@Adul No, I always thought that Tethtoril didn't know about Koveras being there until the Throne leaders got killed. When you ask him who Koveras is he lets you know that it is Sarevok spelled backwards. Ulraunt is the real slowpoke because he never figures this out.
Not the best strategy there, evidently. I mean, everyone acts like it's a permanent solulution in the game, but in 5e Bhaal comes back. It didn't work. They get points for trying, at least.
Either that, or it is because Irenicus takes over Spellhold and they stop receiving any word from the place. There is even the chance that they know something has gone wrong in the prison, and rather than adding more dangerous wizards to it, they'd rather kill deviants until the situation gets sorted out.
@Buttercheese Your poem brought back some good memories, especially that last verse you can't take my Boo from me. In fact I can definitely see that as an alternative lyrics to a damn good song.

This and they attack Irenicus first. They would have killed him on the spot as well but is power was too immense. He willfully turned himself in to take over Spellhold
