Do I need to? Don't I get it for free?

Yeah I think I will actually.

I may or may not, because I don't know if I'll have time to play it right when it comes out, and this time around there doesn't seem to be any real incentive to paying for it early.

After my experiences with pre-ordering BG:EE.... No.

    Only when (if) released.

I'm most likely going to pre-order. Though regardless of game I never buy them more then a week before release, it's way too common with delays etc.

No, I am not a fan of the bugs that come with being an early adopter, I will wait until it is properly debugged to buy it.
I do not begrudge beamdog or think they are untrustworthy, there is no "fooling" involved. People want their game fast, the companies provide what people want by releasing early yet still buggy games... I just wish more companies were more honest about it and actually called it a beta instead of final.

My Beamdog library is look rather ... 'singular' in appearance.

I pre-ordered one or two additional copies, too.

No, but I don't see the point in pre-ordering in general. What exactly is the appeal of paying for a product that you won't get for another couple of months? Especially as this is only available via download anyways, you can pay for it when it actually comes out and play it immediately. Pre-ordering is of course the norm for limited quantity products such as concert tickets, but unless they give you some kind of incentive, pre-ordering a downloadable game seems pointless.

The only time I pre-ordered anything was the last Song of Ice and Fire book because that meant that I'd get it at the day of release instead of having to wait for it to ship.

    No, for several reasons:

    1. I don't have any faith that Beamdog will actually make the release date with a playable version of the game, given the way they've handled updating BG:EE.

    2. It's a digital release, so they're not running out of copies.

    3. The devs are apparently still discussing whether "Ascension" should be included in the game in some form; I'd like to know their decision before committing either way.

I pre-ordered within the first couple of hours it was available to do so... I definitely support beamdog big time on this! If I had more friends who were into the game, I'd order for them too... I'll definitely get it for android just as soon as it releases (BGEE and BG2EE)

No, waiting for the Android version (of both EE's).

Satisfied enough with BGEE (and lacking a digital copy of BG2 anyway) that I'll pay Beamdog the extra.

BG: EE and BG2: EE in humble bundle; dmr free copy, steam keys, ost, like -100 pesos. That would be nice.
