OHHH I'M IN MRYKUL'S TEMPLE. Learning lore about Mrykul and Kelemvor is FASCINATING. Not to mention I'm going to help a Kelemvorite learn to become a Lich. MMMMM the Necromancy theme so far is great. Also, I met Rainbow Bear. He tried to kill me Now he has an army outside the city. I imagine once I help this Cleric woman, Kaelyn the Dove I think her name is, I'll go deal with that.
So I haven't played much this weekend so far because I have been studying for finals @_@. I did get
Rainbow Bear in my party, though! Piro didn't have the heart to devour him. She may be leaning towards Chaotic Neutral now but certainly not evil, not yet. She still has hope her friends are alive somewhere like she was.
I also got a friend interested in the game. I told her how she could make an archer druid that can shapeshift into a dragon and she was like "WHAT AN RPG WHERE I CAN BE A DRAGON!?" and was instantly hooked XD
Edit: I plan to gift the game to her GoG acct for Christmas.
I've gotten up to the point of entering Amon Jerro's Haven. I haven't played the end phase of this game in so long, it's fresh again, so I am having the intended emotional reactions. My mission in life is to kill the warlock who killed all my friends in West Harbor. (I don't think the game is ever going to give me a chance to do it, though. Maybe I'll have to settle for keeping him gearless and badly built, so he can die over and over every time we go into combat with him in our forced relationship time. (devil face emoji - what's the code for that?)
I'm starting to become attached to Zhjaeve, especially since I rebuilt her with actually useful feats instead of the crap she comes with, to turn her into a Hammer of the Gods spellcasting juggernaut, with Greater Spell Penetration, Silent, Empower, and Maximize feats. With Zhjaeve, we have both me as a Druidzilla, and her as a Clericzilla, so our party is pretty overwhelming to the game combat wise, especially since I also have replaced Grobnar with a metamagic-built Sand. The only challenging battle in this game is with the Dragon Matron, and I'm guessing she won't be much of a problem either, with Assay Resistance combined with an onslaught of Maximized and Empowered Magic Missiles and Hammers of the Gods. We'll see when the time comes. It may come down to how long Khelgar and I can tank her while Sand and Zhjaeve do their thing. We'll have immunity to fire via Energy Immunity spells.
I was planning to try to find the tomes and ink to upgrade our keep golem, but I was warned in a Force Vision that Grobnar foolishly gave the command codes for the thing to Bishop. I felt through the Force that Bishop was traitor trouble the moment he opened his mouth to me. So, I will not only be not upgrading the keep golem, I will be looking for some way to sabotage it if I can, without telling Grobnar. I'd like to have Bishop executed, but it's not right to order that based on Force Vision alone. "Difficult to see. Always in motion, is the future."
I want really bad to upgrade my Chautea's Thorn spear to +5, and to add ice damage, but I can't have Sand do those things without a blue diamond and a star sapphire. I have found that the limit to crafting in this game comes down to the DM's placement of rare gems, and alchemical reagents. In the NWN OC, the reagents are plentiful, but the gems are extremely rare and hard to find. Thus, it is always a risk to take the crafting feats (alchemy skill, Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wondrous Items), with any character, unless you already know that the scenario you are playing has a crafting friendly DM or mod creator.
So, next play session we start in on Amon Jerro's Haven.
I'm still having enormous fun with this "Jedi" Stormlord/druid character. I haven't been in the mood to play heavy-rpg games like this in quite some time, but inspired by @Vallmyr and NWN2, I am already thinking of replaying KOTOR and KOTOR2 again in honor of the coming Star Wars movie, and maybe Dragon Age: Origins as well.
The characters I always get into the most are Jedi-based, so, I'm also thinking of eventually making a fighter-mage or a fighter-cleric to play through BG:EE and SoD. Having so many ideas about characters I want to play through games just makes life so invigorating for me.
I think I would be depressed to the point of suicidal despair without games from New World Computing, Bioware, and Beamdog. @Son_of_Imoen will know what I mean by this.
So, yeah, thanks again, @Vallmyr , and @bengoshi , for getting me so excited again about all the wonderful gaming scenarios I have ahead of me.
Sand is. . .dead. These demons told me they took me away from the crumbling ruins. It would appear Ammon Jerro lives and tried to save me; even chasing after me into the portal Kelghar is also confirmed by the demons to be alive. Casavir's fate is unknown. I hope he's alright. I really, really hope Neeshka and Bishop are ok. I know you can summon Neeshka as a hellfire warlock in SoZ but I'm unsure if that's just an easter egg or confirmation on her survival.
Thank you, @BelgarathMTH , for sharing your playthroughs, and your feelings, through your posts. Every time I read your new report, it feels as if I've played it myself
So, tonight, I had time for a short 2 hour play session. I finished the Ammon Jerro's Haven dungeon.
Then, back in Crossroads Keep, I started talking to the guy, and found out there are many more shades of moral gray in what is going on in this setting than I had understood. I have to respect a game story that gives me this kind of ethical-moral workout. I think Jerro has made horrible mistakes in judgment, but he has good in him. He's not irredeemable, to my surprise. He has sincere remorse that he killed his granddaughter (if not for killing my friends in West Harbor) in a fit of rage, but Zhjaeve says she was going to die anyway due to her having sacrificed too much blood to save us. Jerro thinks he's trying to save Faerun from the Shadow King by using the Dark Side, just as I think I'm trying to save it by using the Light.
Jerro is ruthless. He consorts with devils, demons, and all the forces of Hell. Yet debating with him reminds me of Luke debating with Darth Vader, going around in circles while insisting over and over that Vader has good in him, and that he should make a better choice, and that it's never too late to change course. There's a very interesting psychodrama of redemption going on between my main character and the Jerro family.
I could go on at more length about the ethical debates I had with Jerro and Zhjaeve at the Crossroad Keep Inn, but I won't.
The roleplaying scenario at the inn transitions the game to Act III, and there's a game design problem here. My inventory is packed to the gills with junk I need to sell, and the game railroads you at this point into a very long, solo, combat-intensive scenario with no chance to sell all the junk you probably collected in Jerro's Haven. Thank goodness I have a Greater Bag of Holding. That will help a little.
There is also no way to rest. The forced railroad happens as soon as you walk towards the door of the inn to try to go out and sell your vendor trash. I *think* it might have been possible to just rest right there in the inn before I walked towards the door, but I didn't know there was a developer railroad trap waiting there.
So, I had to fight a greater vampire lord and about a dozen greater wraiths with my buff spells all spent from the last phase of the Jerro Haven dungeon. Luckily, I had been holding onto several Potions of Heal, and I had some extra Flame Weapon and Lightning Storm spells memorized. The Lightning Storms were especially saving since I was having trouble hitting the greater vampire lord and the greater wraiths.
This scenario was challenging, but only because I got forced into it with no chance to rest or prepare. My no-reload status would have ended here if I hadn't had those four unused Lightning Storms memorized against that greater wraith mob, and I would have been pretty angry about it.
But, all's well that ends well, I guess. I followed Nevalle to the safe room, where I was able to rest and buff, and next play session, I will begin what I remember to be a very long solo scenario in the dungeons underneath Neverwinter Castle.

Like others here, after reading these wonderful reports I am being strongly torn towards playing through myself again. Hmmm....
Just to make things different (I almost always play as a wizard), i was thinking about either playing as a Full Ranger or as a Cleric/Storm Lord. I am by no means a 'Power gamer' (not that there is anything in the world wrong with that play style), so I am not looking for a 'Build' necessarily but merely suggestions about general pros and cons (broad strokes here please).
My ranger would be probably either a Wood elf or a straight human male and again probably STRAIGHT ranger (though I might be convinced to throw in Assassin).
I've never played a Storm Lord so I wouldn't have the first clue where to begin, but she would be Assimir and a Warrioress first and foremost. She would focus mainly on combat and use whatever spells she had to buff herself. Beyond that I wouldn't know how to proceed.
few notes on weapons, in NWN2 iirc bows and ranged weapons are rather crappy, so stick with melee or magic. there is a feat called monkey grip which allows you to wield two handed weapon in one hand hence the recommendation given for 2 spears.
I always stick with the silver sword for RP purposes but it also gives you unique powers as well.
Another thing is in MOTB you no longer need crafting skills and feats to enchant weapons. you got this bag which you put items in and then cast a spell on it to enchant. I remember fondly my Dragon Disciple with +8 lightning\fire Greataxe of massive crits. brings back memories... oh dear dev crit + Great cleave to insta kill everything muhahahahahha
Bows aren't crappy if you know how to make a proper archer. Rogue/Assassin/AA is easily one of the deadliest combos in the game (mainly because Death Attack is a wee bit buggy, but who cares ). Then again, it only shines in the epics, so it is indeed not that good for OC.
I found Bishop as part of the wall of the faithless. I wish I could have helped him. I miss all my old companions. Gann is perfect in every way and is the best but I still miss everyone else.
@the_spyder A dip of Ranger is always useful as it gives you access to favoured enemy. OC is pretty much 70% undead, so it's an easy choice. In MotB, it's mostly Fey and an occasional Elemental or two. If you go pure Ranger, you can add in Outsiders for the OC and Golems for both. 21 level of Ranger unlocks Bane of Enemies, which is a +2 AB and +2d6 damage against all your favoured enemies. Quite neat.
It's also reasonable to go for FB levels as it's hands down the best class for PvM and if you combine it with a Ranger you can have Favoured Enhanced Improved Power Attacks. Combined with Improved FE, that's +36 damage per hit (with a two-handed weapon) which is rather brutal.
Rogue dips are the classic way of getting access to skills (and Evasion, which is quite useful as well). There aren't many places in MotB where a Rogue is particularly useful, but in the OC it helps to have an extra rogue in case you don't want Neeshka in your party.
6 Warlock levels give you access to unlimited Haste uses (Flee the Scene), which is extremely helpful for the OC's final dungeon (and indeed very helpful in general). Or you can pick the Walk Unseen invocation for on-demand invisibility. Or 8 levels+ for both.
3 Cleric levels/4 Favoured Soul levels give you access to the Living Undeath spell, which makes life A LOT easier against bandits, thugs and all that rabble as it provides you with Sneak Immunity.
It's generally a bad idea to go for a combat cleric because of how tedious buffing is. Persistent spell makes things a bit easier, but you have to get there first, and that part can be bothersome.
I am more of an RPer than anything else and so my characters follow RP rather than Power lines. In that, I generally avoid 'Dipping' into a class for a given ability (and absolutely loath it where Shadow Dancer and Paladins are concerned). Still, that's some good info.
Regarding the Cleric, all of my priests are combat focused. My operational template is very Nordic Valkyrie warrior maidens who are the leaders of their orders. I just don't do 'heal bots' as a character type (not that you explicitly said that as a choice but that is all I think about when avoiding the more combat oriented side of things, yes I am that one dimensional).
I do know that in MoTB, Persistent helps a WHOLE lot against a certain effect. So it is a thought.
Note for MOTB, there is a console commands which lets you use all possible companions at your party at the same time. considering you can get only 6 +- iirc it shouldn't break the game too much but for rp reasons it is epic.
Well, it's not like you can't RP your dips if you want to. E.g., starting out as a Rogue and moving on to becoming a Wizard or something is perfectly sound in my book. It's a completely different story if you want a Bard/Cleric/RDD/Stormlord though.
Note for MOTB, there is a console commands which lets you use all possible companions at your party at the same time. considering you can get only 6 +- iirc it shouldn't break the game too much but for rp reasons it is epic.
Hmmm? Where might I find this console command?
Also, as for dips I can see the RP behind it especially if the party has a class you're dipping into. Learn to be a wizard from Sand or maybe learn the faith of Zerthimon from Zhjaeve.
I found Bishop as part of the wall of the faithless. I wish I could have helped him. I miss all my old companions. Gann is perfect in every way and is the best but I still miss everyone else.
Considering Ganns past, he is quite a well adjusted Cambion. The writers messed up making him a Hagspawn. His Momma is a NightHag ( a planar being) not a common Hag, This explains why he is so pretty, poor dear didn't know better being raised in the wilderness and dreamwalking through life.
Note for MOTB, there is a console commands which lets you use all possible companions at your party at the same time. considering you can get only 6 +- iirc it shouldn't break the game too much but for rp reasons it is epic.
do not forget talking with them is important. I thought it was fun playing with everyone in the party.
This can also help with the....... added issue you can turn it off, so you can rest, or until you need it in special areas. The first time I played Motb is was drudgery because of that special issue, but I learned t play it straight.
@Notabarbiegirl , Thanks! And yeah. I finished that area recently and now I can dreamwalk with Gann. His voice actor is soooo goood. Also on the subject of the curse and such I've been dealing with it pretty well. I've been resting rarely and been able to keep it around 69%. Piro doesn't have the heart to devour the other fey spirits so she just suppresses the hunger.
I'm fortunate I'm playing a Bard, really. Even without spells or my limited-use bardsongs Piro makes a decent melee fighter with just her inspiration of courage. I finally got Two Weapon Fighting since before I was relying on a weapon that gave the feat. My build is so screwed up but whatever I'm currently enjoying my character hardcore XD. On future runs I'll try to plan things out better.
I stumbled upon two berserkers in the ashwood area. I was able to save the two but one was severely wounded. I offered to save his life but his friend denied me the chance to heal him so he passed away. I called him a fool for letting his friend die. If I had the chance to be there for Neeshka and everyone I certainly would have saved them. This guy threw his friend's life away for the sake of some tradition of theirs. An honorable death serves no use for the dead.
I am more of an RPer than anything else and so my characters follow RP rather than Power lines. In that, I generally avoid 'Dipping' into a class for a given ability (and absolutely loath it where Shadow Dancer and Paladins are concerned). Still, that's some good info.

As a sensible suggestion, I played an Favoured Soul [of Talos]/Stormlord as one of my SoZ party. Because of the party focus in SoZ they ended up in a support role, but with the greater focus on the main character in the OC they would make a good combat focused divine caster that makes role playing sense.
@Vallmyr - Just a friendly suggestion (or at least something that worked for my character) if you are planning on fighting the curse,
make sure that you have ample access to STR potions, spells or other means of increasing your STR. Encumbrance can be a real pain, particularly when it prevents you from moving at all and you have to reload.
I was planning on going through the campaign again so I went around looking for some general stuff and I came across that. Not entirely sure if it works properly, but I'll give it a spin. I'm sure the fix has been included in other stuff like Kaedrins pack and so on, but I generally prefer smaller components. Instead of stuffing my override with too much stuff.
