@InKal: So is Valygar like the main character in Improved Anvil, or what?

He can be. He has a very powerful kit (the Protector) and awesome upgrades. Your protagonist still is much more stronger (if your protag. is a necromancer or vagrant!). Vally is as strong as berserker (or even stronger) and in certain circumstances can even match the riskbreaker.
His special kit Protector grants him situational bosses vs certain enemies. When he uses his special ability to ready himself for golems, skeletons, vampires or liches, he gets great bonuses vs them, and improved anvil has a ridiculous amount of uber-uber powerful forms of these monsters. Yeah when I couldn't kill one Supreme Golem (tm) even with ctrl+y cheat, I knew it was something special. Ofcourse, within the mod's own universe it makes sense and I must admit it is fun to play with the overpowered items (too many to mention) and kits (vagrant, aura master, necromancer, protector, and last but not least, riskbreaker)

Oh. And also you get like -20 reputation if you kill Valygar for his body. I guess the modmaker just really loved that npc and wanted the player to spare him, if not take him into his party.

Back to the topic, I know of several mods that do the thing:

Unfinished Business and Quest Pack mods let you parley with some enemies: The drow spider-lover Pai'Na in Graveyard District can give you a quest. You can raise and forgive Kalah to give him a second chance at life. You can save Sanik from asassination in Brynlaw. Convince General Jamis Tombelthen in the oasis in ToB to not to attack. You can parley with the cowled agent Rayic Gethras to trap Edwin instead. Longer Road even allows you to have you know who in ToB in a redemption-arc. And, most notably, Ascension mod allows you to recruit Baltazar to your side (not to the party) if you have the qualifications.

The revenant in BG. Well, I guess he can't have life but I often give him his dagger and help him get revenge. I mean the poor ol dude got knifed by Mr Bigshot thief and just wants some payback.

Not with the IA mod, no. Buying reputation is very expensive with the mod, and the mod blocks nearly all gold exploits so it is still not easy, not to mention you need tons of gold for the better item upgrades essential to survive the mod's brutal and unforgiving encounters.

There are some gold exploits left and the only costly ones are the lowest steps. I always keep some reputation rewards unused to boink up to 20 when I play good and likewise for when I play evil to not dip in the rep=1 pool all the time. Circus for instance is an easy one.

And no one regrets killing tethyrean general and his army? On my last playthrough with cavalier charname, a just let Aerie cast mass invisibility and slipped out. What else would good charname do?

I never really felt bad about that. How good could someone possibly be if they are willing to kill someone based solely on their family tree?

Yes, but they have wrong info about charname destroying Saradush and all are non evil. In my next play (waiting for the patch, I will play first time with evil party) well... ;)

But when you try to explain the situation, the general just goes, "I don't care". He doesn't care if you are innocent or not, he's just a bloodthirsty as the "monster" he supposedly hunts.

I haven't killed him in years. If you use the Quest Pack mod you can talk him out of it.

No matter the character I'm playing, if they try and kill me first I usually try and kill em right back (seems fair enough).
Childish I know, but I just can't help myself sometimes when no other option exists in the dialogue choices.

Nope, it's a difficult battle and actually provides some challenge with SCS. Even if you can talk him out of it. And the XP, never forget the XP.

Child of Bhaal and don't you forget it Mr "I'm a general and am going to arrest you", ..........in your dreams, in your dreams. :D

Who is this General? I can't remember him.
  • ArtonaArtona Member Posts: 1,077
@Raduziel - he is the dude that appears in the Oasis and accuses you of destruction of Saradush. In vanilla game you have no choice but to kill him and his tethyrian troops. He carries Answerer +4.

Oh, that's why. I think I only played ToB twice in my entire life.

    Thanks :)

I feel bad for his soldiers. I mean...

Specialist Smith: “I hear that we are hunting down a Bhaalspawn?”
Private Johnson: “Yeah. Apparently he’s got five friends and they destroyed Saradush.”
Specialist Smith: “Just six of them? I was there last year! Damn, that city was big.”
Private Johnson: “Good thing we got these spears! Supply says they are magic.”

I mean...they’re following orders. They can’t choose whether or not to fight you, they’re in the army. Even if the general won’t hear you out, I feel bad for killing his men. I usually just invis out of there.

If you are willing to follow unethical orders, I have no sympathy for you.

Aren't these guys all lvl 13? I have absolutely no sympathy for them. Wimps, by the hierarchy of the djungle they should grovel at my feet - instead they show the nerve the to question my motives! The insolence! As if their simple minds could even grasp 1/10th of what I am trying to do and what is at the stake here! After I hunt them down to the very last man, I bathe in their blood and build a pyramid with their decapitated heads. That should teach 'em a lesson, and keep the rest of the lot from getting any other funny ideas!

That'll teach those bigots not to assume that you're some kind of bloodthirsty monster!

@Raduziel Its unethical because a Diviner acknowledges that my charname is not evil and did not destroy Saradush. They want to murder me anyway.
