I don't give a damn about Gorion. The game fails in create some empathy with him.
And he couldn't quite get around to telling CHARNAME about his heritage and the danger it poses, even after the assassination attempts begin. I wonder if he was protecting me from the world, or protecting the world from me.

"Don't worry, I will explain everything when there is time."
Yeah, if you really mean everything, dude, then it would probably have been better to to it before leaving, when you'd have much better chances of getting a free minute. Bandits wouldn't have jumped you in Candlekeep, at least not in enough numbers to be threatening.

It's a 4 hour trip from Candlekeep to where Gorion died .
At Spellhold Irenicus muses that if Gorion had told Charname and Imoen about their heritage and prepared them to the inevitable trials that would await them in life it might have changed a lot of things. Of course at this point he thinks he's won and things can turn out for the best regardless but I thought he had a point there.
Gorion's "give them a normal life" stance is really naive. I know Harpers aren't known for their amazing decision-making skills but come on.

That seems to be the standard operating procedure for wise old mentors raising people with momentous destinies. See also: Dumbledore and Harry Potter. Really, I think this line of work needs some better oversight and regulation, because they're not performing up to snuff.
To be fair, Dumbledore's plans for Harry worked out, what with Harry turning out to be a good human being and managing to defeat Voldemort.
Yes, but I imagine a less good and pure person than Harry would have snapped at some point and killed the Dursleys in their sleep, so it's not as if the deck was stacked in Good's favour.
Not to mention Gandalf nearly lost the War of the Ring before it began.
"Hey Frodo, I've got a nasty suspicion about that ring. I need you to live in Rivendell for a bit while I do some research to confirm it."
Much worse in the books than the Peter Jackson films, since the latter were vague about timeframe. In the books, Gandalf waited 27 years after Bilbo's farewell party to get a move on with things. Jesus.

It's also explained in the books though. Generic rings of invisibility where not uncommon. It was only when Bilbo failed to age that Gandalf became suspicious. Even then, he initially thought it was one of the dwarven rings, Saruman having convinced everyone that the One was at the bottom of the sea. The Shire was also a less onvious hiding place than Rivindell, and not full of people who could potentially use the Ring themselves.

Harry Potter is basically Jesus Christ. Granted he has a temper problem but the kid is pure and incorruptible to bullshit levels. Even the final "battle" boils down to "renounce your evil ways or suffer in Hell for eternity!"

I like cosmetic attacks. They make the character look like they're actually doing something in between strikes. And after seeing them for so long, I can actually tell, based on APR and weapon speed factor, which attacks will be fake and which will be real.
On the whole Gandalf/Dumbledore/Gorion mentor thing. I'm most forgiving of Gorion out of everyone.
From what I recall on Gandalf didn't he have roughly 2.5 millennia to find the ring and the two other wizards that were supposed to be helping him. He knew he had to find the ring at some point, perhaps buying shipyards would have been the best bet for him if he thought it was under water.
Dumbledore I've always actually considered somewhat malicious and devious. He looked at the possibility of Harry dying and was actually okay with that outcome whether Harry was aware of it or not. He also left Harry vulnerable in a school for several years despite knowing that many bad people would be after him. He was always aware Voldemort would be back.
Gorion, I look at it like this. He raised his child for 20 years in a keep learning skills and other things from the sages there. He had what I guess would be a pretty high quality education compared to the average person in that time period. Gorion also kept him undetected and safe for 20 years and was not ignorant of the fact that Sarevok had caught on to him and was ready to move. They just got unlucky in the ambush, had he not died we have on idea what might have happened. He clearly had allies and plans to teach and help the protagonist. He was even consulting Elminster, and while he could not directly interfere, it's not a bad friend to have in ones periphery.
Spells and magic from Neverwinter nights 1 and 2 is boring while bg1 and bg2 have the best variety of spells ever. Oh, and ps:t has the best spell graphics .
I'll admit it, sometimes I've entertained the fantasy of companies (not just Beamdog) to purposefully include everything the vocal minority hates just to spite them... it's a good thing I'm not in the industry I guess.
Shapeshifter druid is as powerful as any class in the game if played correctly.
I feel like this can be objectively disproven, depending on your definition of "powerful". It's viable, yes, but I find it hard to fathom that a shapeshifter could be as OP as some of the munchkin class/race/use-any-item combos that some folks come up with.
i find vanilla bg1 preety much unplayable. it's mostly the walking speed.
I remember playing vanilla BG2 again shortly after the Haer'Dalis romance mod was released (it wasn't compatible with EE at the time). You really don't get to appreciate just how much better the EEs are until you went back to vanilla for comparision.
