@booinyoureyes i think it's 16th century French longsword vs. 14 century German. (I can't remember well, and I don't feel like looking it up) the later ones where one handed(better steel->smaller&lighter?) and the German longswords where also called "greatswords" and "two handed swords".
Ok.... these are three confessions I've wanted to share since the beginning of the thread but waited until an appropriate moment. Some people have mentioned these already.
I wish I took uncanny dodge before admitting this one here, but Confession: Despite criticizing the expansion on this forum multiple times, I really like the story Throne of Bhaal. I'm not talking about character interaction, or quests, or cool locations or anything like that. The main story of Bhaalspawn hunting Bhaalspawn is cool. I like conclusive endings. I like epic shizznit. I like Imoen the most in this game compared to the others. I like Sarevok a lot, and think his addition was really awesome. I know the story was railroaded more than the Union Pacific. I understand that character development outside of the two I mentioned was pretty much non-existant. This is fair criticism that I agree with. Doesn't change the fact that finally concluding such a crazy story in a satisfying, somewhat logical way is an accomplishment in a world full of LOSTs, Battlestar Galacticas and the Sopranos. The last chapter may not have been great, but at least it ended on a decent note.
Confession: Many people criticize Minsc as a simple comic relief character (which has much truth to, though I like him anyway) but I think the NPC that is most simply there for the laughs is Edwin. People think he's so cool... and he is pretty damn funny. I like Edwin. But lets be real here for a second. His character doesn't change. He doesn't show any nuance. His main storyline is him reading a scroll and turning into a woman . I am honestly shocked that a lot of the legitimate criticism that goes Minsc's way never gets applied to Edwin. So... basically I think Edwin is overrated
Confession: I loved Irenicus as a character (great voice, actually detestable due to history with character, amazing presence) but he took a big hit in my estimation when I found out he was simply an angry emo teenager who couldn't get over his ex girlfriend for decades. As cool as he is, his overall plan was lame in comparison to the other two main villains, and he was least integral to the main storyline. So, like many others, I actually prefer Sarevok!
Confession: I never beat vanilla BG1, only the EE (mostly because my tutu crashed and my vanilla discs kept having wild surges). It was without the BG1 NPC Project, which is a tragedy
Confession: I have not played a completely unmodded game since like 2003
Confession: like @Jenzafar I will never solo the game. I feel like this is just not how it was meant to be played. The closest I will ever get will be a four person party.
Confession: Never played a no-romance game. Not because I think the romances are awesome or necessary or anything. Just because I want to get the complete experience that the game provides.
Confession: I think Planescape Torment, while still good, is overrated. I prefer Baldur's Gate by quite a bit. Not to knock Planescape, but it took place in a world too weird for me and I don't really relate to the main characters struggles (nor do I really love roleplaying a walking corpse!)

Technically, a real life "longword" refers to any sword that isn't a shortsword (very simplified, but true). As such the majory of longswords can indeed be wielded as both a single handed weapon and two-handed weapon. And yes, Claymores/Zweihänder are also considered "longswords" in that regard.
Anyway, I have another confession to make: At one point in the distant past I thought Puddings tasted like puddings. I was proven wrong by my taste buds.
Confession: I don't think that Aerie is whiny and I enjoyed her romance.
Confession: I don't think Jaheira is annoying.
Confession: Nor do I think Minsc is annoying.
Confession: I dislike Irenicus as a villain. I much prefer Sarevok as one.
Confession: I do enjoy Throne of Bhaal.
Confession: I have never cared much about technical/mechanical stuff or powergaming. I mostly only care for the story. This has actually caused that I do not have much knowledge about technical/battle mechanics.
@Shandyr I just realized we share quite a bit in our tastes
Confession: I enjoyed both Aerie's and Jaheira's romance, and Viconia's not so much. I had a crush on Aerie back in the day.
Confession: I have never romanced Anomen because I'm afraid I'll not like it, and I think both versions of Anomen are annoying in their own way.
Confession: I adore Mazzy, but hate the way she treats Valygar, even though I dislike him.
Confession: I sometimes cheat to make my Charname unkillable
Confession: Whenever I used to play a fighter/mage I completely overlooked tactical spellcasting.
Confession: I never played a pure spellcaster.
Confession: When I myself was a lot younger, I thought that despite the mod's shortcomings, Saerileth was kinda cute... *hangs head in shame* *casts sanctuary*
Confession: I still play a little vanilla BG1 on my old computer now and then because I like the way it looked, and the original spellcasting sounds make me nostalgic.
Confession: Unlike many people here I think Anomen is the best romance. Dang, I think he's one of the best characters, period. He has the best characterization (seems like a real person in that situation, not some perfectly noble hero archetype) and the best development in the whole series (actually changes significantly in way that makes sense)
From what I can tell about the Anomen romance is that most people who give it a try and can suffer through the first part of it end up liking him alot. The problem is getting past that huge ego and the grandious(I think this is a word. It sounds like a word.) lies. Someday I might try it, but since I almost exclusively RP males, and my one female PC is going to be evil, I'm not sure it'll be anytime soon.
....
Confession:I am finally playing a female character. I decided to make her on my evil playthrough. I don't think this says good things about me.
@booinyoureyes Confession: you might very well be right, and I am ashamed to say I have never had him in my party long enough to try and look past my first impression.
Confession: When I was young, I almost always failed to save Viconia from the stake because I couldn't figure out how the "turning-arrow-icon" above the burn pile worked or what it meant.
Confession: I think Hexxat > Clara. I'M NOT SORRY.
oh no... someone brought up Clara and Hexxat in my thread well... there goes the neighborhood!
@Sjerrie I agree with @Necomancer 's take. People often give up on him too easily. The point of his character is that he grows out of being a jerk. I highly recommend trying it.
Addition: until now. Current Charname is an Avenger. Though once shapeshifting abilities arrive I will make heavy use of those. Oh, and am gonna romance Dorn. Wish me luck.
@booinyoureyes@necomancer I am now resolved to giving Anomen another chance, once I think of an appropriate female Charname.
Confession: I've never played with Sword Coast Strategems. By everyone's impressions it seems like it makes mages unbeatable by using foolproof lines of defense, controlled by god-tier AI.
Confession: I've never played a female CHARNAME. Sorry, but all the male voicesets of BG2 except MALE5/Default are better than the females'. MALE1 is the best though.
Confession: I've played every alignment except Chaotic Evil. It just seems like the alignment for simpletons that can't understand cunning.
Confession: I've never taken Jaheira or Nalia through the whole game and ToB.
Confession: I've never played a Halfling. I love shorties and all but Dwarves are just plain better.
Confession: I don't like Hexxat. I haven't used her past SoA because she reeks of Special Snowflake Syndrome. Know your place, bloodsucker: you're not more important than me.
Confession: Although I fancy myself a half-elf, and i really want to rp one, I always play an elf so I can start with a 19 in dex.
Confession: I wish there was only one suit of anheg armor in BG1. I think having two makes armor selection for my frontliners boring. Every time I start a new game I tell myself to pretend that dusty green armor isn't laying in a field down south, but every time I hit the cloakwoods, my two tanks are head to toe in green!
Confession: I'm all for more race/class restrictions, and I think there should be more.
Confession: I have come to love BG2, but I still think BG is a better overall experience.
Confession: I've never played a female CHARNAME. Sorry, but all the male voicesets of BG2 except MALE5/Default are better than the females'. MALE1 is the best though.
I actually like MALE5. I think the MALE3 is the worst. I could only see myself using that voiceset for an annoying bard (Eldoth-style). Of the female voicesets I think FEMALE4 is pretty solid, for many types of female charnames, and FEMALE3 has worked for a few female gnomes and halflings I've played.
I love MALE3 actually... I think MALE5's "to battle and VICTORY" is just too over the top. 3 and 4 are my favorites. But then again I usually play bards and paladins.
My all time favorite though is the third male option from the first game. Cracks me up.

Confession: I take a crapload of time to figure a Charname out before I even roll him/her. Even after rolling I might think for days about something like the voiceset.
@meagloth IKR?!? On my last playthrough of both games I had to change the voice of my Charname when starting BG2EE. It was probably done though because of all the extra sounds.

Confession: Quayle has never joined my party.
Confession: In BG1, if I ever play a good person I always try to get Kivan, Coran, Imoen, Jaheira, and Khalid in a party.
Confession: If I'm playing an evil person, I try to find a way to keep Edwin out of the party.
Confession: I secretly wish that Kaigan was in BG2.
Confession: I really don't like Anomen aka Assnomen
Confession: When I play a good guy in BG2, I always join with Aran, and whenever I play a bad guy I join Bodhi.
Confession: I've only had Haer'dalis in my party a couple of times.
Confession: Jaheira is almost always my tank when I'm playing a good guy in BG2.
Confession: I actually let Viconia get burned at the stake once.
Confession: I think Kivan and Coran are the best archer.
Confession: Coran and Kivan are tied for being my most favorite character in the whole Baldur's Gate Saga.
Confession: I actually think Xan is a better mage than Dynaheir, Edwin, and Xzar when it comes to BG1, and he is only second to Neera.
Confession: Whenever Keldorn and Viconia get into a fight, I always cheer for Keldorn.
Confession: I have yet to use Wilson as a Party Member.
Confession: I wish that Baeloth the Entertainer were a romancible NPC.
Confession: I wish that Baeloth the Entertainer were a NPC in BG2EE.

"Toim fer a bitta tha ruff 'n' tumble!"
"haha! Oy'l lead 'em well!"
The original 3 is very funny, I used it once long ago on a halfling, the dude with the sideburns and the hat.
