Just expressing this has made me realise how much I envy those first travellers to set out from Europe.
Well if it makes you feel any better the food would have sucked, it would have taken months to cross the ocean, and boredom would have been a big issue. Along with scurvy, maggots (mmm...biscuit protein) and rats of course.
Who knows maybe one day humanity could be off exploring the universe in some kind of cool starship. Preferably one with a replicator that makes good food (none of enterprise's "protein re-sequencer" stuff)
I'd be very interested to see just how fast we can advance in the coming 200 years when compared to the previous 3000. The last century has seen the advent of aircraft, the internal combustion engine, space exploration and nuclear power just to name a few. Imagine trying to explain to someone in 1920 that the human race would be in space 40 years later. It's a very short time compared to the rest of human history.
@CaloNord Maybe we could close this thread after a time and you can open a new one with the winners of this one and all the other worlds that were mentioned but not included in the poll.
@mlnevese Ooo good idea!! Give it another couple of days, I'll make up a list later tonight and do some research. I hate talking about things I don't know anything about.

Deep Space Nine is awesome :O. @abacus summed it up pretty well. The Star Trek universe has the most freedom and security than the rest of the choices. Sidenote: who would want to live in the Dragonball universe? That would suck. (I think Warhammer 40k would just be a death sentence).
Deep Space Nine and Next Gen were my favs. I see they are trying to get a new one going. They did a kind of promo/demo pilot. Star Trek Renegades. With proper funding and a decent makeup team. . . might be good. . . Certainly be a different take on it that's for sure!

I was just looking at the casting for that. Its actually pretty impressive.
No contest, I seem to reread the LoTR almost every year. Sitting around in a Shire tavern getting fat and smoking Hobbit pipe-weed is where you'd find me.
@elminster I know right? Just needs some proper backing! I do not like this new time line/universe JJ Abrams has. It just doesn't work for me. I think they would have been far better picking a new time span and a new crew. The Enterprise 1701 story has been told. Time for some new characters I think.
Altruaks are basically a race of super genius deinonychuses from another planet. Scientists are the most respected altruaks in their society. They also highly value helping others and doing what is good. Their home planet was invaded by the tentacled beetles and they were forced to flee to another planet because they were unable to defeat the beetles in the war to defend their home world. They were eventually able to defeat the tentacled beetles and reclaim their home world with help form yet more visitors from other planets. The altruaks are currently in the process of recolonizing their home world. One of the most well known and influential altruaks is Tarari, a veteran of the first war with the tentacled beetles and the commander in chief of the altruak military force in the reclamation war. It was Tarari who befriended C, the mysterious galactic adventurer who visited the altruaks' second planet. C, being a bitter enemy of the Tentacled Beetle Legion, called upon his many allies from the various other planets he had visited to aid the altruaks and revealed the tentacled beetles' greatest weakness, electricity, to them.
So, uh, this is my own made up universe if it isn't apparent yet...
Hm, I was very close to choosing Star Wars. Being able to shoot lightening from my hands would be pretty cool. Also the Sith are idiots so it would be fairly easy to take over their order.
But my vote went to Forgotten Realms. So many spells to learn, so many planes to visit, so many meat shields to die for me. Then once I get bored, ascension to godhood.
Star Wars without doubt... so much possibilities for a science researcher across the galaxy alongside your alien bros, discovering virgin or forgotten worlds, new races, cultures, creatures & plants everywhere. Such a life...
also fuck jedis and sith togheter they are just anti fun dudes

In Lower Canada, woodsmen ate carpenter ants as a key winter suplement. Connective tissue is nice to have.
@Tresset Details my good man?
