I would also concur that it would be better for spell you don't know in green... Either way, it's good but maybe better for the eyes (I am NOT complaining however! Adding this little (big for me) thing will save a lot of time when shopping!)

I don't know if it is related but at one point for no reason Jahiera was unable to cast her available spells (for some reason they went _greyed_ out during combat). Resting restored her spell casting access though.

Apart from the character selection hotkey thing, the latest build of the beta works like a dream so far. Highlighting spell scrolls already in the spellbook is an awesome feature.

It's very inconsistent with the rest of the game though, and personally I preferred when known scrolls weren't highlighted. The out of place green highlight gives me ticks.

The options in the game could already be expanded quite a bit, I think, and the highlighting of known scrolls is definitely a feature I would love to be able to turn off. :)

I'm seeing several people posting with the same opinion as me about the green higlight, as well as posts with new and possibly better ideas for this and other issues. I've started a Feature Requests thread here about expanding the options in the game.

If changes to the options in the game were to be done, players would hopefully be more free to decide for themselves which new features to use and not use.

I am for this change. However, shouldn't UNLEARNED spells have other color than green? I like violet:P Seriously though, green just doesn't match with something negative.

I much more prefer the color for the spells that you DON'T know ^^

I think I'd prefer a border color to shading the whole thing if possible, but otherwise just wanted to support the idea of changing which spells the color indicates.

The green spell scroll idea is really awesome

Alright people, make way - best idea since the improved stacking behavior coming through!

What if spells you DIDN'T know were highlighted in green, INSTEAD of spells you ALREADY know?

That way, your inventory would look more like THIS toward the middle-end of the game (because you just know you're gonna need those scrolls sometime)

    Instead of THIS?

So, spells that can't be learned by the character should be highlighted in red.

While I (thankfully) am not color blind, as someone else pointed out elsewhere, green isn't exactly a real good choice for those who are. Can't we pick a color that would be less confusing for those who are? Also, I agree that only unknown spell scrolls should be highlighted. I like the suggestion @ChorazyGlus gave of a purple-ish color.

I'm in favor of making the green less opaque, but if they change the color to something else for colorblind people, I wouldn't mind. We're used to only seeing blue and red for icon backgrounds so it may take a while for us to adjust to seeing a brand new color for scrolls you haven't written into your spellbook.

I, too, am in favor for colourtagging only spells already learned and to make it (dark) purpleish and a bit opaque. For the people who have a hard time seeing green and so that it doesn't sting the eyes as much.

Also, make it optional if possible.

I think Green is a good color since we have both blue/red...making it a bit more transparent would be the best compromise I guess

Idea: Make scrolls from spells you don't know greyscale. This should be noticable for anyone.

Actually, red is already in use for scrolls that specialist mages can't learn/use because of the "opposition schools" system.
So I'd say purple or yellow for scrolls that CAN be scribed is the best option.

    I'd go with yellow.

I've also got another idea. Why not just the blue tint already in use for unidentified items? After all, if the mage doesn't know that spell, it would make sense, wouldn't it? He should study the scroll to learn what it's about. And the color would go away when the spell has been learnt.

    @alnair
I see where you're going with that, but I think the blue color shouldn't have two meanings. I just think that a new color should be used instead or make the green more transparent.

If we could get someone in here who is proficient enough with Photoshop to change the icon's background color into different varieties, we could put this up to a poll and see which color is the favorite or fits the best.

@Flashburn: Good idea... However, with my graphical expertise, I cannot be of any help...

Now, for my "latest" beta report... The "after ambush scene" (where you meet Imoen) is ok now, the default position is low enough to see everything and everyone, good job! I would also consider changing the 932 color (or tint) from spell you know in "color x" to spell you don't know in "color x". I'll try to post a poll on what color people want but I also think that the grey used is a little slimy! But, if it was for spells you don't know, it might not matter much (for me anyway).

Note: Also, as mentioned in another post, the boo will miss you screen when pressing alt-f4 might be a little too much... Or at least, make the screen appear in the foreground, not the background...

Guys is there a rough ETA on this patch going live?? I can't wait to start a game already :D

the purple can make it hard to see the scroll icon. The yellow looks good. The other two, teal and green, I'm not crazy about.
  • RedGuardRedGuard Member Posts: 672
Purple could be a bit less harsh, maybe a deeper purple. Certainly less pinkish. The teal is fine to me, but I'm not fond of the yellow or green personally.
