...I never thought I would play through the entirety of BG1 and Siege of Dragonspear with a Berserker/Cleric dual class with 5 pips in axes, before realising a few hours into BG2 that the build can't actually use axes once the berserker powers come back...
....I never thought I would get an internet connection at home just so that I could find out where the bloody bandit camp was (it was a long time ago).
...I never thought I could ever play a backstabbing thief using a quarterstaff, I mean where is the logic!? Fast forward almost 2 decades and my favorite backstabbing weapon is of course the quarterstaff...

I think the logic is that you sneak up behind them and clobber them over the head. Of course, by that logic, you should also be able to use a club or mace. "Sneak attack" makes more sense than calling it "backstab."
I never thought I would have as much fun discussing the game on a game forum as I have actually playing the game.
I never thought that playing with a rogue-heavy party would be that much fun. I had a run with a charname Bounty Hunter, Vynd (assassin npc mod), Eldoth, Montaron and Tiax, and boy I had a blast. It's in this run that I understood how effective thieves and bards could be.
To complete what I just said : I never thought that I would use Eldoth as a melee tank, and find out how effective he can really be in this role.
The first time I played Baldur's Gate I never thought I would end up making friends with so many dedicated BG fans as I've done here, with you, ladies and gentlemen.
I never thought there were "other people" who enjoyed this game as much as me.
No internet back in the day and for quite some time, never ever played PNP (still haven't), nobody I know plays RPG. I remember finally getting the internet some years back and finding a BG site. Gobsmacked, spent hours just reading walkthroughs ect. can't believe how much I'd missed.
People were still playing this game that had achieved almost a mythical place in my imagination because for quite a few years I didn't even have a computer and the old discs wouldn't work when I did get one. Still got the discs though and the box/booklet/map.
I never thought that playing Pillars of Eternity I'd say that BG's spiritual successor is inferior in almost every aspect. It's decent game, but leagues behind BG saga IMHO.
I never thought anything could bring an introverted ol fart of a loner like myself to join and participate in a social forum while playing BG. No twitter, facebook, etc.,etc, for me, and it took guts, but BG mods did. Can BG change the nature of a man (at least a little)?

I think that just might be the best thing I've ever read on these boards.

I'll say this though, it's probably a very good thing that I didn't make one ten years ago.
