If you could design a companion, what would they be?

    BG2

    Dwarf Swashbuckler (Chaotic Neutral)

    Stats

    Str 17
    Dex 17
    Con 18
    Int 12
    Wis 14
    Cha 10

    Weapon Profiency

    Scimitar/Wakizashi/Ninjato ++
    Two-Weapon Stlye ++

    Recruitable in Brynnlaw.
Before/After you rescue Imoen from Spellhold. Would be nice replacement for Yoshimo after his betrayal if you don't want to keep Imoen around.

Why Dwarf? Why not. Dwarves are awesome and I love the idea of "Dwarven Pirate". I've always wanted to see a recruitable pirate in BG2 ever since I first time saw Brynnlaw and heard the music playing in that location.

I think kitted thieves would be good. None of the thieves has a kit and that's s huge waste. A Lawful Good Half Orc Bounty Hunter, a Chaotic Good Elven Shadowdancer and a Lawful Evil Dwarven Assassin would all be great additions. Maybe give them some illegal abilities like 3 dots in crossbow for the Dwarven assassin. Vanilla thieves quickly become subpar but I think some kitted thieves would be great

BG2 is in dire need of a Good/Neutral non dual/multi'd thief, and I would be onboard with any of the previous suggestions as would be my design.

Crazy how none at all really exist, I decided to try out this new Hexxat character in my most recent playthrough - but she obviously isn't geared for good parties and is incompatible with the likes of Mazzy and Keldorn etc.
I still remember way back in the day with the physical edition trying to break the game and use loopholes/exploits just to keep Yoshimo alive, only for ToB to unceremoniously kill him off for good if you still had him.

    Dwarf Bounty Hunter or Fighter/Thief.

Lawful Evil Shadovar Assassin for SoD. Honorable and efficiently ruthless. A servant of some ancient Netherese cabal of assassins. He or she would be all about stealth and finding traps. Racial bonus would help significantly with stealth and potions could cover opening locks and picking pockets. An option for an evil run through to have a thief besides Safana.

(The child of Bhaal is supposed to lead the NPC to his quarry, so the Assassin will want to protect and serve the Main Character until the final battle...)

A Lich. Part of the twisted rune. Has fun undead powers and an awesome quest that may tie into the place in the district that drops a certain staff. He could be a specialist Mage or a super specific sorcerer kit! I think after Hexxat we need more love for undead ppl

A Chaotic Neutral Whisper Gnome Shadowdancer. Her common isn't that good, and she's not too sociable, but her scouting/backstabbing capacity is unparalleled.

After talking about having a board/card game night with some friends I got to talking about Red Dragon Inn which lead to discussion of its characters Zot and his pet/familiar Pooky who has a later expansion that lets you play as Pooky...

And it got me thinking, why not let us play with Boo as his own companion. Hear me out, we for 17 years have though Minsc was crazy and his belief that Boo was a miniaturized space hamster was due to one too many concussions. But what if he isnt crazy and he actually is a giant hamster from space (or another plane). You get a quest with Minsc and Boo in your party some ancient powerful lich (or maybe a custom made dispel on the party to get rid of some sort of personalized curse/gaes/disease is cast and poof the spell making Boo tiny is nulled and with his cover blown Boo starts to speak to everyone else telepathically (thus why Minsc seems to every now and then have one way conversations with Boo). Boo: Giant Space Hamster Psyonicist

Before SoD came out I spent many months playing Temple of Elemental Evil, another old D&D game using edition 3.5. What was really cool in that game is that when you cast domination on someone they are added to your party. The spell has an extremely long duration so you just have to re-cast it once every few days. They gain experience and you can change their equipment like any companion. And it works on any humanoid, lizardmen, bugbear, kobold, etc. It would be awesome to have this also in BG.

A dwarf of some kind would get my vote. Fighter thief or cleric, male or female, doesn't matter. I love dwarves! But I have a hard time making them the bhaalspawn. They just don't "fit" the character to me. As opposed to say IWD and Black Pits where they are my party leaders.

But npc dwarves in BG are my fav.

A Fi/Ma - some kind of male elf, possible romance option to make of for the sad sack options for females

A mute Shadodancer or Kitless Thief,

his stick is that his tounge was cut out and he communicates by handing the PC Letters, in wich he complaints often that people mistake him often for a good listener.

Fighter/Thief, Chaotic Neutral, Gnome or Dwarf.

Basically I want an actually useful thief that I can use with either a good or evil party, because I always end up making my Bhaalspawn a thief whenever I play the game with NPCs, which is one of the reasons I do it so rarely.

I loathe Yoshimo for obvious reasons, Nalia is just a worse Imoen, Jan is okay but I'm usually really stacked on mages since I usually want Aerie for a good run, Edwin for an evil one, and Imoen for both. Hexxat I've no idea what that is supposed to be.

Basically the only option is to run 3 mages, lose out on characters I really want in the party, or not have a thief for the entirety of 2.5 chapters. Or, as I always default to, run a Fighter/Thief Bhaalspawn.

Think you would like the Solaufein mod.

Dwarven Defender/Cleric multi-class. Front line tank with self buff spells and lets you skip both Glint and Viconia, if you so wish.

Here's one I made from all player made party: Fighter subclass: Male Lawful Neutral Dwarven Defender. Dual wielding Axes or Hammers

    Str 18/92
    Dex 17
    Con 19
    Int 10
    Wis 10
    Cha 8

    Guy is just a tank.

    He's got a twin brother that's a Fighter/Thief that ends up getting Dritz's gear from BG1.

My lil brother hates that I have dwarf running around with elf gear. I nformed him that the chain was Dwarf made

the rest of the party is a Dwarf Fighter/Cleric and Elf Ranger an Elf Fighter/Mage and a Human Paladin.

Oh being NPC's can get by Race restricted classes issus (See 1/2 Orc evil pali) A Female dwarven Skald would be hysterical. If Gnomes can be illusionist why not Dwarves as Bard Skalds?

A female librarian fighter. A young woman who has had her nose in books all her life. Obsessed with adventure, heroics and fame. Sadly having spent her life reading books, she is a very very inept fighter. Almost useless in combat, but with an iron will and a combat morale that can rival the most stubborn dwarf.

Josephina Miller. Human Fighter. Lawful good.

    Str 8
    Dex 10
    Con 13
    Int 18
    Wis 12
    Cha 15

Uses a modified greatsword, since the vanilla greatsword is too heavy for her to lift.
Unique ability - Her Lore increases as if she was a Bard.

The BP2 gladiators had some potential, and implementing Voghiln into SoD seemed to work out for all involved, so maybe more of that?

Also, it will never happen, but I'd be very curious to see Beamdog's take on Solaufein. He's technically an original BG2 character, so there wouldn't be a conflict of rights with Westley Weimer (especially since he basically gave his content up to the community a while back anyway). It'd be interesting to see what Amber, Andrew or David would do with that possibility.

Give her the ability to use low level scrolls and I'd take her (can use scrolls of SL 1/4 of her level)

Poor Xanos - he would've gotten a much fairer shake if you weren't forced to choose between him and Deekin in Act 2.

Ar least he got the chance to go adventuring. Poor old Mischa only got to sweep the floor and make sure the door was closed to keep the draught out.

Making sure the draught didn't get in is vitally important though, the PC might have caught a cold, got hypothermia and died, would never have gone on to save Wateedeep, stop the Valsharress, and prevent Mephistopheles from taking over Toril and using it's souls to fuel the blood war. She saved the whole world  .

Though, I guess they could have just divine healed or raised the hero, hmmm, I guess she really didn't do anything. Nevermind poor Mischa indeed.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

    Stoat the Ferret Lord
    Gender: Male
    Race: Ferret
    Class: Fighter/Thief
    Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Abilities: 2 pips in fangs/claws, 2 pips in projectile stink spray
    All thief points in HiS/MS
    Biography:

When asked about his past, Stoat grins and declares that he was once a magician's pet before a violent accident caused a merging of their minds. Stoat recalled how much of a shock it was to discover his new ability to speak in the common tongue, as well as the tragic fate of his former owner, who had become as simple as a... well, as a normal ferret.

He spoke of the many adventures he had embarked upon since then, following a crazed, hammer-wielding berserker and a sorcerer with a bizarre cookie addiction through their many, many trials. Eventually he made his way through a mysterious portal that led him here. You can't help but think that as strange as this sounds, the idea of a talking ferret with a love for backstabs would no doubt be just as strange had you not met this one.

Neverwinter Nights 2's Storm of Zehir expansion was even better in this regard. Meet Grykk Bannersworn, if you have not already.
