Help: I need a good name for a gnome airship

FardragonFardragon Member Posts: 4,511
My PnP campaign is about to take to the skies aboard a gnome airship, but I need to think of a cool name. So far I have:

Punk Steamer
Sunchaser
Occident Express

If you're envision for it to be an rigid airship, I'd call it Led Zeppelin. ;)

Mixing names with made up faux scientific terms have also proven to be popular if you're going for a more steampunk approach of Gnomish technology: Chronorica, Cirrostratus, Aetherian Illum, Gearavian Ark, Steamshuttle, Brasscloud, Clocksail, Aetherbreaker, Star Railroad, ect.

Or if it's a rigid airship built with government money, the Graft Zeppelin.

Sorry, I'll just get my coat and see myself out.

What about Hindenburg? That just 'screams' airship to me, and absolutely nothing else whatsoever.

So if you want to mess with the players heads try:
    • Crash Landing
    • Mid-Air Collision
    • Fiery Explosion
    • The Sinking Ship
And see if they actually get on the thing.

Or name it after a monster like
    • The Cockatrice
    • Griffin's Nest
    • Imp's Balloon
    • Cold Phoenix

    The Belching Butterfly

    Your Mom's Gas-Filled Boat

    The Naughty Nimbus

    George

I quite like Cold Phoenix. Names like Titanic and Hindenburg would give the players an appropriate "bad feeling about this", but don't make a lot of in-game sense. It's been built in Cormyr for a voyage to look for Lantan.

I also want something that works in the title "Voyage of the Tumpity Tump".

The vast majority of real life airships seem to have had incredibly boring names, like LZ 18. With some notable exceptions.

I think I might settle for The Parsnip Perambulator.

I expect Cormyrian gnomes have a different root vegetable obsession.

    "The Flying Amnian"?

If they're Cormyr gnomes, maybe 'The Purple Dragon'?

    Well, a gnomish airship...hmmm...

    The Jolly Jansen
    Fardragon's Folly
    Belching Barnacle

Reminds me of a thing from the Onion when they were listing the names of less-than-completely-safe airline companies.

Like "Bubba and the Plane He Done Builted."

You were originally considering Sunchaser - just replace that with Dawn Treader and it works perfectly in your desired title :p.

Dawn Treader was my inspiration - that was always my favourite Narnia book. However, this journey is to the west, not the east.
  • deltagodeltago Member Posts: 7,811
    Dusk Treader then.
