Just a qoute from Trent Oster in a interview, that i like and really appreciate (Tue, Aug 7, 2012):
“It’s like a giant reunion on our forums, it’s just like everybody who’s anybody is in there,” he said. The team sees the fanbase not just as emotional support, but technical as well. “We’re treating these guys essentially as members of the dev team… the goal going long-term is we stay engaged with these people. When they find problems or they find ideas on how to make the game even better, we continue to work with these guys. These guys know Baldur’s Gate better than anybody on the planet. I think even the original dev team don’t know Baldur’s Gate as thoroughly as some of these guys.”
Dont think that all sees what a hard work and a dedication the guys actually are putting in this..Both the Dev´s and Modder´s out there and all the volunteers. THANK YOU !!!!!!!!
"I think the progression of the kits is going to be inline with the Tutu experience. Early levels, kits don't make a huge difference. "
So not a lot of change I guess... But they are some exceptions ^_^ (spirit animals, fixed werewolf shapeshifter)
A little discussion about rangers/archer crits too. I don't really understand ... The damage shouldn't be so good early level. Maybe it's about a level 8 archers with good items -> That can properly dash 40 damages in a single hit with a crit.
I've been trying to reproduce it, but the best I can manage is:
- Buy a Heavy Crossbow from Winthrop -> +2 damage - Use 4 points in Crossbow (this probably won't be possible in BGEE) while having the BG1 weapon proficiency system -> +4 damage - Archer bonus -> +1 damage
That basically changes a 1-8 bolt to a 8-15 bolt. Unless I'm missing a damage modifier from somewhere.
@Tanthalas The only thing I can think of is that arrows and bolts would have a crit multiplier of x3 instead of x2. However a quick google search didn't give me an answer to that.
Composite Longbow +2 4 Points in Bows (Which you said is +4) Archer bonus +1
arrow base damage is 1-6.
6-13 for an arrow. x2 multiplier on crit gives us 26 (30 for heavy crossbow), 39 (45 for crossbow).
So if they're a x3 multiplier and the dice fall in your favor then its easily possible.
@Space_hamster ranged weapons in general were so much more powerful in BG than they were in BG2. Until you got to werewolf island and then you just kinda cried =/
@Tanthalas ya I didn't actually go into game to check since well 800x600 makes me cry atm >< I think you're right though in that its only double damage. I think all crits were double damage in BG and BG2. I haven't looked into the 3E or 4E multipliers were people might end up getting confused if things had changed. I seem to remember 3e is when all the multipliers started changing and I think arrows were one of the things changed (to x3).
Well then I guess we can claim that its possible to almost get 40 but unlikely. Also just to make sure, even if they use a composite longbow (which claims to give you additional damage based upon your strength in its description although not in its abilities), you couldn't get the extra possible +3 from 18/00 right?
Edit: A quick check of a gamefaqs forum post on the issue confirmed that its built into the bow already (with its additional +2 damage) rather than giving you additional damage based upon strength.
The thing is, the guy was also claiming that he had 3 attacks per round at level 1, and I don't believe that one is possible with starting gear. A cross bow is also limited to only 3/2 attacks per round at level 1. I think Long Bows can actually attack 5/2 times per round at level 1.
I thought Crossbow was only 1 attack/round at lvl 1 and a bow was 2 attacks/round. I thought 3/2, 5/2 didn't occur until lvl 3 and 2/3 didn't occur until lvl 6.
By the way I love all the D&D theory (and actual) crafting we've done in this thread today. such an amazing knowledge base.
Ah knew I had to be forgetting something cause my numbers were off. I still don't think you can hit 3 attacks/round until lvl 6 though. Still thanks for yet another knowledge bomb. Best explosions in the world (after those produced by Mythbusters and the Fireball spell).

Think were gonna se something big.. I can feel it..
......The tab key is one of those things that when you learn about it, you hate everyone for not telling you sooner.
......Each platform is treated separately in our contract and is through a different store, we're unable to make an all-in-one. So we priced low

...but if anything goes wrong it's all @PhillipDaigle's fault.

That criticals that I got while testing were only giving me double damage.
So a 1-6 arrow would turn into a 12-17 arrow and a 1-8 bolt would change into a 12-19 bolt.

You can get the extra half attack through weapon proficiencies.
