I've always wondered how many hits they actually get from such spam. I mean, who actually clicks that crap? Obviosuly people do, otherwise spam would have died out by now. But when there's about 50 extremely similar threads about indian love doctors in the same forum, even someone still in their internet infancy must get their alarm bells triggered, right?

If they send 1000000 messages and have a 0,01% response it still gives a good profit.

Have to wonder if that's true, considering the hardware, software and internet that they have to pay for to send out the 1000000 messages...

    oh well, must be

Usually, they don't own the machines, nor pay for the electricity nor bandwidth, of the machines that are sending the spam on their behalf - one of the many tasks given to machines compromised in a bot-net.

    ah of course
