Youtuber "Legal Eagle" posted an interesting video on the questions raised by the Barr memo. https://youtu.be/t3qjH7pFq_0
His biggest question: Why state that the Mueller report "Does not exonerate.."? Since this was just a summary, why even mention it?
Because he was parsing excerpts of language in the report. If I was just using 64 words, I could make "1984" seem like a romance novel. All indications seem to be that Mueller meant for the obstruction case to be decided by Congress. Since there is a DoJ policy that a President can't be indicted, Mueller was never going to say so. He was going to present the evidence either way. Instead, we have William Barr, the ultimate and sole arbitier of what the American people deserve to see and hear. And nevermind us, what the hell is the excuse for not handing over an unredacted report to House committee chairman?? They have the highest security clearances possible.
So has anyone been seeing the stories about Trump and Macron's visit to Mt. Vernon last year? Talk about an international embarrassment. Reports are that Macron and his wife knew more about George Washington than Trump did. He kept asking questions about how rich Washington was. He also seemed baffled that Washington didn't name the place after himself. Too bad no one told Trump that Washington turned down a chance to become king of America. His head might have actually exploded.

His theory is clearly proven correct when you take into account that no one remembers who George Washington is.

@Balrog99: George Washington Carver was an agricultural scientist, often erroneously credited with inventing peanut butter, though he did pioneer some new farming techniques involving peanuts.
He's not to be confused with another prominent American with a similar name, an 18th-century white planter known in part for freeing a number of slaves. That would be George Carter I.

He is also justly famous for assisting the Avatar in escaping from Mars and foiling the evil plans of Raxachk.

My guess is those "other countries" are places like China, the Philippines and Turkey. And what is the insinuation, that if left to their natural inclinations troops would do.....what exactly?? Beat up helpless women and children??

See! If a peanut was actually called a Washington, we’d know that.
Oh and everyone knows who Louis Pasteur is right without googling him.
And not a single person can tell me what Steve Jobs accomplished before he passed away. Steve Apple on the other hand...

But it was more the 2nd person context of the statement. Obviously, naming something after a person (such as the Capital or an entire state) is homage to them and helps future generations remember who they were. Just think of the name of your Elementary or High school and how much you know of that actual person but they didn’t name it themselves and just gives insight into Trump’s mind as to why he names everything after himself.

Firstly, 1984 was a romance novel. The dystopian society was merely the backdrop of love and, ultimately, betrayal.
Second, unfortunately it's now time to protect the integrity of office. I agree that the chairman should be allowed to view the full report. But even then would probably still not reveal any more than the redacted report. Who, exactly, said this or that will need to be held back. Other material that may compromise other areas of investigation, intelligence sources etc. In the end the public will likely learn little more of the truth than we already know or suspect.

I understood it as a reference to Israel at the Gaza border.

The integrity of the office?? After Gulf of Tonkin, Watergate, Iran-Contra, Oval Office blowjobs, lies about WMD, and Trump?? Is this a joke?? Only two of the last 10 occupants of the position have had any integrity whatsoever. If the office ever had any innate integrity, it's 50 years past the point where it has disappeared.
I'm not claiming that such integrity exists, not within those who hold the office anyway. The administration will do what all administrations have done...deny, deny, deny.
There is a fairly credible running theory that Trump is vacating all these posts so he can appoint temporary heads who don't have to go through Senate confirmation.
They don't even need regular security clearances because their job is Congressional oversight as required by the Constitution.
Trump has already explored revoking security clearances of the House judiciary committee and his enemies as a strategy to avoid oversight. Wouldn't stop them from doing their jobs.
BTW the Treasury department and Steve Mnuchin have decided to aide the Trump cover up his taxes and are now breaking the law.
Instead, we have William Barr, the ultimate and sole arbitier of what the American people deserve to see and hear. And nevermind us, what the hell is the excuse for not handing over an unredacted report to House committee chairman?? They have the highest security clearances possible.
High security clearance is not a sufficient reason for the dissemination of the fruits of a grand jury investigation. The law relating to security clearance and the law relating to grand jury secrecy are two separate things, with separate and equally compelling justifications.
That said, grand jury secrecy can be undone.
- Someone could leak the report, and risk being discovered
- Someone could leak the report, and not worry about being discovered, openly committing a felony for the sake of patriotism
- The fruits of the investigation could be shared with another investigating body, by judicial order
- * The DOJ could investigate some of Trump's political enemies for "spying on him" or "abusing the FISA process," or some other such nonsense; if they want to use the criminal law for political vengeance, they might bring charges against someone like Christopher Steele or or James Comey or Peter Strzok or others. (I cannot see how an Attorney General would announce such an investigation unless he fully intended to bring charges against someone... unless the only purpose of such an announcement is merely to mollify his idiot boss, which sadly is a thing that happens a lot these days.) If a criminal case proceeds against someone and it relates to the Mueller investigation, the fruits of the investigation itself would almost certainly be relevant evidence in such a case, and the DOJ would likely have to waive grand jury secrecy in order to proceed. (I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of the federal grand jury law, but I suspect this would be the case.) If that happened, then anyone who has a copy of the report could release it without committing a crime.
Ultimately, the fact that the media keeps playing along with William Barr without even seeming to ENTERTAIN the idea that he might be acting in totally bad faith is just maddening. Today he said he believed Trump's campaign was spied on. When asked if he had evidence he essentially said "no, but I believe it happened". He wrote a memo long before he was ever nominated to AG that was for all intents and purposes a job application, in which he derided the very IDEA of the investigation existing in the first place. And the media keeps walking along as if this guy is still some kind of above board player. He isn't. He's a fixer. He did it in 1992, and he's doing it again now:
There is a fairly credible running theory that Trump is vacating all these posts so he can appoint temporary heads who don't have to go through Senate confirmation.
Yeah, I noticed something that I want to expand on. I first noticed that two of the Department Secretaries is Defense and Homeland Security, that made me investigate more.
A (current? And complete?) list of the cabinet-level positions who have acting heads include:
1. Department of Defense.
2. Department of Homeland Security.
3. Department of the Interior.
4. White House Chief of Staff.
5. The ambassador to the U.N.
6. Small Business Administration.
7. Office of Management and Budget.
Also the specific agencies having acting heads include:
1. FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).
2. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
3. FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
4. CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
5. EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission).
6. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).
7. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
8. USSS (United States Secret Service).
Yeah, these lists gives me the warm fuzzies.
Let's rearrange a little and explain some.
Security and personal access:
1. DoD. The department in charge of the military.
2. DHS. The department in charge of national internal security.
3. USSS (United States Secret Service), whose primary mission is the personal protection of the president, president's relatives, and visiting heads of state.
4. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), in charge of investigating, arresting, and/or deporting people who smuggle contraband or illegal aliens into the country.
5. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), the agency whose primary directive is management of emergencies and disasters.
6. Chief of Staff. The cabinet position in charge of the White House staff (including the person who IS in charge of U.S.-Puerto Rico relations instead the Department of Interior below) and who gets to decide who gets to see and meet with the President.
7. The ambassador to the U.N.
The "who gives a crap about that junk":
1. The head of the Small Business Administration, who loan small businesses money.
2. Office of Management and Budget, who create the Executive branch budget.
3. FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). The people who regulate ANYTHING to do with transportation in the air. Airports, airplanes, pilots, air traffic...
4. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration). The people charged with making sure that job environments are safe.
5. FDA (Food and Drug Administration). The people charged with making sure food and drugs are safe.
6. CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission). The people charged with making sure that NON-FOOD products are safe.
7. EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). The people charged with making sure that employees are not having their civil rights violated.
8. Department of Interior. The department in charge of natural resources and parks, Native American relations, and U.S. territories (minus Puerto Rico).
The first list are things of strong interest to have personal control over as an advantage. The second is a list of things to destroy.

Spot-on, and thanks for digging these all up. I didn't even know the list was this big. I mean, think about it. He HAS a Republican Senate, with the perhaps one of the most cynical bastards in US political history running the show in McConnell, and he STILL isn't even bothering to try get his appointments confirmed. Not because he can't, but because not doing so is just another power grab that can't be reversed. And who the hell is even talking about this?? Essentially no one. The article I posted about Israel talks about how it's democracy is rotting from the inside. The same thing is happening here. All you have to do is look.

Trumps the problem nominating nincompoops and criminals, the process is not the problem.
Show of hands as to who had actually heard anything about this story before this. And guesses as to how much national media play the fact that the son of a sheriff's deputy was torching black churches for the last two weeks. Because I'm guessing just above zilch. Besides the obvious issues here, I'm sure all the African-American citizens in this father's jurisdiction feel just PEACHY about the fact that a guy who could pull them over at any second of the day raised a son who is engaging in Klan tactics straight out of the 1960s. But, you know, it's black "culture" that has the problem. Also, ANOTHER Andrew Brevik disciple. Just like New Zealand. This time by way of infamous black metal murderer Varg Vikernes. If anyone wants a great example of what happens when a sub-culture runs completely out of control, look no farther than the Norwegian Black Metal scene, which devolved into a string of arson, suicides, and murder:
