Tsujatha mod removed from download for now. EE doesn't like special symbols not being encoded, which is why the game freezes after he joins. His journal entry uses a word with a special symbol in it.

Can someone please explain what chitin.key is and where it is located?

@mysticexarch

It's just a binary file containing a list of game resources. It is required for the game to work (with and without mods).

What makes this file relevant is that it is always present in the main directory of every Infinity Engine game (and even a few non Infinity Engine ones) on every OS.

Unlike other game files, it has never been renamed to something else (unlike baldur.exe for instance) and it has never been moved somewhere else (unlike dialog.tlk for instance). So it represents the more reliable way of find out which folder is the main one, i.e. the folder where mods need to be installed.

Doesn't matter if you have the Beamdog version, or the Steam one, or the Mac one, or the GOG one, or if it isn't BG at all, but Planescape Torment for instance, in all this situations the mods have to be installed in the folder where chitin.key is.
Some examples of location where chitin.key is on my laptop (in your case the actual path may be different):

1) C:\Program Files (x86)\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766
2) C:\GOG Games\BG1Tutu
3) C:\GOG Games\Planescape Torment
Also, by uncompressed do you mean unzipped?

Yes.

There is no C:\Program Files (x86)\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766 on my machine, or any of those other directories.

The closest I have is C:\Program Files (x86)\BG2 - SoA and there is no "data" with a "00766" inside of it. BG2 - SoA is, in fact, a completely empty folder.

I have the steam version, by the way.

LiamEsler, please split NPC mods into their own section, perhaps just separated by a few blank lines. They are kind of taking a lot of room. :)

@Sivar
There is a google docs spreadsheet list here in the below link that you can use with categories.
But if you are gonna use the list filters and such download yourself a copy as en excel file and do whatever you want.

This looks like what is left of the uninstalled original game.

I have the steam version, by the way.

If you have the Steam version you should search somewhere in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common

just keep opening folders until you find the file chitin.key

Alternatively you can get the path from the Steam Client, like in the picture below (it shows another game as I don't have BG2EE on Steam, but it would be the same)
image
or by just doing a file search.

The "browse local files" option worked like a charm. I found the chitin key and should be able to install the mods shortly. Thanks for your help.

It is strange my PC didn't find chitin.key when I searched for it, though. (Yes, the game was installed.) But, whatever.

Update: I shouldn't have jumped the gun. I put the files (they were unzipped) in the directory with chitin.key. The setup still gave me the "not a valid game folder" error message. This is truly bizarre. The funny thing is, all the mods I want are working just fine. It's just I Shall Never Forget and Tales of the Deep Gardens that give me the error message.

I don't see IWDification on the list.
@CamDawg is it compatible with BG2:EE?

I believe it should be--I actually did a lot of development on the EE betas.
Can you check if the Sunscorch spell works properly? I'm playing vanilla BG2 with SCS, BG2tweaks and some quest mods. The spell just forces the target to save or blinds them. It doesn't play the spell effect or apply any damage. Strangely, when I cast it at someone who resists it due to magic resistance, it plays the spell effect.
@Camdawg can you also check the Produce Fire spell, it seems to be bugged, it doesn't apply it's damage to sleeping trolls. It doesn't even generate a message saying that they're immune.

Hey folks, new user to the forums, and modding BG in general.
installed a few mods; bg2tweak / scs and atweaks, along with UB first) and after reading the forum here added IDWificaton at the end, now i am unfortunately crashing out whenever i run into a high level mage, mage casts something and game window's out.

is there a way to edit my install order without going through the uninstall/ clean install routine? secondary bug ive noticed is that spell thrust, breech etc are no longer giving defenses removed notification.

much obliged for your time

edit, secondary question.. where in the load order should IWDification go?

Okay, folks, I'm sure this is a knucklehead question, but...trying to add some mods (dearnise and flirt pack to start and get my feet wet), and it doesn't seem to follow the expected protocol. Once I click on the application (for both of them), it says:
"Please run this program in your Infinity Engine game directory
FATAL ERROR: Failure("not a game directory")"

Says it for both. I've played with mods numerous times pre BG2EE. The FAQs said I should get automatically prompted selections (that I didn't get), so I put it in my Program Files (x86)>Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition folder. I didn't see other options.

I'm sure I'm missing something basic, but any help out there? And thanks!

You need to drill down a little deeper until you find the folder that has a file called 'chitin.key' in it. For me, it's in Program Files (x86)>Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition>Data>00783.

Perfect! Saw that above, but thought it was just for that mod. Worked out perfectly. Thanks!

As far as I know, the majority of mods work that way. There are a few that will ask you for an installation directory (SCS comes to mind), but most of them will assume the setup file is in your install directory and just error out if that isn't the case (eg it doesn't see the chitin.key in the same folder).

Any ideas on what's wrong with Kindrek and his voice acting ? He has no voice, and the portrait always appears too small.

Bumping my post a little, is there anyone who has had this issue with kindrek ? Any tips would be appreciated on whats wrong with his portrait and the missing voice, even though the audio files are in the folders.

Install in the resource folder. Also if you don't have it, get the BG mac installer and the newest version of weidu in that folder too. I don't have that mod, but I have a couple others on it.

image

Thank you for replying my message. I still can't install any mod in my mac.
I already put everything in my resources folder (though my resource folder has a different path compared to yours, I wonder why), and chmod 777 for the resource folder. But when I execute .command file, I get weird message like this:

XXXmatoMacBook-Pro:~ XXX$ /Applications/BaldursGateIIEnhancedEdition.app/Contents/Resources/setup-stratagems.command ; exit;
/Applications/BaldursGateIIEnhancedEdition.app/Contents/Resources/setup-stratagems.command: line 2: cd: /Applications/BaldursGateIIEnhancedEdition.app/Contents/: No such file or directory
/Applications/BaldursGateIIEnhancedEdition.app/Contents/Resources/setup-stratagems.command: line 3: ./setup-stratagems: No such file or directory
logout

[Process completed]
Does it mean the access to BG2 folder is generally denied,? Everything is right there but it still says no such file or directory, >_<, what can I do to solve this problem?

@CoM_Solaufein Does that mean that Tsujatha is out of the picture , or can it still be made compatible to EE?

anybody going to make tactics mod compatible? or is it already out?
Another difficulty mod I found:
'Improved Anvil'

@shadow85 I agree Tactics was epic. I remember using it and scs and I literally couldn't beat the final Irenicus fight with it maxed out. Had to uninstall it. Might have to try again if its compatible soon
• shadow85shadow85 Member Posts: 128
yeah a couple of weeks before the first BGEE was released last year, I was playing BG2 with SCS and tactics, maybe even improved anvil and I remember the difficulty with those mods being incredibly punishing. I was very limited on what I could do or where I could go in the early stages of the game. Made it a whole lot more interesting experience for me.

Really hoping that tactics and or Improved Anvil will become compatible with BG2EE, as I am not going to play through until they are.
• FlamedanceFlamedance Member Posts: 12
@shadow85

Improved Anvil is definitely NOT compatible with BGEE (and probably will never be). Neither is it compatible with SCS and/or Tactics. Also, it's a far more difficult mod than either Tactics or SCS. In it's own way IA is a great mod, but only for those who feel SCS on insane difficulty is far too easy.

@shadow85 and @Flamedance that is NOT COOL. I had never heard of IA and now I just went tunneling down a rabbit hole that landed me at the world's longest thread over at G3. So now I lost several hours of my life, AND I'm out of popcorn. >:(

god.... I really want to install Dungeon-Be-Gone. I'm going insane with the freaking Irenicus Dungeon.

My problem: installed like a billion mods after it on the list (Wheels of Prophecy, Kelsey, Faren, Romantic Encounters, Haer-Dalis Romance, BG2 Tweak Pack (parts), Rogue Rebalancing and aTweaks (parts)

If I install it now will my computer blow up and kill me or will I survive with just a scar or two?

Considering that you are still in Irenicus Dungeon, I would suggest reverting to a clean install, reinstall all the mods in the proper order and start a new game.

Hey folks,
does anyone know about a working npc mod who brings 'Yeslick
to bg2 ee?
• TeraAkronTeraAkron Member Posts: 10
Quick question to the mod experts here ...can I play a full play through of SoA *now* and use the final save game to import into ToB when Ascension is released?

In other words, can you import a non-Ascension SoA save into an Ascension-modded ToB?

Thanks
• shawneshawne Member Posts: 3,239
Not a mod expert, but yes, this can be done - though if you do that, make sure at least one of your characters is carrying the Sword of Chaos from Irenicus' dungeon...
• FlamedanceFlamedance Member Posts: 12
edited December 2013
@TeraAkron

Yes, you can. Ascension only changes the ToB part of the game (apart from a few minor fixes) and doesn't affect your character. You might want to delay killing Demogorgon till you've installed Ascension. Ascension Demogorgon is a lot tougher (and more interesting) than vanilla Demogorgon.

I'm so happy that BG2 has been adapted to modern OS. Thank you very much for this list of working mods. I appreciate everyone involved who has updated these mods for the Enhanced Edition. I hope this work continues. Besides Ascension (which is being worked on), I am particularly interested in Zyraen's Miscellaneous Mods. It seems that this mods item nerfs still works, but that the staged XP limiter does not. I hope you can add Zyraen's to the list of mods working with EE soon!

Thanks @erg ! Unfortunately I started like four games to check out characters, but Irenicus's dungeon is driving me crazy. I have killed poor Ilyich like a hundred times in my life now, lol. I'd re-install except that I have two other games I want to finish first.

Well at the moment I am using the latest tactics and scs mods together. Everything seems to be running ok for now, mind you im not very far, just came out of the hell hole at the start.

Challenge has been increased a fair bit, and I am using my character from the end of bg1ee which is a level 10 mage. So my companions in bg2ee are joining as level 10.
