@anyone disliking the new UI size: there is a simple setting in graphics to disable the scaling and put it back to your native resolution.
Yeah, but that actually makes it BIGGER! And the game's default settings are unscaled GUI btw. The bad thing is the big font, I saw the old small font perfectly, but this one is too big!

Really. On my fresh install, minus an edit to make fps 45, default had that toggled on with everything "scaled" to try to fit my screen. I agreed that everything was too big. I untoggled that then everything was comfortably tiny and back to normal bgee text size. 1920x1080 resolution. *shrugs* Maybe I'm misremembering and I tweaked something during the 1.2 beta. But I liked the UI minus a minor graphics oversight on Max size text box and the scaling turned off. Anyway. Cheers and good luck. I'm enjoying it so far.
It's subjective. I play on a typical-sized 1920×1080 screen and the unscaled text size in the previous version was just fine for me. I'd definitely like a setting for switching the combat log back to the previous size.
All great changes except for the gigantic text box. One of the biggest enhancements for me was how Baldur's Gate became much more pleasant and easier to read. This new UI change is a huge step back in that regard.
Long lines are one of the worst things you can do for readability.
(That inflammatory statement isn't very constructive on its own, so here's some links that hopefully do a better job explaining it than I ever could.)
To quote a passage from “Web Style Guide – Basic design principles for creating web sites”.
The ideal line length for text layout is based on the physiology of the human eye… At normal reading distance the arc of the visual field is only a few inches – about the width of a well-designed column of text, or about 12 words per line. Research shows that reading slows and retention rates fall as line length begins to exceed the ideal width, because the reader then needs to use the muscles of the eye and neck to track from the end of one line to the beginning of the next line. If the eye must traverse great distances on the page, the reader is easily lost and must hunt for the beginning of the next line. Quantitative studies show that moderate line lengths significantly increase the legibility of text.
Web Style Guide – Basic Design Principles for Creating Website Patrick J. Lynch and Sarah Horton 2nd edition, page 97.
Column width affects readability because of the way our eyes read. Many people don’t realize that our eyes do not read character by character or even word by word. Rather, our eyes scan a line, pausing momentarily to record groups of three or four words. Studies have found that a reader can make three or four such pauses on a line before it becomes tiring.
... Additionally, a reader can easily get lost when going from the end of one long line to the beginning of the next, and may inadvertently reread the same line, or miss a line or two.
Too long – if a line of text is too long the visitor’s eye will have a hard time focusing on the text. This is because the length makes it difficult to get an idea of where the line starts and ends. Furthermore it can be difficult to continue from the correct line in large blocks of text.
... It turns out that the subconscious mind is energized when jumping to the next line (as long as it doesn’t happen too frequently, see above bullet point). At the beginning of every new line the reader is focused, but this focus gradually wears off over the duration of the line (“Typographie”, E. Ruder).
In order to avoid the drawbacks of too long and too short lines, but still energize your readers and keep them engaged, we suggest keeping it within the range of 50-75 characters per line.
I've never seen an article suggesting longer line lengths (to be fair, I also haven't looked very hard for one either!). I really hope you all rethink this idea, or at least give the player the option to resize back to the original BG:EE text box.
To end on a positive note: OTHERWISE - EVERYTHING ELSE LOOKS GREAT! And I really hope to see the quickloot feature soon!
If the v2 will be compatible with the v3... For keeping the actual size of the dialogue window, put this file in the override directory : http://paf.im/Tay8Z (click on "vitesse normal", it's free).

While I am grateful for new features (thought the one with the soundsets shouldn't really be considered now) and the bugfixes the patch will bring, I am still sad because the state of dubs for original BG content hasn't changed a bit.
Good thing adding the cursor scale when zooming in. Could we add that camera lock option soon, please? Cursor scaling would go good with the camera lock.
7534: Increased Font Size and Wider Dialogue Window
The combat log window has been widened and the text size has been increased for better readability. Check it out:
NOOOoooooo!!! What's this? Is there a way I can mod it to a previous state? I really dislike this!
Yeah, please don't do this. The smaller dialogue window was the best thing about playing BG(2)EE as opposed to vanilla BG2 with the widescreen mod. A wider window does not increase readability, quite the opposite.
I greatly appreciate some movement on the patching side in spite of android focus and have been a vocal proponent of that. What's the status of BG2E though? 1 already got a big patch and I consider 2 much more buggy and in need of one - plus the platforms are not in sync.
I assume it's for 1 due to the parallel work in droid?
@Troodon80 The font size is not a problem... (extract all files of the GUIFont.bif v2 in the override folder v3), but keep the current window size is a little bit more complicated (chu/pvrz).
@Kerozevok, complicated, certainly, but it's not a matter of "they can't." Whether they decide to or not based on the amount of effort required, that's a different thing. :-)

So make the window size and the font size separately configurable.
Anyway, for me personally none of the benefits of the patch outweigh the downside of the increased log window and font sizes. In it's current state I won't be moving to 1.3, but will stick with 1.2.
One of the features from Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition is the ease of using custom sound sets without having to edit a 2da file. This feature has been backported to Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, so if you want to use a custom sound set just drop the files into your sounds folder.
Great news!
While on the subject: any chance that this patch will allow us to toggle whether (N)PC voices get cut off when other sounds start playing? I don't think I've ever heard any of my characters finish their battle cries and it's bugging me a lot more than it should, probably because it completely ruins my immersion.
@elminster, it's because of the buttons, I think. If you were to assume that the buttons were part of a bounding box which also contained the text log, then the whole thing is actually centred. It was the same in previous versions, it's just more prevalent now because it is wider.
Edit: I assume that's what you are referring to. Otherwise, I'm not sure what it is that is being referred to.
I was just about to start a new playthrough as a swashbuckler... The CLSWPBON fix makes me want to wait for the patch before starting Flynn's playthrough. It'll give me time to work on a Combat Frying Pan +1 mod... ;-)
On a related note - I missed signing up for the 1.2 betas (too busy) - are signups still open?

As I understand it you should be able to just message @Dee provided you give him your Beamdog Username and OS. Beta' access should be open for any owner of BGEE on beamdog.
I do want bigger fonts. Not all of us have 20/20 vision.
I know I'm just repeating what quite a few people have said already, but I'm not against a larger text size (though I do think the text size is getting to be a bit too large based on the screenshot provided; to each his/her own), but a long line length is what I'm against.
Think of it this way: when you print out a document to read, do you print it on paper in a portrait or landscape orientation? Which of those is easier to read, regardless of text size?
Hopefully the team makes it a user option to decide how long you want the text box. I'm sure that's easier said than done, but clearly the art assets are there for both box sizes, so hopefully that's something that can be added (much like UI scaling was added after release as a user option).

I think these things are related, if they make the font larger without making the box larger then some lists of conversation options will not fit in the box all at once. I would rather have a larger box so I can see all options at once then have to scroll to see all the options.
