the flag is actually really poorly named. it does a lot of nonsense in a lot of different places.
it stops the item: being sold (except in pst) being destroyed via some script actions being removed from containers/floor piles due to time having charges drained via effects being randomly dropped via effects not being added to full inventories being accidentally dropped when closing the inventory with it in hand in weird situations I can't imagine not appearing at the head of the ground pile list being kept by a dismissed party member (except in pst interestingly) being destroyed when a character death destroys their inventory
I guess that's why the code has it named "indestructible", NI has it labeled "unsellable" and there's apparently some source that labels it "plot-critical"
