    @Cuv:

    1. Given that the holdup is due to your current workload, have you considered utilizing other testers and modders on this forum? The BG1 NPC Project has made considerable progress in recent weeks thanks to the efforts of @AstroBryGuy, @Isaya and @Shin, among others - I doubt you'd have any trouble finding volunteers to help move "Ascension" along.

    2. I'd like to make a feature request: since the mod provides variant epilogues for characters with divergent paths in the game (Viconia and Sarevok), would be it possible to create

a third epilogue for Dorn, based on whether or not he remains a blackguard in ToB? Maybe @AndrewFoley or @LiamEsler would have some ideas for that?

1.The BP version of Ascension is fully functional and I am in contact with Horred the Plague regularly. He is keeping it up-to-date. As you say, I am swamped.

    2. That is a good idea, will run it by the people who would have say in such a thing.

@Cuv: Could you clarify your first response? You've said that while BP-Ascension is functional, it lacks EE-specific features that you were planning to implement; has Horred added these features? Does this mean you've given up your version altogether?

Thanks for passing along the request.

I'm got BP-Ascension installed and am on the final battle. I'm using the BP AI as well, including the demons/devils component. I've lilled Irenicus and Bodhi but think I'm running into bugs with the pools and the demons that spawn. Wondering if anyone else has come across this.

When fighting the demons that spawn from the pool, the disappear after casting Gate. And I don't mean go invisible, they just disappear. Combat log does not state that the demon has died. True Sight doesn't reveal anything. After killing whoever remains, I can't save. I keep getting the "cannot save... there are monsters about". However, I am able to click on the pool the second time and receive the new Bhaalspawn powers plus healing.

But there's another problem - the spells I used aren't being re-memorised after I click the pool the second time. As I can't rest, there is no way of memorising spells. Pretty sure this isn't meant to happen.

Weidu log attached. Thanks for any tips on how to resolve this.

@shawne I was going to further split it up into more subcomponents for those people that don't like certain features or just want the story and no hard battles... but honestly you can always turn down the difficulty slider. I doubt that I will have time to do that any time soon now. Lot's of cool stuff coming as you have noticed in some of the speculation threads, so I am swamped still.

Apart from that the BP version should be pretty close to what I had planned... plus it already has fixed AI that I was going to redo. The other specific to EE features can still hopefully come later - better banter with the new NPC's that is Ascension specific (but not written yet.. was gonna get @LiamEsler to help with that at some point). Haven't given up, but will likely just build from Horred's BP version and work from that at this point. If someone wants to help with the further splitting of the components with tp2/script work... that would certainly move things along. But please do NOT offer to help write new NPC dlg, being on-the-team I would want someone on the inside who might have time to do it or not do it at all.

Things I had planned to do/split out further:
    1. Make Imoen powers optional -
    2. Sarevok's sword optional
    3. Balthazar encounter optional, but also offer Improved Balthazar IF you decline Balth component and add that improved battle back into the optional section. For those that don't know, there was an Improved Bathazar battle mod, but it was rolled into Ascension when he became joinable.
    4. Make Irenicus section optional also for those that find battles too hard.
    5. Add more difficulty settings and tweaks to the final fight scripts so that people could still play on Core, but get the option of not-quite-so-hard final fight.
    6. Tweak epilogues (not the writing).
    7. Offer alternate Improved Abazigal which was tougher. (an early beta version before balancing)

The biggest complaint here on the forums was that Ascension is too hard (I do not agree, there are plenty of tactics and new powers to use, but meh). So I was planning to offer an optional lighter end fight - that could take months just for the scripts, and now that we have a new engine function to change scripts, it wouldn't be too hard to change them out even mid battle.

So anyway... a lot of scripting and code work that is pretty much back end. I don't post much, so don't expect me to answer questions on the above quickly. The whole concept of this thread was on my own time, so anything I have said is not an official position/promise in any way, shape or form... it is just me alone wanting to help out the community and modding so don't take anything I have said as any kind of promise (apart from when I DID promise originally, sorry) , also no need to go looking at it for cryptic messages (I am not that bright ). Dang... I forgot how long-winded I can be. Will just stop writing. heh

Thank you for making these optional and therefore not affecting us who enjoy playing the game on a harder difficulty

I'm sorry - is the EE compatibile version of Ascension out already or not yet?

You should just use Big Picture's (BP) version of the Ascension mod. It's a megamod containing many smaller mods, and one of those is Ascension. It works on EE and you can just choose not to install the rest of the components, if you don't want them.

How stable is the BP Ascension + BG2EE combo?

    @TvrtkoSvrdlar‌
There doesn't seem to be any major problems, to the best of my knowledge.

I have BG2EE w/TOB on my Mac, and I cannot install Ascension. It tells me that Data/25Dialog.bif is not present and thus Ascension cannot be installed, but when I look in Data/ I find it perfectly, just sitting there. Is there a workaround? Am I missing something?

    Thanks, I figured it out!

Is the BP Ascension mod compatible with the Redemption mod? I know the latter doesn't work without the first, but does this version of Ascension work well with it?

Does SCS have any problems with Ascension? Slightly off topic aswel but is the SCS Sendai game breaker sorted yet? Don't wanna start BG2 without it but can't handle the thought of my game getting broke :(

While we wait for this, does anyone know if there is a way to just install BP Ascension without installing any of the other BP components?
  • shawneshawne Member Posts: 3,239
@Grayp: It can be done - just copy BP to the game directory, unpack and install. You'll need the Core Component, then say no to everything except Ascension. Keep in mind that there's no guarantee of full compatibility, but so far that's the only version that works.

Does SCS work with Ascension as well, or are they mutually exclusive?
  • shawneshawne Member Posts: 3,239
@Cuv: All that said, is there any progress/update you'd be willing to share with us? Even if it's just conceptual or planned, new information or a rough idea of where the mod currently stands would be most welcome - and I'm sure you won't be lacking in beta-testing volunteers when the time comes...

Does SCS work with Ascension as well, or are they mutually exclusive?

There were reports that the combination of the two causes glitches in ToB content - the most common problem being Sendai's death script not triggering. But I think that problem was solved somewhere on this forum with an override file...

To anyone wondering about the current state of BP ascension.
I played BG2 the 1998 edition with it, not the EE edition.
On my install, not only BP messed up wheels of prophecy but also all the custom npc mod. The only custom npc mod that worked properly was only a mod I was betatesting and had to be installed amongst the last.

Meh, all that tells me is that BP-Ascension doesn't play well with others. I feel like that may be outside the purview of the mod itself; the question is whether it works on its own merits, not whether it functions alongside a dozen other mods.

BP-Ascension was designed to patch stuff instead of simply replacing it like the original Ascension, so I would say that compatibility with other mods was one of the main goals.

That said, the new version of Ascension from @Cuv will also patch stuff, if I'm not mistaken.

That's peculiar, I've never had BP-Ascension break mods before.

So, here's some questions. What's your install order? Are you using BWP? If so, what setting of BWP do you have it on (Expert, Tactics, or Recommended)? If you didn't use BWP, did you at least use the installation order guide?

I'm escorting this topic since last november, and I am eagerly awaiting Cuv's Ascension Mod, that would be compatible with EE. But while I'm already in Chapter 4 of my first playthrough of Shadows of Amn, I'm concerned that Cuv's mod will not be finished when I reach Throne of Bhaal.

I just wanted to play ToB with Ascension, since it seems to be the adequated way to play the last arc of this incredible story (It was originally developed by the former designer director of the expansion, wasn't it?)

So, this BP Ascension that you all are talking about, is it identical to the original Ascension?
Also, I just intend to play it vanilla, no other mods installed. Will I suffer from glitches, bugs or any type of incompability with Enhanced Edition?

I'd appreciate if any good soul could enlighten this matter for me.
