I am reposting here this strange suggestion, that actually worked for me as a temporary but very effective fix:
"One thing that worked for me (I had a crash after pressing play with a reported Windows error which I think related to an ATI driver) was to start the game with iTunes open.
I know it does sound absurd, and that's what I thought when I read this suggestion on the forums, but as unlikely as it may seem, it worked for me after anything else failed."
Hope this will help them to fix this strange bug...!
Worked for a friend of mine as well. In addition, we moved the game from the Program Files (x86) directory and started it from ...Baldur's Gate\Data\00766\baldur.exe set in Vista SP1 compatibility mode and run as Administrator. In this case, all of that was necessary. Dell Precision M6500, Windows 7, ATI FirePro M7740.
I successfully downloaded the game using beamdog client. I have no idea why Overhaul made it's own client, which works much worse. I pre-loaded the first 1.7GB, but the last 100MB turned out to be too much for it. Beamdog client downloaded everything from scratch and did it faster than took Overhaul client to download remaining 100MB. I have no idea what all this pre-loading was for, apart from giving a clue to the team how not the release BG2:EE. Nevertheless, I managed to play an hour in the morning and I have to say that I love the new UI, journal and all other stuff. Great work! That's what I wanted to get from BG:EE.
@gabilturgh All I have is a beamdog folder under program files. There is no uninstall.exe anywhere in there. Should I have a Baldur's Gate folder under program files?
By the way, I think I finaly maneged to get it to run! I erased every BG file in my pc, and installed it again in a desktop folder...it did go past preload complete...gotta wait now.
@jmanrreis I have a program file folder called Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, that has a uninstall file, but you could look in the program manager at control panel and uninstall from there
I'm going to sit this one out for a month or two until the dust has settled. Not like I have a choice being on a Mac but I'll wait until a few patches have been made and the game runs smoothly. See you guys next year!
One thing everyone should try, and indeed this should be done when installing any new game is update your graphics drivers. you may not think this will help, that your issues have nothing to do with the graphics but most problems, even ones that seemingly are not due to graphics can be solved this way.
For example when I tried to play for the first time, I had random text overwriting random sections of the screen. Gibberish on some buttons, and when clicking buttons it would randomly crash for no reason, simply by clicking a button. I exited, updated the drivers and now the game plays like a charm. Other things being said about errors such as loud footsteps, laggy rendering, no sound, etc. etc. were also gone. Not saying this will fix your issues but you may not have tried it because you think it has nothing to do with graphics. Give it a try anyway, it may fix all your problems.
As a side note, remember to reboot after updating the drivers as the old drivers will still be used until you do.
I had downloaded the preload (both of them) prior to release with the stand alone and downloaded the last piece last night after which I loaded up the game and made a character then left him in Candlekeep and went to bed - turned the game on this morning and loaded my save and all appears fine - only problem is I won't get to play for more than an hour or so until Sunday...
"What's it gonna take to get a little action over here?" My character repeats as he stands in candlekeep idly.
Finally when I had overcome the heartbreaking news that the release would be postponed I put my feelings aside, excited for what was soon to come. The next obstacle was preloading the game, despite leaving my downloader on all day it was to no avail. Once again another obstacle was defeated and I began to anticipate the time to begin my adventure. Thwarted once more by the late start I sat diligently waiting, hoping, praying that the game would be prepared shortly. The moment arrived... I dove into my adventure as an archer, filled with delight to see what lay before me only to be foiled again!!!
My cursor dissapears when I access the inventory and I have played a total of 2 minutes and this has impeded the play of the entire game already.
So with that being said this time I ask you... What's it gonna take to get a little action over here?
The link should have been emailed to your preorder email account along with the beamdog client downloader.
I have it. My question though is if we lose the email for some reason or do not want to keep old emails laying around, why is the stand alone not being advertised on the forum or website as an option? It was for pre-orders but has since been removed.
Ok managed to get it loaded and working...I had to delete all the stuff I Pre-Downloaded and start from scratch with the link I got in the email. Once the download completed (about an hour or an hour and a half) I was able to click play and checked the tutorial out...no time to actuallly play during work hours but at least is is installed and apparently playable. The download should be available via link on the website so we dont have to keep email in perpetuity.
Okay, for everyone coming to this thread because of issues with gameplay let me help you out a bit so you don't have to dig like I did. If you're lagging here are your option: Update all your drivers ESPECIALLY if you have intel processors, make sure you are running with Nvidia and not intel if you have both, try downloading Opengl drivers and latest nvidia drivers, also you can try several .ini updates listed in the PC support thumb. If it's black or white screening or shutting down the general consensus seems to be turning off the 3d graphics or getting it to run by opening it in a windowed mode and not fullscreen. Just fyi not a single one of these worked for me, but hey lots of other people are up and running so give it a shot. Also Beamdog you're losing a big gig here, get a patch up quick, no matter how drastic.
Yesterday I tried both ways: I downloaded it with the BG:EE downloader (from 00:30 - to 00:41 CET), but the other way for my wife was just failing and freezing with BeamDog Client. Now we try it again, but the BeamDog Client is much worse - if it is till possible - it is freezing on the very beginning now: it is not even showing the Game, only the grey background and freezing. I don't understand why BeamDog released such a crap downloader at all.... Should we delete everything, and start again with the BG:EE direct downloader? Or is it just again a heavy load on the servers and it is still a pain to download the full 1,8 GB again? I am very disappointed with this "Enhanced Edition", and if we can't make it work today (play a multiplayer game together without Hamachi, etc.), then we will ask for a payback. Thanks for the understanding.
No, we can't pass through the starting page. Delete all, and then do it again with direct downloader? How is it working? Can we do this? Or if we selected the sh*tty BeamDog Client, then we can't go to the other later? Please help.
I deleted this f*cked-up-not-working DogDownloader crap, with all the 1,8 GM game pre-downloaded, and started again with the direct installer. That is working at least, very slow, but working. I don't think it will finish today. I don't understand why it can't detect the data what is already there, why I have to download it all again. Oh, I understand it off course: because it is "Enhanced". Thanks for not answering me in two days, too.
#sese79 ehhh you can copy data folder from beamdog delete beamdog past data folder to bgee instaler delete 766.beam and 766 status instaler will check the files and will work fine...
Same. No issues past the laptop (which was expected from the start). Been playing, saving, reloading, restarting, etc. Haven't had a single crash so far.
Few hiccups that the dev team are undoubtedly already aware of (the Help button tooltip displaying 'Rest,' for example). Some slight drop in graphical performance when there's a lot going on on-screen; casting web, then slaying several creatures, but it's minimal.
Apart from that, it couldn't really be better. Haven't had this much fun in a Forgotten Realms game since the original launched.
One thing I am a bit miffed over is that the experience appears to be set at 161000 (maximum level is 8-10 depending on class), I've edited the XPLEVEL and XPCAP files, but nothing seems to work. I managed a work around, just to see if it was the level that was hardcoded, it probably is at some point, but I've been able to get it up to level 20. It goes pear-shaped when it gives you some ability points (like in ToB) and no abilities to spend them on, so you can't actually level up. I assume that's why they set the maximum as 161000, don't know if that's a hardcoded value, though, haven't checked it out that much beyond trying to edit two files. But, really, how can I complain about that?
I get the start button but when i press it nothing happens. it starts to load but then nothing. i was just playing yesterday and don't know what happened. Here is my set up (its a dell laptop):
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333) System Manufacturer: Alienware System Model: M17xR3 BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 1.0 A09 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.2GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM Available OS Memory: 8140MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 11 Graphics: Intel® HD graphic family
p.s. i already tried baulder.exe but same thing happens. Any help is grateful.

I guess Ill have to go along with Drawnacrol on this.

So far so good for me... (Windows 7)
*Enough people are asking for fixes, so I have nothing to add.
