Since new portraits have been somewhat lacking here lately I have taken it upon myself to remedy the situation. Here you go, a crusaderish portrait that should be perfect for paladins and maybe fighters too.
Actually I think it works as long as the style remains consistent. And if you use all of them, it doesn't get more consistent. You just need one for the protagonist too and you're good to go imo. If you think about it there's nothing that makes the default portraits particularily Baldur's Gatey as their style doesn't match up with the sprites or paper dolls.

@Silverstar Well, the original(especially bg1, less so in bg2) portraits are painted, but they are almost photorealistic. They take themselves very seriously, and that contributes quite a bit to the style and mood of the game. If the portraits were cartoony like these, the game would give off a very different first impression. When you start to make your first char, the portrait is the second thing you see, after the intro cinematic.
Great point @meagloth. For me, it continues to influence the way I see the game, as well... The inter-mingling of BG1 and BGII (character sprites, some items) and now even IWD (if you use the new official portraits) art styles in BG:EE really affects the mood of the game for me. I still fire up vanilla BG1 on occasion because it's more immersive to me. BG:EE feels kind of messily inconsistent in the art style department to be honest, but they were more consistent than TuTu so that's a plus.
Atatching a profile picture for everyone to enjoy; a "Baldurized" picture of myself And the same pic I have for my skald. Colours taken from Jaheiras portrait nad the hair colour is from the game to.

Why does Edwin have hair? Nitpick I know but Edwin is bald. Like every other Red Wizard, male or female, ever. Bald. With an epic beard.
I dunno. Because hair is cooler than no hair. (I don't like the idea of Edwin being bald, personally, or Minsc having hair, for that matter. I don't really give a crap about lore, and I think long hair is way cooler than no hair. I would hate to be bald or shaved. It fits Edwin better. It works for Minsc cause he's a fighter type, so it makes sense. But Edwin should not be bald.) Though do you actually see hair in the portraits, either of them?
Doesn't look like it. I think that stuff in the bg2 portraits is cloth, not hairdo if you want him to be bald, I don't think it's a problem. I think it's a preference thing. You don't see any hair, but you don't see a lack of hair either. You get to pick. That's why you see both in the fanart. As for the beard, I take the bg2 portraits with a grain of salt. Edwin is not the kind of man who has a nose piercing on a chain, ready to be yanked it battle.
Over the past few months I've been putting off a lot of projects, but had already committed to making the characters for @Ravenslight's mod. I worked on and off on these two for quite a while and still have two others to finish. I'm rusty after not making portraits for so long, so this is definitely not my best work...
Edit: ...and that's why I remade both. The revised versions can be seen in subsequent posts.
@Isandir I’m so delighted with how you captured, what Kerick refers to as Damen’s “basilisk gaze.” Just perfect. Thank you again for all your hard work. We really appreciate your taking the time out of your busy schedule to craft these.
I spent some time yesterday working on the third of the four requests from @Ravenslight, and I felt better about how it turned out. The character was intended to have a sinister feel, but I'll leave it to Raven to tell more if she's willing to drop some hints about the mod.
This time I included the base image to give an idea of the transformation she went through. The character was supposed to have a necklace/choker anyway, and combined with the somewhat icy expression, I thought this model was appropriate.
As @Heindrich and some of the others can tell you, I tend to be overly critical of my own work. Every time I make a portrait and look back at it, I see all of the elements that could be much better. The good side is that it means I keep trying to make them better out of sheer obsessive-compulsiveness...
@Isandir: since I'm not sure you've read my PM I'll simply namedrop you. ;D
I did receive it, and I'll hopefully be able to give it a shot over the weekend. I'm midway through the first week of my new job, and it's rather intense (in a good way for the most part). That also means I'll unfortunately be posting far less at the moment, so I'm hoping to see @Syntia13 (where have you been?) @vierrae and others offering some more of their creations.
Hey, I read this just today: because of some obscure forum magic this thread was bookmarked no more! O,o

Can be a good trait to have!! I do the same thing with anything I do. Your work is incredible but there is always room for improvement the way I see it!
Rather than let myself get sucked into other work, I went ahead and made the final character for @Ravenslight's mod yesterday. For those of you have been forum members for a very long time, he may be familiar: I used the model from one of my earliest portraits, as he seemed appropriate for Raven's character. If anyone aspires to make portraits and feels like they're not that great...just visit the old thread and look at how bad I was when I started!
Mmm. To pretty for eldoth. And not stoned enough. The guy in the meme with the funny hat would be perfect. What he called.... Douche bag Doug or something.
As I had mentioned in a previous post, I wasn't quite happy with some of the work I did for @Ravenslight, so I tweaked one of the portraits today, cleaning it up and changing the background. The first version felt muddied and too different from the others in the set. Here's the new version. (And the old one has been purged. Feel my righteous anger, unsatisfactory portrait!)

I can't even choose whom I like the best. Maybe Jan and Nalia... Arrgh, Haer'Dalis and Korgan are great too... They're all heroes, as Minsk would say.
@bengoshi she has some bg1 people too. I really like these. I wish there were more, I would do a playthrough with these as the character portraits.

Thank the Gods! You have returned!

BUT she has produced TWO new gems that I just had to share with everybody! xD
Neera:
I have a new favourite Neera portrait I love it!
Sarevok:
I'm too goodie two-shoes to tolerate him in my party, but what an awesome picture for those who embrace the dark side!
For new members of the community, check out her Deviant Art and amazing pictures for Aerie, Imoen, Viconia, Jaheira and Minsc!

If you see this Nixxi, please come back and say hi! I hope you don't mind me sharing, your work is too good to keep hidden!

Welcome back!!
