And this makes Monty the only NPC I voted for in two polls. Well deserved, since I consider him one of the best NPCs in the games and that says a lot for a BG1 character.
Imoen: First NPC, huge plot point, bff forever, can be dualed to a mage whenever you want Monty: No evil party is complete without him Yoshimo: He is in 95% of my playthroughs because of his plot point and everyone's reaction to it. Safana: If no Imoen, she is the next thief I go for. Her personality is a bit put offish though. Skie: Too late in the game to have consideration sadly, however has great plot points. Alora: Super fun sunshine addition with a lucky rabbits foot. Sold. Coran: Sly, masterful, the best fighting thief in BG1 Tiax: It's Tiax. Come on. Jan Jansen: Banterful, amazing starting gear and a spell slinger. . . come Nalia: More mage than thief.
Can't choose. So it goes to my familiar cat or ferret.
Jan. But only because he is the only thief able to progress in this class' abilities (yoshimo dies). Otherwise, Yoshi, IF you could keep him with you, that is. Damn.
Good old Imoen has disarmed more traps, picked more locked and pickpocketed more goods than other thief in whole saga Plus I prefer mage-thieves to pure thieves.
Imoen will always be my favorite. I wish they had kept her a pure Thief in BG2. Although I have sometimes enjoyed playing her as a Bard as well in the past via a mod (L1 NPCS and BGT, I think it was). I don't particularly enjoy using her as a Mage/Thief.
I'm a fan of Yoshimo as well.
I have recently come to appreciate Coran more than I used to, although his overall Thieving skills leave a bit to be desired.
It seems I finally have a chance to participate in these polls. I've started with my favourite class that is a thief.
HIIII-YA! *chuckles* The turists love that stuff! *and I absolutely love that stuff too.
Yoshimo's personality is interesting and full, his story is well-written, he has good interactions with many NPCs, his voice lines are amusing, he comes with his own katana... What else can we want?
He brings some charm of Kara-Tur into BG, his plot twist is one of the most unbelievable story turns in games.
And he's an excellent thief. His traps give an alternative strategy to difficult fights, he can have enough thieving skills to cover all areas, he even can be dualled into a fighter.
@bengoshi I'm a big Yoshimo fan as well, to the extent that back in the day I even co-authored a (beware: following linked page contains a spoiler) mod (I wrote the story and dialogue, the other fellow coded) that...
... allows you to keep Yoshi all the way to the end. That was for SoA/ToB and BGT however; it's not coded for EE (I'm not a coder and the thing is sort of in limbo with respect to EE conversion until someone with coding skills adopts it). For my money it was a total blast to keep Yoshimo in the party to the conclusion of ToB. He became really powerful, by the way.
I had to give this one to Jan since I let Monty take the best shorty title from him. They're both hilarious multi-classed short thieves, what's not to love?
Coran the freewheeling, swashbuckling hedonist shows that adventuring can actually be good fun if you want it to. Definitely the kind of fellow I like to have around on my adventures (even though I almost always play some sort of thief single or multi myself). Imoen understands the idea as well, but she lacks Coran's flair.

o.0 ...why didn't I think of that? LOVE it! I can see him round house kicking a trap to disarm it, lol
He broke my damn heart. I'll never forget it, but I do forgive him.
YOSHIMO is my favorite of the thieves--I still wish for a good Yoshimo redemption mod :-(
