1. Official artwork is meaningless to me, partially because artists can basically do whatever they want, and also in part because making something look black and still maintaining good coloring and style is difficult. That gal may also appear blue because of the unnatural lighting of faerie fire or Underdark radiation. Hell, in the 80s and early 90s, drow were brown/bronze in most artwork. In other words, artwork lies. Show me a passage in a handbook that says drow are blue, and I'll concede the point.
Some drows just look more blue then black, all race does´t have 100 % same skin color !
2. ...Are you serious? LOOK at somebody when they're standing next to a bonfire in the dark. They can appear to be shades of red and orange, and that's on a normal person.
Yes i am completely serious.
1) Look on sky behind her. Sun rising or go down. It´s not dark. 2) ANY fire in the world does´t make your white hair violet and black skin white. 3) Look on some black guy near fire in night ( or look on it in movie if you do´t know any black guys )
Will you try something like " Someone has casting Color spray on her ! " now ?
I prefer the classic BG1 portrait as it feels a lot more reflective of her being a drow worshipper of an evil deity. So unless she converts to the worship of Eilistraee and starts frollicking in some woods in BG2 I don't think the latter portrait is as in keeping

ITT: wearing a hood and not looking like you're about to hit something means you're a goody two-shoes
@Laflamme That's by FAR the best alternate portrait posted in this thread.
I am a fan of the BG1 portrait style as opposed to the style of BG2. I vastly prefer many of the portraits from 1 over the ones in 2 for the reocurring characters... that said the original Viconia pic was pretty horrendous. Her face is clearly not any variation of a drow colour. Maybe she's done in the old style of Drow where they were brown/bronze but her hair is simply all wrong. The light in the picture is coming from below her (you can tell based on the way the shadows fall on her face) so the hair at the bottom of her face should show her hair colour quite clearly... But it's like purple... it's purple with a white hue to it.
Huh? Her hair isn't purple. Take off her helmt and her hair is white in the first game... so why is her hair purple? And no, the light shining on her face wouldn't make her bronze skin be lighter bronze, reflect orange on her armor (look at the underside of her arms) and add a purple hue to her hair... that makes zero sense.
As for officially changing the portrait, I'm totally against it but if they had to change it I'd say that altered pic Laflamme posted earlier is definitely the best candidate.
she needs to be pretty they portrait in bg is not pretty. andI personally think she is supposed to be more erotic because she tends to flaunt her sexuality talking of doing nasty things to fat merchants and what not. So I normally find a picture of a drow showing a bit more skin (more because I'm a bit of a perv but also cuz it fits her character better) a little cleavage and all that but BG2 is much more close to her actual personality.
I'm all the way for BG1 portraits. Still remember the dissapointment in cartoon-like BG2 ones when i run the game for the first time. Even if that means that few portraits are less sexy...
Regardless of any other considerations, bg2 viconia depicts a drow. bg1 viconia doesn't seem like a drow. Hotness is also a factor, a drow woman should be hot and still have chr 14. (If she was an elf - that is a mere skin/hair color change, she would easily get 18). That is because drow were regarded monsters by all surfacers. I doubt PIC1 would have a charisma of 14 About evil looking - Viconia is less of an evil, more of a hurt personality. Her whole exile was because she wasn't 'enough evil' to stay in drow society. Being put on a pyre twice didn't help either. And this all doesn't count, because drow women wouldn't 'look' evil - except, you know, looking like a drow. A follower of Llolth would have just as a cute face as a follower of Eilistraee
To me, her BG1 photo should indeed be remade to look even slightly like a drow with the added hotness due to her charisma, but it should also look more young than her BG2 photo since this can reflect her naivity in her younger days on the surface where in BG2 an older, mature and experianced look like her current photo would be good. Just throwing this out there
I happened upon this portrait a while ago and have been using it for Viconia ever since. I've always seen her more as a divine caster than a combatant.
The BG1 portrait fits her character as a defiant, evil outcast better, while the BG2 one fits the fact that she's a Drow better. Other than that the BG2 portrait is really bad. She looks like a pornstar that would not have much problems in the overworld due to her looks alone. Imho she is supposed to look more evil and alien and less like a gracious elf. One the other hand she actually was forced to be a pleasure slave for a while until she killed her captor. I just think her attractiveness should be an exotic one and not that of a pornstar.
The soft, feminine face with childlike proportions couldn't be further from a truthful depiction of those characteristics. Lipstick, makeup and eyebrow-plucking? I'm afraid most of us males here are easily won over by attractivness rather than authenticness. The BG2 portrait makes me think of an arrogant rich girl who is primarily concerned with her looks.
These are probably the most accurate characterizations in this thread so far:

I really like that Viconia portrait. Is there a site it can be downloaded from for use in the game?

If it is, it will be on this thread : http://www.shsforums.net/topic/46134-portraits-edits-etc/
Sleeping with Faere in Ust Natha ends the romance with Jaheira and Aerie. Does it also end the romance with Viconia?
