    And yet it's still awesome. The Hobbit was my favorite book, and the movies are better than LotR. That said, I haven't seen number 3, and I'm not hearing great things. But I don't care!

    Hrm. It watches like tom cruise made a WoW movie, and there is only and extended cut available. At one point Elrond ends up fighting 4-6 Nazgul at once(don't ask) and as he steps into the scene he channels his inner Bruce Willis and says "you should have stayed dead!" Before jumping at them in an anime-worthy fashion. As much as I think the movies should conform to the very letter of the book, the other to still had the fact that in and of themselves they were actually rather entertaining movies, but that stops here.

    *sigh*

    I should probably stop hating on it(especially since no ones seems to share my view) but I really like the book, and the way they cocked it up (IMO) really pisses me off. It could have been so good. But no. :-(

    That said, a giant eagle is still pretty bad ass

    Just look at it this way, the movies are a bard's tale version of the books. A tale spun loudly and with generous embellishment for a rowdy bar of adventurers seeking a rollicking yarn of glorious battle and improbable deeds.

    Edit: a y wandered into my improbable

    We should probably take this to "the hobbit" thread. http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/4848/the-hobbit

    I've been wondering for a while now... but don't have Stormlords of Talos pretty much the best battle steeds in existence? After all their "mounts" are frigging Cumulonimbus clouds for Talos' sake! I mean, just how cool is that?!

    I think dragons have the best steeds, they are their steeds and they can use breath weapons on anyone who flies under them.

    One of the giant bat-like creatures from the first book in Corum's Trilogy would make a nice battle steed if you know how to ride them.

    Very cool - especially if they start dropping hail and sleet!

    @CrevsDaak I haven't come across Corums trilogy, I'll take a look just for the bats. I thought they had to come from somewhere - all the other mounts except the Eagles were homages to books or films.

    A unicorn (well it's sort of a horse - ish).
    Specifically, Imraith-Nimphais from the Fionavar Tapestry.

    @kiwidoc‌ I'd say it's a pretty good trilogy, but the author's (Michael Moorcock) best saga is Elric of Meliboné (check out both).

    So Goku is a Stormlord of Talos?! Woah.

    100% what I was thinking.

    @CrevsDaak I've read my Elric omnibus to pieces - it has literally fallen apart. I've got an e-book version now. I should have recogised the name Corum, but my brain decided to go on holiday a bit early this year.

    This isn't tomb raider, you can't control a shark by punching it in the nose.

    I thought that was batman.

    I'm fairly sure you can make a white shark turn away from you if you punch in the nose, above the jaw, especially if you bash it with a cricket bat. A New Zealander did that on a beach near Christchurch, and stopped a shark from biting his son - lucky he was playing beach cricket when he spotted it.

    But sharks aren't on the lists of options - that certain movie never got anywhere near the beaches, even though New Zealand has so many great beaches.

    Sauron doesn't like beaches. He has sensitive skin and burns easily. Thus, all that armor and whatnot when he goes outside.

    A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse!

    @kcwise Hmmm - I have sensitive skin, and burn easily. Also all my armor and whatnot gets ultra hot when I go outside .... but I still miss Christmas and New Year kiwi style - at the beach. Maybe we can compromise and go horse riding on a beach!

    @Musigny - Damn! I haven't got a horse to hand, and I've always wanted a kingdom *sulks*

    After seeing the last Hobbit movie, I want a razorback hog. I want to be like a dwarf with a warm hammer in one hand, charging down at the enemy.

    There is an excellent alternative.
    For the secret avenger the John Steed is the most efficient option.

    Oh yes ... going into battle with a John Steed is most A-Peeling
    (kiwidoc slinks off the thread and joins Musigny in heading for the hills!)

    Wait. Are we seriously referencing the british tv show the Avengers? Because if so then this is truly the greatest forum ever. This is the first time ever I've met someone who knew what it was besides me. That was my CHILDHOOD, man!

    @Elrandir‌
    Part of my child culture and childhood too. Yes this is a great forum :blush:

    @Elrandir & @Musigny Hey guys - it was my childhood too, and Mrs Peel RULES!
    Do we need a thread for appreciating the REAL Avengers?
