Latest mods?

Hi, getting ready to re-install and I really like to mod up my game.

I usually go here, http://baldur.cob-bg.pl/bg1ee-mody and then poke around in G3, SHS, etc. for new mod talent.

Is there a place where mods are viewable by date of release, or at least sortable that way? My last time through was January so I'm interested in what's new since then. I'm especially interested in Paladin & Cleric mods and those that bring my game as close to original AD&D, 1st, as possible. Thanks, CT

The WeiDU community really suffers from lacking a properly unified hub for hosting and keeping updates on content. Nobody's been capable of maintaining a truly accurate mod list by hand - even CoB, which you've posted, has inaccurate dates for mods, as I've updated several of my mods since the listed dates so whoever maintains it has clearly been away for some time. It's unfortunately still the closest thing to a complete mod list.

    Thanks for the feedback @AionZ

Yeah, the lack of update on CoB is on me (I'm maintaining that list). It's a painfully busy RL time for me and I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

It's still the best resource I have ever found for these. The effort you put into it is much appreciated. CT

There was a period when many mods at G3 were updated and this was a time were that list become seriously out of date. Apart of that there were several version updates by @AionZ, @subtledoctor and other modders. @Skitia made a couple of NPC mods that are not on the list (yet). So yeah, the list *is* indeed out of date, but I still think it could be useful. There are links to mod sites/forums on that list where you can easily find current versions (many are hosted at github). The problem may be to find new mods that are not on the list (like @Skitia's NPC's).

@Cahir Would be helpful or annoying to send you a PM every time I update one of my mods?

@Raduziel, nah, I'm updated in the sense that I visit Beamdog, G3, SHS and PPG forums pretty regularly. It's just I didn't have time to spend a day or two to update the list. And because of that it's becoming more and more out of date each day. Most time-consuming part is updating the links (after G3 site host change all links needs to be updated), but I'm trying to use link convention shared by @ALIEN here:
    https://github.com/Gibberlings3/modhub#url-examples.
The problem (for me) is that some modders use release (and/or prerelease) and some don't. In the latter case I need to link to master branch, which in some cases may lead to, let's say, beta releases. It's the link updating part that gives me a pause for several months now, because each link needs to be updated by hand to avoid linking to unauthorized versions (see Roxanne's EET versions cases). It would be much simpler to just link to master branch for all Github hosted mods, but it can be problematic when players start to report bugs from not officially released master branches.

EDIT: @Raduziel I see you started to use release branches at some point. It's great to see, I remember in case of your mods I needed to go inside .tp2 file to actually see which version number is the latest one :)

Sigh, yeah I need to update that list at some point. It would be a shame to leave it out of date after many hours I have spent on maintaining it.

@Raduziel I have updated all of your mods on both BGEE and BG2EE list. Download links direct always to the latest release, so unless you won't stop using release branches, the download section should be always up to date even if I will be in delay updating version numbers :)

I did not add Pfaug NPC yet, since he's NPC made strictly for SoD and AFAIK it doesn't work on clean BGEE, correct? If that's the case I may add it to BGEE section with the information that it works only for SoD part of the game.

Next step will be updating @AionZ's mods. @AionZ do you have SHS downloads of your mods up to date with github, or should I be careful with that? Also should I link to release versions or linking to master branch is OK too? I see the master branch is more up to day, but I'm not sure how official and stable those versions are.

@Cahir You can use new link format which doesn't need to be updated after the modder will switch from using only master branch to full releases/prereleses:
Spell Revisions get latest release or prerelease, if there is no release or prerelease then get the last commit from master branch
    http://lynxlynx.info/ie/modhub.php?Gibberlings3/SpellRevisions&ifeellucky

so if the modder first use only master, it will get master, if he switch to releases/prereleses the link will get release or prerelease

P.S. If you don't like 'ifeellucky' parameter name as much as I do, try to request change for it.
  • CahirCahir Member, Moderator, Translator (NDA) Posts: 2,819
@ALIEN ok what does this parameter get me for @AionZ mods? I got the feeling that the master branches are the proper up to date and most stable releases.

Take for example this mod https://github.com/ArtemiusI/Warlock, which as I understand currently is in version 1.0. But the latest release is 0.51. So, if I use "ifeellucky" parameter, download link will direct to 0.51 not 1.0 version, correct?

I am going to delete all my release versions tomorrow when I get out of bed. They’re outdated and useless and only serve to mislead people.

If that's the case, indeed you should remove releases. I suspect that making releases for so many mods was time consuming task?
  • RaduzielRaduziel Member Posts: 4,714
@Cahir Yup, I'm a big boy and now I use releases. I really appreciate your effort to maintain that list. Congratulations for a job well done.

As for Pfaug, yes, it is a SoD-only game. No need to add it to the list yet as the mod is quite incomplete - no banters at all and some in-game events are not scripted yet. Also I didn't have the time to do a SoD run to test it myself.

I believe that Pfaug will be read only by September.

Tiax GH link should be changed to: https://github.com/RoxanneSHS/TiaxEE
Probably some other links which contain "BigWorldProject" should be verified if they are stil at https://github.com/InfinityMods and links should be updated accordingly.

For updates, this is the goal of the Infinity Engine Modding News feed, a cross-community resource for modders to announce updates and can be incorporated anywhere via RSS.

Ah. Can anyone post mod updates there? I didn't know that existed.
Unlike the "Infinity Engine Modding News" at SHS, indeed you can create topic there.
It seems that is limited to G3 modders only. I missed this because I can create topic there. There is a FAQ but despite it's been available since 2004, I also I didn't know that the purpose of this is a 'cross-community resource for modders to announce updates'. Not a good indication that it's working to achieve it's goal.

I remember that modders complain that one of the unnecessary things to do is to 'write announcement at 3 boards' so I'm not a fan of such 'extra work' only to repeat what modder already did inside his own mod thread.

    I have an idea ...

It's always been cross-community--the SHS version is an incorporation of the RSS feed from G3, as is the one at Sorcerer's. I have asked @JuliusBorisov to incorporate it here, too, but no movement on it yet.

It used to be open to posting for any of the site admins, but as activity ratcheted down it's now open to anyone with the modder tag on G3 so yes, @subtledoctor , you can post (And if you're a modder lacking that tag, poke me.)

And we have asked the Vanilla about that, but all the changes to the forum are on hold till Axis & Allies launches, and not in the Early Access.

No, the links to Roxanne's versions need to be deleted. Tiax is from Kulyok, and the official mod version is EET compatible, as well.
No need to promote inofficial versions which are explicitely against the original author's wishes.

EDIT: Same for Amber, for Arath, for Dace, for Ilyos, for Nephele, and for the Sellswords.

If you want to know why I don't like such lists, this is the reason. I respect the work you put into this, but once such a list gets outdated as this one, it's best to hide it.

Yeah, I should probably start from mods that direct to Roxanne's github. When I added those links I was not aware that those versions were made against authors wishes and are generally considered as umauthorized. Now I'm more educated on this matter so yeah, will do shortly.

Also before anyone ask, I did not include Sandrah's Saga on the list, not because of the multiple alts controversy or that the mod content is being (mostly) crtiticized by players, but because it's EET only mod and those lists were made for BGEE and BG2EE (with color indication which mod is EET compatible).

@Cahir I edited my post above while you posted. A lot of mods have official EET versions now.

Sorry, I didn't remember that there was official updates for those mods, I've only wanted to indicate that all those mods are no longer inside "BigWorldProject>InfinityMods" Github organization. Links should be changed to official versions ofc.

@jastey I have changed links from Roxanne's versions to official EET compatible versions for following mods: Amber, Arath, Dace, Nephele, Ilyos, Tiax and The Sellswords. I have also updated versions of Reunion, Assassinations, Back to Brynnlaw, Kelsey and Keto to the current EET compatible ones.

Feel free to let me know if there are some more mods that I need to correct.

If you mean ability to use RSS feed with Vanilla Forums, then yes - it is possible. There's also this plugin to improve it, but it's a bit old: https://open.vanillaforums.com/addon/rssoptions-plugin
I agree with @CamDawg - this feed on this forum would be quite a cool thing.
