That's a long story. It started with a trip to the Natural History Museum in London. I used to go there a lot. I still make a trip there once a year. When I was child, I wasn't interested in the large dinosaurs like the other children my age were; the Tyrannosaurus and the Diplodocus. I took a liking to the Troodon.
The '80' is because of two reasons. Well, two main reasons. When I first signed up for an e-mail account, Troodon was already taken. You know that feeling when you sign up for an e-mail account and it says the name has already been taken, "someone else has the name I want. The gall, the nerve, I can't believe they took my name before I claimed it. How dare they! Hmph. Well, I'll just add a number and I'll still be able to keep the name itself."
Well, as it turned out, Troodon1 through Troodon8 were also taken. I added a 0 on to the 8 because I couldn't be bothered trying Troodon9 since it was likely also taken, and Troodon0 by itself looked even sillier. In the end, Troodon80 was fine. Curiously, there are other people going by the name of Troodon80 out there, as well as Troodons 1 through 9 (there are a few Troodons on Steam aside from myself, in fact, and I seem to recall even seeing a Troodon70 some time back as well), so I assume something similar occurred for them, and is less helpful since on a couple sites I had to use a different name. Second reason, the 80s were great. Not as good as the 60s, in my opinion, but still a close second. :-)
I'm not good at coming up with screen-names or aliases. Mine is my name IRL. It's very common in Scotland where I used to live, although when I visit the U.S. they think that my parents were hardcore Larpers or something. Guess it's not so common there.

My name is part of a lyric from a Pink Floyd song called "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" from the album "Animals".
Big man, pig man, ha ha, charade you are You well heeled big wheel, ha ha, charade you are ... etc, etc.
On a side note, my portrait is Hudson from the movie Aliens ("Game over man, game over!"). I figured Pink Floyd and Aliens combined had a coolness factor of at least a billion... How could I go wrong?

@Southpaw I tag you. Are you a fan of the control mechanics on controllers, or fighting southpaw?
Actually, the fighting southpaw :-)
I am ambidextrous in real life and usually fight (boxing, mainly) in left-handed aka "Southpaw stance", because it gives me an edge when sparring people that aren't used to spar left-handers. In games, I usually use max 3 different nicknames for different characters/classes, Southpaw being one of them, mostly for unarmed,combat-oriented characters. There's a Monk class in BG that I enjoyed, so I used this nick when joining the forum.
Now, let's tag two people that could enlighten us about the whereabouts of their names: @CaloNord & @kiwidoc .
@Southpaw well there it is. One of my friends uses his steam name as southpaw, but he is not a fighter, he is in to the control scheme on first person games. Thanks for sharing
This is a cool thread, I want it to keep going... While growing up my cousin had an xbox and we played halo and other FPSs and we needed names for our profiles. My cousin saw the TV show JAG and was fascinated by the military theme so at first he named his profile 'jag'. Eventually he changed it so that it started with his first initial 'gag', then he threw his initials in front of that and it finally became GEGag100. The 100 inspired by the 3 digits given to spartans in the halo books. I decided I liked how it was short and unique so I made mine with my initials and made it 200 as I was the second gamer out of the many cousins in the family. Some people think it's French, which is regrettable but it's what I'm going with on dozens of accounts now. (Just kidding, I don't have anything against the French)
@Southpaw the whys and wherefores of my name is pretty boring actually - I'm a doctor, and I am originally from New Zealand and therefore a kiwi. As I said - boring (even though it does sound like something interesting in Welsh)
@Southpaw It doesn't actually mean anything in Welsh, but a few people have assumed it's a welsh word or a welsh name .... it's the w and the doc at the end that fools them.
@lelag200 and here was I wondering if you spke le Francais and you had the most horrendous lag whenever you attempted multiplayer online A 2 second lag would be enough to get you into serious trouble!
Ah ha! Calo Nord was a bounty hunter from the Knights of the Old Republic games many years ago. He was short and had an obnoxious attitude I found annoying, even if he did get horribly slaughtered every game. . .
The only thing I know is that @CaloNord is a good fella that took this forum by storm in the late spring - early summer of 2014. The storm was short but it was good while it lasted
Well, I wanted to choose a name that would signify how much of a sane, well balanced human being I am.
The meaning of my real name is "hero, great hero". Which isn't surprising as I've fought many battles and won many wars. It's not my fault they happen to be fictional.

I toyed with choosing the name Wonko the Sane, but believe it was taken on certain forums that I frequent. Shame really.

That's the brief and basic version.
I am a myconid, and to be honest I'm actually not that angry that much, its a misnomer.
Funny Baldurs Gate forum story, a while ago @Ulfgar_Torunn messaged me and was said:
"Holy crap! Cory Newberry? Is that you?
It's Shaun! What's up man? "
Several messages back and forth revealed there was another Cory Newberry that was in to Baldurs Gate and such. Funny, confusing exchange.

(I actually thought it might have something to do with NZ)
