I'm thinking of playing a bard/blade for the first time.

Always played as a mage, fighter/mage (dual) or fighter/cleric (dual), and want to try something new.

Possible party would include Edwin, Viconia (never picked her up in BG1), and the three new chars

Dude, a cleric/mage in BG will not be chesse, will be hardcore, remember that you start the game lvl 1 in BG, and divide xp between 2 classes... but it's your call.

Thief (or a subclass of) human female.

It was my go to class/set-up when I first got into the games and has remained my favourite since :) Ain't no unlocked chest in the entire coast.

Chaotic Good Mage, I am not sure what party members I will take along on my adventures.

    Chaotic good Elven swashbuckler

I'm thinking that depending on how the paperdoll models work out, I'll be a Half-Elf. Would like to be human, but I have a small grudge against the fact that all human mages have to look fairly middle-aged and wizened. I think that is still to be the case with BG:EE, due to lost artwork, and so I'll assume to be playing a Half-Elf.

    Gender: Male
    Race: Half-Elf
    Class: Sorcerer
    Alignment: Chaotic Good

I will be a LE monk, I really enjoyed the monk in BG2, and now I can start from lvl 1, and it seems quite hard, just like it should be!
I will belong to the Order of the Long Death just like Grimgnaw!

I like giving CHARNAME another class each time I play, and I mostly like playing arcane casters. I've finished the game with Conjurer, Fighter/Mage, Blade, Cleric/Ranger, Cleric/Illusionist, Barbarian (*) (an exception to the rule). I'm running out of caster classes (don't like a priest as CHARNAME, too religious), so now it'll be a warrior, a Cavalier to be exact.

Big plus of a Cavalier: he'll be able to be good party-leader, a natural class for 18+ STR, high CHA. It gives me the ability to listen to someone else than Ajantis in this game when I select the whole party. As well as being a good pack-horse for a good-aligned party without a ranger.

(*) edit: I wrote 'Stalker' first, but checking my old notes, I found out that was an uncompleted game as the install got f*(#ed up when I tried to de-install one of the SCS-components (that's also an exception, usually de-installing a tweak is succesful).

SK? Or is there a mod compatible with BGEE that allows you to do that?

    Half-elf - Fighter/Mage - Lawful Neutral

Will pick up Ajantis, Coran, Xan, Branwen and Rasaad for my party.

I'm going to try a half Orc swashbuckler, never even played the class or kit before or race (obviously), might be weak in BG:EE but in BG2:EE i think he will be the bees-knees :)

CG or LG male (race?) cleric of Lathander, dating Neera / Rasaad (whichever is good aligned), good party

NN male human conjurator, dating Viconia (converting her to NN), neutral party

CE female half-orc assassin, dating Dorn, evil party (yay!)

Btw... what should my cleric's race be? Stats/build-wise or otherwise... any suggestions?
Oh, and does anybody know/have a good custom portrait I could use?

Am I the only person who is gonna play druid?

I think I am. Totally plan on being an Avenger. And for the record, half elf. I refuse to play Human unless I'm meta-gaming with some sort of dual-class thing.

@sandmanCCL There was one Shapeshifter at the very beginning of the thread. Still not popular.

I'll be a female Neutral Half-Orc Cleric of Helm, just what my random dice-rolling decided for me.

Still, I'd like her to be somewhat able in close combat, so I'd love to have her as Fighter/Cleric or 'keeper it and dual-class her from Fighter to Cleric. However, multiclass levels so slowly and I'd miss out on the Helm kit, and cheating is stupid. I could just have her as a pure Cleric and make her "special" by allowing myself to use Keeper and give her further weapon pips after the first one (while keeping the sum of her pips constant, so no extra proficiencies), like Coran, but yeah. Cheating.

So what am I gonna do, anyone help me? :/

I changed my mind about being a sorcerer after it was confirmed that there would be a set of Elven-chain in the game. :) Now I'm gonna be a Blade.
  • GemHoundGemHound Member Posts: 801
My first character in 1998 was a Dwarven Fighter/Cleric.

Half Elves are my favorite though, and I won't be a Blackguard because it would mean not getting Dorn.

Anyways, blackguards were needed very much so since there were so many specialists that are Lawful Good, none I know of that require your character to be evil.

@The_New_Romance: I applaud whomever said Shapeshifter. That's pretty ballsy considering Shapeshifters are kind of gimp. To the best of my knowledge, we haven't had confirmation from Overhaul about reworking Shapeshifters to proper AD&D values because immunity to normal weapons would be seriously broken.

About your orc connundrum, just be a raw cleric of Helm! You'll be plenty capable in close combat. Seeking Sword would be freakin' baller in the hands of a half-orc for the duration of BG1.

It was Elminster himself. I guess he just can't get over his fudging habit ;) Thanks for the Orc answer. I just checked the progression tables, and Clerics are indeed okay with regard to THAC0. Guess I'll just not cheat and play the game as intended (and probably still rule, although I'd like to avoid powergaming stats especially in the physical department).

My plan right now is to go as a female skald. I had been into sorcerers, wizards, clerics, and cleric-mages for a long, long time, but the thread we had about bards has reinspired me to be faithful to that class, because it resonates the best with my own real-life profession and disposition.

(I am a musician and music teacher, I have studied philosophy and theology extensively, and I am interested in science, which, especially in the fields of chemistry, physics, astronomy, and cosmology, is very like real life "magic". Plus, I have always had a terrible time limiting my professional studies to one thing. I am a generalist to the core, and I am a superlative expert at nothing. So I guess I really am a bard. I just get jealous sometimes of all the wizards and clerics who have so much more upper-level potential than I do. I need to learn to take pride in my flexibility.)

BTW, has it occured to anyone else, as it did to me just now, that BG:EE is being released with almost perfect timing to use it to celebrate Halloween? I will almost surely be "trick-or-treating" in Faerun this year, for sure!

I'm going to try out a Human Fighter ( Wizard Slayer, likely ), Dual Classed to Thief at lvl 3 ( For grand mastery in short sword ). Alignment will be some type of evil, as I'll be playing multiplayer with an evil party. I want to pick up Dorn and Edwin this time around.

I...hate to break it to you, dude, but I don't think you can put all four points into short sword at level 1. I'm so sorry.

My mind changes each day. Cant deside too hard but all my ideas are in elf/half-elf thief/bard with or without kits builds like they allmost allways are for me.

If you meta-game in the slightest, there is no reason to be anything other than an elven sorcerer. The only thing special about humans is the ability to dual-class, which you cannot do with sorcerers. Half-elves get some mild bonuses, but anything they get, Elves can do better + extra dexterity. The hit to constitution doesn't matter because constitution over 16 doesn't benefit non-warrior classes.

But if you want to RP, have fun!

I wish I could roll a Gnome sorcerer personally. That'd be way too fun.

Half-elven Fighter-Mage (my original BG character and forum namesake) who in this game will cast spells like Color Spray (neat spell effect visually; great fun as long as you keep your comrades just behind you) and Ghoul Touch (paralyze up close and personal) and dual wields.

Goal: I want to try to get the most out of a mage who melees. I'll still use a lot of other standard spells as well, of course. The first time I played BG I used a F-M, but didn't use him well. So this time I'll try to apply all my knowledge and skills to the hilt. (Too bad I won't be able to use Tensers.)

The downside is having to wear light armor, IIRC. I haven't played the game in a long time, but I'm recalling that a F-M can't cast in anything heavier than studded leather, right? I've read on these forums, though, that per the devs in BG:EE elven chain mail will be available other than by killing Drizzt (which my character would not do). A half-elf can wear that, hopefully.
  • sandmanCCLsandmanCCL Member Posts: 1,389
You can't cast in even studded leather. If you're wearing any armor, you cannot cast. Unless it's elven chain. Drizzt's armor does not count as Elven Chain, btw.

You're limited to bracers of AC or the Robes of the Archmagi to lower your AC as far as equipment goes. However, Armor is your friend. Level 1 spell, lasts 9 hours, effectively makes your guy have the equivalent AC of a dude wearing regular chain-mail.

Also, why be half-elf when you can be full elf?

    @sandmanCCL

I made him a half-elf mostly for the character concept. For that very first game I wasn't sure how much of a factor human vs. elf vs. half-elf would be in the roleplaying. Lol, I even had a backstory for him in my mind just in case. I had also just purchased the AD&D 2nd ed. FRCS and read up a bit on the races. Half-elf resonated best for the type of character I wanted to play.

It's fine with me if characters have some limitations, actually. I enjoy the challenge of getting the most out of any NPC or class, warts and all.

On this run I want to have fun playing this character build to the max, since I really didn't in that first game. Not knowing any better, I created a custom party of six, lol. The other characters I created actually shone a bit brighter than the PC. I ended up having to use him more as a meleer in armor, or shooting a bow and using wands.

The character was CG when I made him the first time, but I think this time around he'll be TN. I plan on adding Dorn, Neera, and Rasaad. So with that mixture of alignments in the party perhaps TN will be a little more fitting.

Highly depends on the new soundsets they're offering. I'll listen to them and pick which sounds the best and create a character based on it. I might go for cleric or swashbuckler.
