My favorite class is actually a fighter/cleric multi or dual but mostly because of what the cleric brings to the table. I'm also a huge fan of the FR setting and by extension all of the deities present there so cleric really speaks to me.

Mage and Sorcerers are finesse characters
My current CHARNAME is A Gnome Thief illiuionist named Swen Swnsen

    Paladin Inquizator based on Keldorn
    Thief Swashbulkler based on Safana
Druid set up for BG2 Jaheira romance
    Cleric priest of Talos
    Bard Blade or maybe Skald

I love playing a fighter (kensai). I like the idea of a one-on-duel and kill before get hit thing the kensais are all about.Sometimes I go pure kensai lawful neutral (order above all else, even good and evil).Elf,kensai, long swords and katanas allright.I also love micromanaging my fights. In some cases i would play human to dual to thief or mage but pure is the way i usually go.

No. I don't play Bards because I'm never happy with the stats I roll with a bard.

Jester or Diresinger from the bard kits, sharing the honor of "favorite" with thief, either fighter dual or assassin kit. I also like cleric/fighter and Blackguard, but generally prefer the rogue/utility classes for roleplay.

I like thief-mage combos. I like the self-sufficiency and having all of the tricks up my sleeve.

I think there are a lot of synergies between Arcane casters and sneak types. My 'Mages' in other similar games always end up with some sneak capabilities that allow them to get in and strike by surprise. There is nothing more satisfying than 'hey, You!' ZZZZAAPPPPPP!!!!! 'Crispy.'

but also the fact that wizards need to be very tactical about their applications of magic (usually limited use) makes them ripe for wanting some extra skills to keep them occupied when they aren't casting spells. At least all of my casters do.

Nah, don't be. I rarely play as Bards myself. But hey, try it out some time! While the class isn't my cup of tea, it can be quite fun to play as one! :)

Mage is by large the most versatile class. It can simply do everything the others specialise in. That's why I favor it.

I agree, that a mage can use Tenser's transformation to become a fighter for a short while. Provided he survives lomg enough to learn that spell. And maybe use Knock to open locks. But you can't pick pockets. You can't find and disable traps. You can't backstab. A fighter will be always better at fighting anyway. And all in all, you can't heal and mage's buffing isn't what cleric's spells can pull off.

@Southpaw You're right about this but when I said the Mage could do everything I rather meant: to attack, defend, disable and buff which are essential skills. You don't need to pick pockets to finish the game. And avoiding damage is better than healing it which Mages can do way better than Priests.

Yeah, well, mages and thieves are both important members of any a party. That's just the thing: most, if not all, classes have their uses and are needed for one's party to function well.

    Multi-class!
In particular, I like cleric/fighter/mage. Chump-bait early on, to be sure, but soo much fun. :D

No, it's a feature of your cursed helmet. Especially dangerous if you are married and your wife frequently asks questions like "Does this dress make my ass look big?" or "Darling, what do you think of my new hat?" ;-)

I see. I come to think this "curse" isn't so bad for a paladin of Helm like myself. I'm oath bound to speak the truth anyway.

"Darling, does this Studded Leather+2 make me look fat?"
"Honey, do you think they have the Belt of avoidance in Carmen Red color?"
"I don't know what they put into those healing potions, but I seem to be gaining weight when chugging them, don't you think?"

A squirrel. 'Twas the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent amongst the offspring of Bhaal!

Mages, exlcuding the Sorcerors. Because mage is the first class I've beat BG with (and the most interesting to play with all the spell combinations, specializations which are directing your general playstyle etc.) and because I consider Sorcerors as a "lazy" version of mages that are rellying on natural talent and furthermore achieving greater results. I dislike this kind of things. I just do.

    @God, you're a member of the Baldur's Gate forum? And you're a squirrel?!

No. I am merely a humble deity.
The rodent I referred to was one of the characters I created. Well, more precisely, Bhaal created it. It's best not to wonder how. It was a squirrel. And, mind you, a bloodthirsty one. It also pursued a thriving romance with Boo, which probably indicates it was a she. Though you never know with today's squirrels.
