How do you justify NOT having Minsc and Jaheira around? (Spoilers!)

I keep putting off starting my new BG2:EE playthrough because I am still unsure how to deal with Minsc and Jaheira. As a Good Charname, it is difficult to justify not having them around in a way that makes sense roleplay-wise.
The start of BG2 gives both of them compelling reasons to stick with you and avenge Khalid/Dynaheir and rescue Imoen. Jaheira in particular is basically a guardian figure, and it's pretty weird for her to just abandon you in your darkest hour.
Obviously I am asking this question because I want to try out different NPCs for this playthrough, but despite @semiticgod's insightful guide, I doubt I can make it out of Chateau Irenicus without at least one of the duo.
I suppose I could just "retcon" what happens in the game for the opening dungeon, since it isn't a stretch to imagine that the Shadow Thieves did more damage than they did, and made it easier for Charname and Imoen to escape by themselves... But then there's the factor that I kinda want to have Jaheira and Minsc (especially Jaheira) available for Throne of Bhaal as a backup NPC if one of my primary companions suffers perma-death. Ah I am so indecisive sometimes!

Example: You could take Jaheira into the Galvarey estate and park her there, because you agree that she will sort out some Harper business (there's some strange goings on there), while your character goes fundraising and looking for ways to get to Imoen. It may cause Jaheira and Charname to grow apart to the point that the latter sets sail to Spellhold without her.
Minsc might 'decide' to return to Rashemen to atone for his failure in protecting his 'witch'. In the same way, he may also change his mind and come back to Athkatla to make up for his shortcoming there, because it will allow himbto return to Rashemen a more honorable Ranger at some later time.
Or, given that Irenicus had been torturing you in a variety of ways having some irrational behavior in the dungeon could be explained away as emotional trauma. You "freak out" for a bit after getting free and tell everyone to get away from you. Maybe you feel bad about it later, but by then you've moved on and picked up other companions.
Either I will acknowledge that Minsc and/or Jaheira is there, and fight my way out with them, and then concoct an excuse to part ways afterwards so I can pick up my "A Team" for this playthrough (Yoshimo/Imoen, Aerie, Anomen, Neera and Keldorn)...
Or I will simply pretend that they aren't even there. I only had Minsc briefly in BG1 (for the Dynaheir rescue), so there is no reason he has to be in the cage. Jaheira on the other hand... I'd have to pretend Irenicus killed her along with Khalid cos obviously if she was alive in the cage, Charname would try to free her.
I might change my mind, but my current idea is to try the jailbreak with Jaheira, but not Minsc (I hope I can manage it, Minsc is a beast in that starting dungeon!). Jaheira will then make contact with the Harpers once we escape, but discover that the Harpers intend to kill Charname (that's the Jaheira romance in BG2 isn't it?) and decides to leave to remain neutral, or possibly help keep the Harpers off the scent. As @Blackraven said... getting creative lol.
Charname is being experimented on, bam! Shadow Thief assault. Imoen gets free during the fighting, breaks you out, the two of you make a run for it instantly. (Jaheira and Minsc aren't in cages behind you, just some random people you can't help, being groggy and drug along by Imoen.)
You bust out of the dungeon (with or without Yoshimo, depending if you thought it too convenient or not him showing up by the portal) and Imoen starts a Mage duel right in the promenade. Fast forward a few seconds and your charname is in a new city, confused, and totally alone.
I suppose Option B is you make it out with the four (or five) of you, and when Minsc and Jaheira decide that Irenicus Must Die!, you break off on your own to focus on Imoen instead leaving the two of them to cope in their own way. Let them be blood-crazed, you need to put a rescue mission together with people that put Imoen first.
I am minimalistic when it comes to parties and usually 1-3 max others. Solos are too lonely. Visconia, neera are my favourites. Pretty much the only characters I get along with.
Or, to quote minsc: "This behaviour must not continue. Feel the burning stare of my hamster and change your ways. "
...
On second thought, I'm pretty sure that'd be an abuse of mod privileges and count as a Lawful Evil action.
Boo is watching you.
She can help you out of Irenicus dungeon, then sever ties with her as she goes and reports with the Harper's to see if they can offer aid or any inside information on Irenicus and his plans.
Due to Minsc's mental state, you may find it best for your party's safety that he mourn Dyna's death in peace and the comfort of the Copper Cornet which he now helps guard after removing the slavers.
You visit both of these areas through out the game so RPing that you away checking in on them when you visit an area to gain information or just to say hello works imo.
Minsc however, is fun for a playthrough or two but gets boring pretty fast IMO.
Jahera is a bit of a nanny but the druid spells are cool and she can hold her own in a melee so she's hard to justify replacing.
She had over 70% of party kills in Chapter 1, lol.
That said, I do tend to have him in my party since he's a good-aligned 2-hander plate-wearer and señor paladin always goes off with his family. But yeah, I can find reason not to take him along too.
Jaheira was indeed intended to be a guardian... "at least until you came of age" which she says in her very first conversation. Now, she's still a friend and all, but that doesn't give her any more reason to be in the group than Neera, Garrick or Viconia, or anyone else that adventured with me in the first game. So that leaves the revenge thing. But like Minsc, she doesn't really seem all that focused on that task either. She's a lot more vengeful for sure, but there's not a hint of this being important during conversations, her quest or if dismissed from the party. Being really long-lived she probably is hatching some really revengey revenge.
Again, I usually keep her around too. She's a good character in all sense of the phrase. Doesn't really belong in the party any more than anyone else though.
Minsc, Neeber and Noober = the 3 stooges
