If you could choose a universe from fiction. . .

What universe would you choose? Why would you choose it?

Discuss, enjoy!

My vote should be self explanatory! Though for me it was a very hard choice! I just love the grit and realistic plausibility of the Firefly universe. While it would be great if Star Trek did end up being the future, I just can't see a day where we'll all be able to get along. Besides, where else am I going to get Morena Baccarin to live in my shuttle craft? :P

I'd go with Iain M Bank's Culture, probably. It's one of the few examples that thinks that humanity might actually be capable of achieving something close to an egalitarian utopian ideal. People can have anything they want, within reason, live practically forever and the biggest problem for 90% of them is how to avoid boredom.

    Be amazed!

I like it because it seems somehow more down-to-earth.

Mmmm... Firefly or Arda... I would also like to be a sorcerer though. I think it depends on if I'm being transported there, or I grew up there and can change my race and stuff.

Since you'd probably average and a commoner in these, I doubt they'd be better than reality, maybe Stat Trek, but acedie would be a problem. Reality isnt that bad, fantasies belong in the realm of fantasy.

Stat Trek? Is that an EVE online mod?

It's when you keep replaying speed runs to collect all the tomes.

No option to choose Planescape or either Michael Moorcock's Multi-universe? Come on, you just can't leave the Lord of Chaos to live in a single-Plane universe!

(I know you are limited by the poll's max number of options, so don't say you are :P)

I only voted for Midkemia so I could join in those who are amazing you. Midkemia would be OK as a male, but pretty crap if you are a woman - unless you were an uber-powerful magic user. Frankly I do not like the idea of dying in childbirth - which would be an extremely common thing in Midkemia.

I want to live in The Culture from Ian M. Banks books. A society where there is no poverty or illness, where people can choose their body shape and/or gender, where you can travel across the galaxy without being rich, where you can live as long as you like ... hell who wouldn't want to live there!

And this I can’t resist. You fellows make me chuckle. I should keep my mouth shut but…. :)
You mentioned scantily clad dark elf sorcerers and Liv Tyler, but what about Viggo Mortensen and handsome elven archers? Sigh… A girl could get a complex around here. :)

I'm with you - it's a damn shame Aragorn and Faramir are spoken for; and Borormir and Haldir are dead *sob* but we still have Legolas ... and Elrohir + Elrohir - with Kate Blanchett for a grandmother and Hugo Weaving for a Dad they've just got to be stunning ... and they're ELVES!

Damn it! I need more option!! There are like 10 more I wanted to add! :P ( I went there. :( )

Ahh yes! The issue when a man makes a poll! ;) I was actually going to do "Middle-Earth - Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Viggo Mortensen, Craig Parker. . . *Puuuuur*

My simple male genes were defeated, by Liv Tyler. . . :P

For those fond of challenges, you might have included Thieves' World. So gritty you'll be glad you oogled Mother Bey's Avatar...
  • CaloNordCaloNord Member Posts: 1,809
    Poll's need 20 options! :P I didn't even THINK of Thieves. . .
Did you mean Google? :P Because weird things happen when I google Mother Bey. . .

    Planescape.

Erm, the penalty for offending any Bey woman is death.

I'd rather not want to find out what happens if a mortal dared GOOGLE her. ;)

OMG LET ME EDIT THE VOTING LIST! :P

Naturally there a far to many to include them all. I picked the ones I've had experience with. ;) I can't comment or discuss that which I know nothing about. :P However, I expect I'll soon know a lot more! ;)

So many more I could add though!
