I pray to Lathander you're wrong @Silverstar‌. The idea of people paying for photo and voice sets gives me a similar feeling of sadness to when I hear about a serial killer on the news.

Ummm … Voice acting is a developed skill, a skilled labor, in economic terms. Voice actors should probably, I dunno, get paid for what they do.
    Hear, hear!

Voice actors definitely don't come cheaply.

Voice actors can be in fact anyone that volunteer themselfs, as we all for example. Beamdog just need to organize the work as they did with the translation volunteer work.

    No, just no.
I was going to say. No good quality voice actor would volunteer for a monetized project like a JNPC DLC.

I can see a good quality voice actor volunteering on a mod NPC where there is no chance to make money, but a DLC pack? Yeah, no, I'm pretty sure hell is going to need to freeze over a couple of times.

Also, you gotta keep in mind, Beamdog is trying to hire some familiar voices for Adventure Y. So, if there is a "voice actor" budget, it's probably going towards that right now. Especially, when one can consider that one of those familiar voices is Jennifer Hale.

With so much worry thoughts about the time and money the devs don't have to make an NPC DLC i see a bit contradictory reject volunteer free work.

I'm all for professional voice actors and NPC DLCs.

one of those familiar voices is Jennifer Hale.

    Oh crud.

As much as I think she's a good voice actor, I am a bit fed up with her being in every game ever. Guess Steve Blum is just around the corner then...

Yeah, a lot of people in the adventure Y thread believe she's going to be reprising her role as Dynaheir, and I'm pretty sure that's why they're trying to get her in the first place. Oh, and if I were a betting woman, I would say that Beamdog is trying to get Jim Cummings too, because what is Dynaheir without Minsc and Boo?! As for Steve Blum, Bioware overused his voice in SWTOR, so I'm already sick of his voice.

If it were a free JNPC DLC pack, then I can see volunteering working.

However, if it's going to be a paid JNPC DLC pack, then those "volunteers" are probably going to be expecting to be paid, and they have every right to be paid, because Beamdog would be making a profit on the work that the voice actors put into that JNPC DLC.

Did... did you just compare art to murder?! You... compared artwork with murder. There are very few things I can say to you that won't make my blood boil, but that is low brow. What's next? It's like touching children?!

It's not even haha funny if you were trying to tell a joke. Your ending stream of words is probably going to infuriate me further.

No amount of time and effort can suddenly make Neera or Ekandor sound good enough that they'd belong in Bizzaro World Baldur's Gate. Sure Neera sounds loony, but very wooden, as though you can see her moving to compensate for her vocality.

Not that I'm trashing Nicola Elbro, she does improve in BG2. I did a little research: she is an actor, but a stage/camera actor. This isn't private stuff, her online Resume is free to view on her website and has lots of Shakespeare... that's not easy stuff to do, trust me, I tried.

The point is, when all you have is a voice, you need ALL the voice. Go all out... I'll explain this vocally in due time.

If you don't have an emphatic voice, you might as well try and be the next Ben Stein, just don't create a terrible 'documentary' that makes Catwoman seem like a good cinematic viewing.

IIRC, I think one one of the voice actors that voiced a character in the IWD NPC mod was a professional voice actor who volunteered.

IMO, NPCs kind of go against the spirit of what IWD is. Which that is a create your own party ARPG.

Point of order: calling IWD an action RPG is like calling Diablo 3 a thought-provoking storyline.

Well, to be fair, I felt nothing when Arundel kicked the bucket, but was fairly taken aback when I realized Leah had been destroyed by defeating Diablo.

Why anyone was expecting additional content such as NPC's is beyond me. That actually takes effort and visionary guile, something I've yet to see from Beamdog.

Besides, do you want NPC's the quality of Hexxat or any of the rest? Don't make me laugh.

It's better that we just get through this as painlessly as possible. I'm excited for IWD to be updated and enhanced but I am not expecting much more from it than that. or should anyone.

I missed this guy's quotes :)! The forum wasn't the same without his flammable posts!

If Overhaul did JNPCs for IWD, I'd sure hope they'd be as awesome as Hexxat. Because Hexxat is awesome.

Hexxat is awesome? Either you are being sarcastic, or your taste is poor beyond belief. Hexxat is the WORST NPC in the entire series. See my "Tragedy of Hexxat" thread for further education on the matter.

I'm with you on this one. I remember the exact point at which I stopped playing the EE. It was when Korgan and Hexxaf had some embarrassing convo about Korgan liking 'dark meat'. I realized at this point that my beloved BG had reached current Bioware levels of writing pants on head retardness. And Neera... The less said the Better

The other cringe-worthy moment is where Hexxat threatens Korgan and he ACTUALLY backs down.

I simply sat there stunned. Like.. This is not happening. They neutered a hardass, evil SOB to make her look oh-so-scary. It didn't work and came off as pathetic.

Anyway all this stuff and more is mentioned in my thread. Others also had good contributions. Hexxat is a joke with no punchline, as are the rest of the new NPC's.

Korgan's crude, and a lecher. That convo seemed pretty appropriate for him.

Maybe it's your own taste that's poor. Or, everybody's got their preferences, so blow it out your ass, you pompous shitlord.

Well, if that comment doesn't earn you at least a warning, then I'll feel all the more aggrieved.

Except anyone that appreciates such poor writing and (lack of) character development is someone who's opinion is not worth considering in the first place. Take a hike, clown, and dry those eyes, this isn't worth crying over.

He's a lecher, yes, but there's subtly written lechery, and there's hacky Zevran-level lechery.

I am not going to miss this thread one little bit when it gets closed.

    Alright, that's enough.

I'm not going to close this thread (not yet), but if you want to continue discussing the possibility of NPCs in IWD:EE, do so without attacking or provoking others. Warnings and bans have been and will be distributed as appropriate.
