Overly Sarcastic Insightfuls

We've all done it. Who wants to admit guilt? 75% of the time I pick 'insightful' it's completely not insightful. Anyone else?

But, I do sometimes give an insightful for reasons other than insight. It isn't always sarcasm though. On occasion someone will post something that I neither like nor agree with, but that deserves some sort of acknowledgement, so I'll give them an insightful since that's the closest option. We need more options, and thus more badges to gather!

Not really. Sometimes I give an insightful as a "like +1" if you will. Like a particularly funny meme or something. Or when like seems to frivolous and agree would be lying.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, "insightful" means "having or showing a very clear understanding of something : having or showing insight.

The forum leaders in insightfuls are Dee and elminster - both have nearly 3000 insightfuls. Who wouldn't say these two great men show a very clear understanding of everything related to Baldur's Gate?

As for me, I usually try to evaluate every comment I read. If it brings something fresh, something "out" I give it an insightful. It happens quite often, though ; )

For example, the OP told me something I didn't know: I thought people gave insightfuls only when the post really deserved it. So, have an insightful from me.

To me, the main aim of my own reaction to someone's post is to give this person a message I appreciate the post, I appreciate the fact the person went forward and gave the opinion (the joke/the news/the plea).

Given that we're all individuals it's hardly surprising that the option of only three responses can't adequately represent the whole gamut of opinions regarding a particular post. Therefore it is unlikely that there could ever be consensus as to what any particular response 'means'.

I give an insightful when a comment points out something that I personally haven't seen or realised before, or when it prompts me to look at things differently.

As for any insightfuls that I receive, I take them as a compliment for whatever reason they're given and they encourage me to comment more often and put more thought into my comments.

To clarify, I wasn't trying to load myself up with insightfuls through this thread.
I remember a post being extremely opinionated and blunt, and I gave it an insightful, as a sarcastic, "Yes, yes, of course! It makes so much sense!" I used it almost as a disagree, if there was such a thing.
Pretty sure I won't be able to give out insightfuls now without people doubting me.

But sarcasm means to use irony in order to mock or degrade a person. I give insightfuls usually when I've genuinely learned something from the post, but sometimes I just do it for the sake of doing it (like in this thread). That doesn't mean that in doing so I actively mock what they have written.

I think the better term would be "just for the lolz."

We used to have a disagree option. Also a spam and flag options. It didn't work well as their current absence proves...
