@Tresset, LOL. Ah yes, the standard confusion. I succumbed, I admit. I guess those "hamsters" are a lot bigger than they should be, and therefore, guinea pigs.
However, this is a hamster:
And this is a guinea pig:
In fairness to @Anduin 's meme, the difference in size is very hard to spot, perspective-wise in a zoomed out image. The main difference absent perspective of size is the facial features, with hamsters being "slimmer" than the guinea "pigs", who look very "fat" by comparison.
In a zoomed-out perspective, I think it is very easy to see why many memes constructed with Minsc and Boo in mind confuse the two species. It might even be hard to tell the two apart in a zoomed-in perspective.
And, in a tribute to the first person who did this to me early in the history of this thread, in its original, now-closed incarnation:
That's meant in a loving and humorous way, since somebody did that to me very early in this thread's, and this forum's, history, and that person kind of taught me a lesson about not correcting memes.
@Jenzafar , that's the most creative meme I've seen in a long time! Also, kudos for knowing how to conjugate the verb "to have" in Elizabethan English.
"I have, thou hast, he hath, we have, ye have, they have."
People who incorrectly try to use Elizabethan or Shakespearean English in memes or other fantasy related activities, such as writing fan fiction, or Renaissance reenactment, (I'm looking at *you*, Dynaheir's writers), are one of my pet peeves.
I don't say it much, because most internet posters don't take kindly to having it pointed out. In fact, on one of the first pages of this very thread's previous version, I stand accused of giving Spiderman cancer, because I pointed out that somebody tried to make a meme using Elizabethan English without bothering to learn the conjugations of verbs and declensions of pronouns.
"Dynaheir in Baldur's Gate. Ye gods, Dynaheir in Baldur's Gate. Her death before the start of Baldur's Gate II was no doubt cause for much rejoicing among anyone who can even remotely speak English. Among other things, she used "thy" as an all-around 2nd person pronoun, and "thee" for a 1st person pronoun! All this despite being some kind of cultural mashup of Middle Eastern and Russian, or something like that."
@BelgarathMTH Heh, @Anduin didn't say they were hamsters though... Only that they were "Boo's friends".
As an animal expert I tend to pick up on subtle differences with animals that other people would miss. I also enjoy making sure that everyone knows what is what when it comes to animals. Whether People choose to take the opportunity to learn something from this or just choose to get uppity that I corrected them is their choice. If they tend to make the latter choice in such situations they may have a hard time on these forums.
@Tresset, thank you for making me think to be more sensitive to rodent lovers everywhere about not confusing the various indivudals of their species and phyla. All hamsters do *not* look alike, all guinea pigs do *not* look alike, all rats do *not* look alike, all mice do *not* look alike, all squirrels do *not* look alike, etc., etc.
This fact is especially true when one considers the indestructible and invulnerable Great Squirrel of Easthaven in Icewind Dale. No other rodent could possibly compare to its deity, and surely Baervon's companion Chiktikka Fastpaws Himself, often invoked by our beloved maimed avariel Aerie, must bestow blessings upon both the Great Squirrel of Easthaven and the deific rodent Boo, just as Boo bestows His mighty blessings upon Minsc.
So, I take this to mean that Boo smites those who make graven images of false guinea pigs?
Please forgive me my jests, as they are all meant in the spirit of this thread - they are from my most cryptic and rarely seen sense of humor and playfulness, especially intensified when they are not understood.
@Tresset, @BelgarathMTH, Nowhere does it say that our favorite miniature giant space hamster can't have guinnee pigs as friends, right?
That's very insensitive of you, didn't you know that there was a long lasting war between the hamster and the guinea pig kingdom?! The guinea pigs invaded their country and enslaved all of hamster kind! Guinea pigs are indeed and truly *pigs*! FREE THE HAMSTERS!
As someone who's owned 3 different pigs, I was riproaring to point this out. Seriously, pigs don't get enough recognition! They're always lumped in with rodents when they're part of different suborders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinea_pig). But mostly it's because I wuved my wittle piggies.
I would've loved to have a guinea pig familiar but I know it's combat role would mostly be: *sits in corner like a lump* *ignores mage's commands* *watches party die* *pees*
