I take the naming of characters as a very serious business; no silly names in my gaming groups or in my BG-games. These are all dungeons and dragons p&p characters that I've played as, but grown fond of them enough to have played Baldur's Gate as them too.
Telthüern Tellyannan - highelven Archmage (f/m/t in bg), male, chaotic neutral Daelric Ultharas - human Enchanter of Netheril descent, male, neutral evil Kathryn - Morninglord and Chosen of Lathander, chondathan female, neutral good Selhen - Wizard-Archivist of Savras (c/m in bg) tiefling male, true neutral
Zentari Greyoak- Male elf Ranger Archer Kerwyn Obelisk- Human Male Thief Swashbuckler First nAme: Ozzy, Otto, Peewee, Burma, Mojo, Uzzy Last mane Botkins
I've only played two characters, so far. Lilystar and Beesharp. Both elven rangers. Beesharp is the one I'm currently using. I ment to spell it: Beasharp but didn't catch the spelling. I kinda like the way it is now. Bees and sharp stingers (arrows)
1. Seth (of Candlekeep) - Cavalier. Named after my wonderful son.
2. Zbyszko (of Candlekeep) - Fighter/LG. Named after the Protagonist in the novel, The Teutonic Knights.
3. Behmen von Bleibruck (of Candlekeep) - Wzd Slayer/LG. Named after Protagonist in the movie, Season of the Witch
I like to use medeival-type names, usually of chivalrous, warrior-monks like the Templars, Hospitallers or Teutonic Knights. Hlf the fun for me is developing the PC & trying to keep them in character with their dialogue choices etc.
In keeping with Medieval titles my PCs always are "of Candlekeep"
This time 'round: A Half-Drow Jester named ... Droll Lorca (Droll because it doubles as a character adjective that works well in AI dialogue + Lorca after the world-renowned Spanish poet [my character is a bard after all])
One of my favourites is my LE Fighter/Assassin dual, Belindis. (I edited the kit in, of course). As a Fighter, Belindis trained primarily with the quarterstaff, becoming adept at its use (started with ++ in QS and 2H Fighting). While on the road, however, she slowly came to see that other skills might be needed beyond her martial prowess, and her sharp eye and quick reflexes (Dex 18), and good analytical skills (Int 15) made her suitable for a rogue-like career. She dualled at level 7, taking up the paths of Longsword and Crossbow, and then later learning how to more-adequately handle a single weapon (+ Single Weapon fighting at 4). Once her Fighter skills return she continues to learn all three weapons.
I RP Belindis as adhering to her own specific code of honour, for example she will always keep her word and thus does not give it lightly and never does so without the possibility of explicit gain. Even if she gets duped into accepting a deal without the reward she expected, she will follow through on it (though an unfortunate accident, or a mysterious wasting poison, might follow later: she does have a reputation to maintain, after all).
I primarily picked Fighter/Assassin because I liked the concept, despite its illegality. In my headcanon, Belindis' high intelligence allowed her to learn much of human anatomy in Candlekeep, knowing the weak spots on a person's body (which is why she crits on a 19, after all). Dorn, who has poison-weapon as a skill, is also one of her long-term travelling companions, and I figured she might have picked up the basics of the skill through observing him, as well as some knowledge of herbs and toxins garnered from her more innocuous studies at home. Moreover, the Assassin's primary benefit, better backstab, only really comes into effect at high levels when her skills will have been honed, and the lower skill progression seemed to fit the idea of her learning the skills slowly. Because her primary mental faculties are in observation and analysis, she actually specialises more in Finding Traps and Detecting Illusions than other, perhaps more practical, thieving skills, relying on invisibility spells and potions to set up her sneak attacks.
