He is needlessly verbose. But he's surprisingly charming while being needlessly verbose, and he definitely knows how to flatter people. Let's just say I can definitely see what Aerie might see in him, and I'm not surprised there's a romance mod for him (though I am surprised it's not bi, as Haer'Dalis clearly is) even though I'd probably end up kicking him and his Sinker philosophies to the curb just like Aerie does.
I just take upbridge with the idea that Haer'Dalis 'ruined all men' for her. Aerie isn't that delicate; she's idealistic and naive and occasionally a bit silly, but girlfriend has a core of steel when she wants to. Sure, she'll probably take time- this was her first major relationship, he wasn't the man she thought he was, and breakups always suck even if you're the one doing the breaking up- but I think she'll eventually find a man she can love and be with (and if you play with a certain NPC mod installed, in ToB she does). Haer'Dalis will just become a name that will make her 'sigh', think of the days when she was younger and foolisher or maybe even wonder what might have been if both of them had been more mature (both Haer'Dalis and Aerie act rather young for their ages, I think- honestly, if they seriously talked to each other and Haer'Dalis opened up a bit more while Aerie acted a bit less naive, they might have been able to work something out), and then go on proudly with the man she's now with. (Not that I'm saying Aerie needs a man in her life! I'm sure she can stand up proud and fine without one.)

That was a bad joke as well. I'm sure a lot of us have heard this kind of thing in TV shows and possibly in real life where it's claimed that a bad relationship causes a woman to turn, which is obviously ridiculous.
I think Aerie finds him attractive, but doesn't imagine there's much chance of anything happening there; she thinks he's just being nice, so is surprised to find he actually has feelings for her. She gives it a go, but in the end just decided that they're outlook and philosophy on life is just too different. She believes that life is striving to make yourself better. He believes in the inevitability of decay. One of them would have to change, and it doesn't seem like either is willing to. It was doomed, as Xan would say. But it doesn't seem like there are any lasting bad feelings; I think she's at least grateful that he's helped her experience new things as well as become more confident, and she's a stronger person now than she was before.
Saemon Havarian reminds me of Jack Sparrow except even more of a bastard. First time my friend beat this game, he said that he killed Saemon when fleeing. It was worth a laugh. But yeah I dont really hate any of the characters. They all are great.
I still wont user characters like Alora and Yeslick with poor stats. And I have beaten the games each 11 times and a wizard has NEVER been among the party I beat it with
Edit-How is noober annoying? If you know that you gain no penalty for killing him and have run across him at least once, he is only annoying 1 playthrough. The next 1000 playthroughs revolve around minsc shanking him while yelling butt kicking for goodness! Hypocrisy?

Clicking him over and over and over to initiate dialogue with him over and over and over to get the xp he gives when he's all out of stuff to say feels like a grindy chore. Grindy chores are annoying.
I know most people seem to hate Anomen but honestly for me in terms of companion characters it's definately Aerie. Followed VERY VERY closely by Jaheira.
Jaheira being condescending can get annoying at times. Most of Aerie's 'annoying' moments are only if you persist in romancing her, but even then she stops after having cried it all out and becomes very positive again. Whereas Anomen is a jerk from the moment you meet him, although he gets better eventually, possibly.
Lilarcor never gets better though. But then sentient swords don't really gain much life experience, other than the end part of it, the killing. Not many other prospects or things to talk about really.

He even has a line going something like "What do you expect from me anyway? I'm a -sword-!" iirc. He's still the most wise and insightful talking sword I can think of though.

Sentient swords are kind of a cruel joke really. They become aware, start asking questions like 'why am I here? What is love? What's the meaning of life?' And then it's, yeah... stab, stab, chop, kill. That's pretty much all there is.
i wish I actually knew where the idea of Jaheira being condescending comes from. i actually never got that vibe out of her. she is willing to give her opinions, but she always reminds you the choice is ultimately yours and I like characters who tell you where they stand. even when you disagree she basically says "i hope you made the right choice" whereas many other NPCs are "you idiot you made a terrible choice". i won't blame her for being mad during the whole bandit thing either considering all the stress in that situation and basically putting you or her in danger. I understand some people don't like her romance due to the whole khalid thing but I just don't see her being annoying or condescending. i think she was actually very well made, and the romance could've been better if they could have stretched the game to take place over a longer period of time.
also I wish I could change my vote to other and make it neeber. you meet noober first and get through it or kill him, then you meet neeber and it becomes unbearable.
I'd say she's more condescending in the first game than the second. With dialogue quotes like "How long must we wait here!? Things stir to the south as we sit!" and "The city is a blight on the landscape; better to have let the land grow wild!" Well... She certainly isn't shy to shout her opinions, and she isn't always considerate about the whole thing.
She also gets over Gorion's death pretty quick too and puts you right to work with helping Nashkel right afterwards, while you're (supposedly) still grieving his loss. BG1 Jaheira always struck me as tough, confident, intelligent, and also very cold.
But By the time you finish the first game and start up the second, you've spent so much time getting to know her, she's warmed up to you a little. You defeated Sarevok and saved the Sword Coast, so you've kinda proven yourself to be a capable adult in her eyes. Sometimes her more stern personality comes out when she's under stress, but she's generally much nicer in BG2 than in BG1.
This is, of course, my interpretation of the character, and all a matter of opinion. :P To each their own.

She does still spend a lot of time directing you on what to do and where to go and filling you in on things you already knew or just heard. She tends to come across as being a teacher or mother figure in the group, which is understandable I suppose since she has been at this longer than CHARNAME and many of the other NPC's.

Well if that wait quote is condescending I would say most of the NPCs are all like that. The second I also find annoying but rather because it seems OOC. I don't think she really hates civilization so much as prefers nature, and wouldn't be so aggressive about a city's existence.
The nashkel part is kind of a reminder to me this is a game. Xzar/Monty and Jaheira/Khalid were made to lead you toward your first objective, and I understand they needed that done. It bothers me young charname would just pick up adventuring just like that and follow these groups on their mission, but what else would they have done?
I would certainly agree on her traits, and that is what I love about the character. I like females in games that go against the real life perception that sticks out in Aerie and I hate. I don't like Aerie or Liara in Mass effect for both having that vibe where I find them as a damsel in distress and will rather appreciate the characters who show me quick that they know what they are doing and can defend themself, like Jaheira and her experience or countering Liara I prefer Tali who defended herself in the alley. I doubt she needed rescuing.
And yes, she does have a stern side under stress, but then I think we all do. That is when we say things we don't want to and just come across wrong. I will never really blame her because under stress I know I am a different person. I would say it is realistic to be irrational on my choice with the bandits or in denial about the whole Harper thing and it made her feel more real.
Just my own little thoughts. I see where u r getting at for some, but some feel just part of being a game or I just differ in opinion I guess.

In the original, noober was significantly more annoying. He charged at you and didn't wait for you to initiate conversation. An he would keep interrupting you continuously for like 10 minutes. I swear when it first happened, I swore it was a bug, but he was made that annoying.
Many a time I've wanted to put my fist through the screen when he's around. That is why I avoid him like the plague in subsequent versions. I gather that he isn't as bad these days.
Noober was just another quirk about BG1 that really made BG1 so great. What other game has anything even remotely related to noober, the village idiot that everyone hates? Things like Noober, larryl darryl and darryl, korax, etc., I really appreciated these odd quirks.
Edwin. I can't stand that egoistic bastards, who think he bests everyone, so he can manipulate and murder. It was quite ... calming to see him jump on Minsc's sword. Twice.

Gothic 1 does. Trust that guy there is even MORE annoying.

I like to kill both. Especially Minsc though, TBH.

I prefer to park each one of this trio in separate pits in Gnoll Fortress. Let the gnolls sort this out.

Um, on topic. Uh... still Minsc. Sometimes Nalia.
