@sandmanCCL Half-elves can romance Viconia in BG2, elves can't. You tempt me with a druid, had one for a BG+TOSC run but her career stopped in BG2 just before entering Spellhold.
@immagikman Halflings can't dual-class, that's a human-only ability, and as far as I know halflings can't be mages either.

Maybe not without cheating (meant multi-class) but seriously Im going to have to wait till I get the game to decide...
Edit: looking at the BG2 manual it looks like if I want to be a Thief/Mage Ill have to be a half elf :P Fighter Thief is the only class open to Halflings
My first character will probably be a Female Elven Mage/Thief with an alignment of Neutral Good. Her party will probably consist of Neera, Kivan, Coran, Khalid, and Jaheira. I might do some tinkering with the party though. *shrug*
Well, my initial plans were to play as a LN Human Male Cleric of Helm but depending on whether they let us know what race/alignment combos can romance Neera I might roll up a Male Half-Orc Cleric/Thief (probably good) instead... choices choices...
I'm going to try out a Human Fighter ( Wizard Slayer, likely ), Dual Classed to Thief at lvl 3 ( For grand mastery in short sword ). Alignment will be some type of evil, as I'll be playing multiplayer with an evil party. I want to pick up Dorn and Edwin this time around.
I...hate to break it to you, dude, but I don't think you can put all four points into short sword at level 1. I'm so sorry.
This is true. But by level 3 you're either there or pretty close once you dual to thief.
I've been thinking about this a lot and I think I have it narrowed down to two options:
1. Half-elf CG Ranger/Cleric - sounds like a fun combo that gets a lot of options and is decent all the way through the series.
2. Human CN or CE Wizard Slayer, to be dualled to thief in ToB - this is the option if I decide to play an all-evil party. Might be tough in SoA and ToB until his thief level catches up, but the end result should be super strong thanks to the use any item ability. (I plan to take him all the way to epic level before dualling, so he gets maxed out THAC0, unlike fighters you dual earlier on who end up with not that great THAC0 at epic level).
Depends, if one kit is allowed in multiclass, and if blackguard can multiclass then a blackguard/cleric or something. If blackguard can't multiclass but a kit is allowed, then berserker/cleric.
If both can't happen, i'll just make a fighter/cleric or cleric/ranger(cheese much?) with an undead hunting obsession (although he will be obsessed with collecting parts of them, not killing them :P).
Probably half-elf for the multiclass cheese, but might go for dwarf, dunno.
@Mornmagor Don't forget about the Undead Hunter paladin kit, if hunting those things is your style. It's a very good kit, and is one of the coolest classes/kits in the game, if you think about it.
NG Elvish vanilla Thief, or NG Elvish Archer. Final choice depends on my multiplayer party...namely whether or not someone else wants to fill the thief slot. I refuse to leave chests unlocked while we wait for the arcane caster to learn Knock, its just so....wrong.
I think I'm gonna play a human Ranger, dualclassing to cleric, to get access to both druid and cleric spells, since I can not have Jaheira in my group (As she will only join with Khalid, unless I perma-kill him - and it would break the immersion to do so). Group setup will be: Charname, Rasaad, Minsc, Imoen (probably dual-classing to mage at level 5, in case I can get the knocking spell early in the game), Dynaheir, Neera
Playing with the wife so probably recreate a half orc barbarian/half elf wizard combo. Though there has been discussion of two halflings multiclass characters.
I think I'll roll a bard of some kind. I believe the first character I've ever gotten through all 3 games had been a bard so it's only fitting if I do the same now. I might even use the same portrait if I still have it lying around here somewhere.
A Half-Elf Bard was the character I had the most fun with in BG1 and BG2 (becoming a blade in that version). I'm not sure what I'll play this time. I remember dual classing a fighter to druid in Icewind Dale, that was an interesting combo....some form of spell caster with at least moderate fighting ability.....dwarf fighter/cleric....for BG1 though I'd prefer single class....
@Toxic 1) Blackguards are a paladin kit so most likely (and unfortunately) might be restricted to humans only; 2) halflings can't be mages, either single class or multi; 3) only multi-class option for rangers is cleric, and you can't use kits/specialist mages in a multi-class (only exception is gnomes who can only be illusionists).

Think I'm rolling a Chaotic Evil Human Female Kensai/Mage. 18 18 18 18 3 3 for the win!
Party: Dorn, Kagain, Xzar, Montaron, Viconia. Seems good.

Party: Me, Imoen (Thief lvl 5 or 6 dual to Mage), Ajantis, Kivan, Rasaad
@Delinom Now there's the ultimate cheese!
Group setup will be:
Charname, Rasaad, Minsc, Imoen (probably dual-classing to mage at level 5, in case I can get the knocking spell early in the game), Dynaheir, Neera
Str: 15
Dex: 17
Con: 17
Int: 16
Wiz: 17
Char: 15
I also plan on Making a Mage, some type of Bard, and possibly a class i've never played before.
1) Dwarf, Blackguard. CE
2) halfling thief/mage or fighter/mage.
3) Half elf archer/illusionist.
1) Blackguards are a paladin kit so most likely (and unfortunately) might be restricted to humans only;
