I have decided that this thread does not deserve to die - so I have grabbed my crash trolly and applied the paddles. This may or may not succeed but lets give it a go.
I believe mine is pretty self-explanatory: argent, under a chief embattled sable, a fox rampant sable! ;-)
Seriously though...of the many internet aliai I've used, "fox" has featured rather prominently, as I have something of a soft spot for them (probably due to them having, until recently, been hunted by posh country folk merely for the fun of watching dogs rip them to shreds - a practice I have always opposed). One of my other monikers (and also my Steam name) is Suburban Fox, which is from a computer game I used to play on a school computer. I therefore chose a fox rampant as my logo.
The ever seeing eye of Sauron sees all, know that and be judged. This is Sauron in Mordor. I like Tolkien's Middle Earth and I like the bad guys in general. Need to find a cool image of Melker.
I love bards, and I do a bit of singing, so I figured, why not pick a bard avatar? (And while I can't play the fiddle worth poop, I've always dreamed that I could... Perhaps I'll learn someday.)
Some folks change portraits so frequently, that their previos explanations on the first pages of this thread make no sense But it's fine! Changing portraits is fun!
My current portrait is the picture of Miyamoto Musashi, who is widely considered to be one of Japan's greatest swordsmen. He's also a philosopher. Musashi is famous for his duels and for authoring The Book of Five Rings, in which he details the principles and practices for his self-taught dual sword wielding style. After his death, many conflicting accounts of his life were made and romanticized into modern fiction.
This portrait is from Nobunaga's Ambition game series, that offers many other wonderful asian portraits, suitable for BG as well.
I was pretty tired, was bored and had to take a photo in my bath... because i like my bath. Grey photos are cool because they always leave room for imagination and are not so intrusive to the viewer. I dont like portraits of people in color realy that are so fake. I also dont like to smile stupidly into the lens just because others do or believe it´s a common thing. You know... when you meet someone in a club (drunk or not doesnt matter) and once enlightened around the next morning dont you wished that person would have been more natural.... same with pictures imo. So better to have something that represents you in an average way
@Nonnahswriter I can put a santa hat on that one too when we get to Yuletide. Your current picture would be even more fitting!
And since I'm here I guess I'll explain my avatar. I can't remember where I found it originally but I thought it was badass and decided to use it. About a year ago I discovered the magic of Google's reverse image search and found out that it's actually Ultimate Thor from the Ultimate Marvel comicbook series. He's the coolest avenger and also Iron Man sucks because he's just some guy in a metal suit.
Well, my current pic is pretty self explanatory. This is me on top of Mt. Elbert, the tallest mountain in Colorado(not that that's much to brag about, but it seems to get a better reaction than 5'th highest mountain in Colorado that you've never heard of but it's really far harder of a hike than this one" and the view from the top of Blanca was this, which doesn't help.) With Hobbes, my stuffed tiger and inseparable companion since birth. Anyway, that's not interesting. This is my usually picture:
The inspiration and motivation for this are quite transparent as well. I did it myself, at first as a picture of me, then as a terrible paint-over with a free app on my phone, then as a terrible paint-over with an expensive app on my iPad, and finally as a passable paint-over I felt comfortable using. I don't really remember why I made it, I was never into that kind of thing, but it must have been I joined. I think it was cause there where so many Edwin pics back then, and I didn't want to be just another Edwin, but I also wanted to be Edwin. The number of Edwin pics seems to have dwindled. It's under constant fiddling and editing, but generally I think it's probably my best drawing.
I started out with generic Boo, but I have changed quite regularly.
I later on got a hat from my boy @Flashburn last Christmas. That was awesome.
Then I got a hamster hanging from a tree.
Then I got that hamster hanging from a tree with legionnaire armor, much to the delight of @Metalloman. I am a Roma supporter in football, so I thought it was extra fitting.
#bhaaler
Later on I got some cool buff spells from @KidCarnival to add to my pic and make Boo an even more formidable opponent of evil, injustice and Justin Bieber
"Protection from Broccoli" mad OP to be honest tho
Then UConn was playing in the NCAA tournament, and I switched to a Husky mascot for like, one second, but the outrage was more than I can handle so I switched back... AFTER THEY WON!!!!!! So I guess it served its purpose ;p Heck... @Troodon80 even took the time to put a hamster on the Husky's shoulder (Minsc needed a summer job, no?)
That was just in time for Flashburn to give me what @CrevsDaak refers to as "Imoen Playboy Bunny Ears" during the Easter season
I then had a short lived rap career, using the KIA hamsters, but my first single #HarpSoHard flopped, and people didn't like it, so I switched back to the legionnaire hamster of justice.
Then I heard that Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition was to be released, and I realized that I needed to get used to the cold weather, so I started training. Found me a nice picture and added in a little speech bubble.
So here we are.
My "default" is probably the buffed up Legionnaire, though until I complete Icewind Dale EE I will probably remain with the brrrrrr picture. My attempts at branching out into non-hamster territory were all met with backlash, so ( expect some sort of Boo-related themes to be present in my next avatars. Would be interesting to see what happens if they release Planescape Torment: Enhanced Edition...
My picture was taken the day I swore my oath to Helm, and was made a paladin. Because I'm fair and just, all my buffs are visible. My foes can enter battle fully informed.
Protection from Cholesterol Avian Radiance Greater Facepalm Protection from Broccoli Protection from Bullshit: Religious Babble Protection from Fruitcake
And in the red corner, a permanent debuff status, Charm Failure: Ornamental Fish.
The Juggernaut is my favorite Marvel character, not because he's especially well-written, but because his powers and fighting style appeal to me. In video games, I like to hit hard, take hits like a champ, and always liberally use any kind of charging/momentum mechanic whenever possible, and if I take advantage of magic it's usually to augment those aforementioned activities. My icon is the result of Juggernaut picking up a cursed Asgardian hammer and becoming Kurth, Breaker of Stone. I mean, what's more awesome than the Juggmeister? The Juggmeister empowered by Asgardian magic, that's what!
This is a symbol for alchemy, which I thought was fitting being a brewer by trade and brewers were considered to be alchemists in the Middle Ages (or thereabouts). We even have our own patron saint - St. Augustine of Hippo. Worryingly though, at about the same time as alchemists were treated with some respect, epileptics were considered to be possessed by the devil and consequently burnt at the stake, so as an epileptic brewer I would presumably have been burnt alive with great courtesy (no wonder I feel some affinity for Viconia).
Many years ago I was watching VH1 Classic's "Metal Mania" retro video show, and saw the most ridiculous and at the same time awesome video I had seen in many moons:
The band is Grim Reaper, and if this isn't the prototype for a 80s metal band steeped in 2nd Edition Advanced D&D I don't know what is. My avatar is the album cover from the LP with the above title song.
When I first signed up for the forums I kept the original avatar for quite awhile:
Then I decided it would be better if I had something more BG-ish. So, since I'm a fan of a certain holy sword I grabbed this off the net:
But I didn't like the outline box and I wanted the blade longer so I fiddled around with an image editor to get this:
Last Christmas everyone was doing the santa hat thing so I thought I'd try it out too and ended up with:
Now that a new year is here, and armed with my new image editing "skills," I decided to rotate the original image and again extend the blade a bit. Sadly, it looked a bit off so I cut the image in half, grabbed the better half, mirror imaged it, extended the hilt, and combined to create the blade you see below:
sometimes I take a stupid amount of screenshots for no reason while playing a game. in this case though the screenshots were to make a comparison between a bunch of versions of the same character to decide which I liked best with a few different shots. after that I had realized christmas passed and I needed to remove my santa hat on my dark souls pic and decided that I should start using a picture of whatever PC i am using in whatever game I am playing at the time.

I found the link to this thread in the one about names - http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/34249/whats-the-story-behind-your-screen-name#latest It is a really interesting read - sometimes enlightening and at other times bloody hilarious when someone has changed their pic.
My avatar shows just how lacking in modesty I am. This is one of my own photmanips, and probably one of the best I ever did (she said oh so modestly)
Full version of the pic is here http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/33012/liriel-drowess-mage-cleric#latest

Originally I used this pick found here on the D&D wiki: http://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Bard,_Tome_(3.5e_Class)
With the announcement of Icewind Dale EE, I've adapted a snowy version found in "LadyRhian's Too many pictures for any thread!" ...thread.
And of course there's this treasure that should resurface come Christmas time!
Santa Hat done by @Flashburn.

Edit: or maybe forever...
It's only a shame that I didn't take this picture back when my hair was closer to his length:

Also, I've been keeping the same samurai-like hair IRL as well. :P
