And of course there are a few surprises. Raedric or more exactly his god has an ace up his sleeve.
I personally think Raedric's extremely deluded on that point, considering the god he thinks is backing him, is Berath. "Berath is the god that makes life end in death, and it is also the god that makes death end in life [..] for it has given us the promise of life's eternal renewal." A god of the wheel, the eternal cycle, taking a soul out of the cycle to start a vampire cult, uuhhhm yeah no.
I agree with you. For the other players still in their first playthrough, beware too many hints.
Considering that Raedric kills because the cycle is broken and he incidentally accelerates the capture of souls, it is hard to think that his god continues to grant him his favour. This looks like a punishment so that he is kept out of the cycle. Perhaps someone has a different and more developed view based on deity oppositions.
I can see Skaen doing this, pretending to be Berath. Just because Raedric is a noble and Skaen is petty that way or maybe even Woedica. She is the goddess of rightful rulership and the Watcher has displaced Raedric rather violently, also she is in direct opposition to Watcher and maybe she just raised Raedric to at worst buy time and at best kill the Watcher.

Yes that makes sense.
Two comments : If Skaen (or btw any other god) is acting here , this may be with Berath consent. This is not mutually exclusive. That sounds good. If Woedica's hand is behind it then there is something more to understand about the presence of a (dark) animancer.
Thanks to you, my list of points to verify grows Skaen dialog : cult near dyrwood - council of stars - very final step Vampire/Fampyr : Od Nua lvl 8 - Heritage Hill (Icantha, twice) - Raedric - perhaps the bounty too (catacombs) I can't remember who initiates it. + everything related to Helig
I used a cipher in my first playthrough. Retrospectively I think it offered many additional dialog options and this is the key point for the character. A cipher is also an excellent option for the new player as this provides powerful "spells" (they call it powers) which will help defeat several foes even if you are not used to the game mechanics. A power such as mental binding (level 2) can efficiently be used until the end of the game. Less focus on battles is good for a first party. If you play a cipher, give her a good amount of intelligence points, even if you select "powers" for which the area of effect is not important/critical, the duration of such spells really matters.
CIPHER IS SO HYPE. I like the Cipher because soul magic is COOL AS HELL. My main Char is a Chanter atm because I like Necromancers and they are the most necromancy-y. On my second run I'm going to use a full custom party led by an Orlan Cipher girl. This first run is for the party members banter, dialogue, and story. My next will be a hardcore ironman run based on the combat of the game.
BUT YEAH CIPHERS ARE COOL. Greiving Mother quickly became a permenant companion in my party because you can DRAIN stats! Oh, I can't hit you but you can hit me? I'LL JUST DRAIN YOUR ACCURACY AND REVERSE THAT!
Outnumbered? Cast ringleader and all will kneel before their TRUE lord! Cipher is SO HYPE!
Yeah I just restarted as a Cipher and I have just got to say that soul magic is awesome, that and their purple flames effect. If I'd known of that flames effect I'd have rolled a Cipher sooner.
Sooo just beat PoE. I didn't finish the endless paths but did every other quest/area in the game that I could find. Everyone was level 12 by the end which is the cap I believe. I actually just hit 12 on the final boss battle.
I loooooooovvvvveeeedd this game. Of the three RPGs I've beaten in the past month, them being Bravely Default, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and Pillars of Eternity, PoE had me hooked the most! I just couldn't get enough. DA:I became a slog near the end and Bravely Default. Well. Those last chapters are some of the worst things I've ever had the displeasure of playing.
SO YEAH PoE IS AWESOME! Sagani is my favorite NPC and I really liked everyone else. The only NPCs I didn't use was Kana the chanter (since I was a Chanter) and Hiravias (I probably spelled his name wrong. The Orlan Druid guy).
This definitely gave me a BG1 vibe as far as story telling went. It never directly really tells you whats what until the end. The first part is a huge mystery of what the crap is going on and trying to puzzle together how all these seemingly unrelated events are related.
I'm excited for the eventual expansions! n_n I hope to see more Sagani. /infatuated with her. But she's married. QQ
Edit: Wait this is a BG spiritual successor right? Ok. We have the next villain murder Sagani's husband and then I marry her! It worked for some Charnames (not mine, though) and Jaheira. It can work for Sagani and I. Right?
Same excitement here. With one difference, Obsidian thank you! No romance - that was so good. Please welcome my warm, friendly hug. Superb npcs. I have a slight preference for the grieving mother (very rich background), Eder (simple, moving, friendly story development with interactions till the end, long after his quest conclusion (like Aloth), Durance (yes irritable but so epic!). I am wondering how those nice npcs behave if you play a nasty PC. Any experience to share ?
IE mod for PoE, looks pretty cool. Might just install it for the different blue circles and the Lore Friendly backer names XD
Unfortunately...
@SmilingSword The authors of the mod seem to have stopped working on it and won't update it due to losing their interest in the game. So as soon as the game is updated to the next version, the mod won't work...
There is always a good chance, that others will take over Bester's work, and continue the IE mod- Other mods surely will see the light of day, soon... I mean, it's not like he is the only guy in the world who knows Unity and C+
FYI the 1.04 patch is live on Steam. I'm hoping it makes my game run a little smoother with shorter load screens. I've noticed the game runs significantly better and worse depending on what map I'm on. Raedric's Hold basement ran really well, but going upstairs things are kind of choppy. Granted, my laptop shouldn't even bs able to run the game at all, so I'm not griping. Anyone else noticing this?
@simples - it seems there is a bug when a cipher equips the Mead Horn of Moderation (or whatever it is) which stops them gaining focus. Have you got it equipped?

I beat the the game a while back but I might try a second playthrough and play the reverse of my first character (Kind and Diplomatic was my first run, but play an Evil character this time around).
Also, Raedric and Kolsc are both douches but I think Kolsc is the lesser douche so I let him rule. Things happened later I didn't expect.

We can read Sensuki's (who is one of the modders) views on PoE in the OP here: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/quickfire-systemic-criticism-that-contributes-to-banality-of-gameplay.98429/ and here: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/69199-possible-spoilers-modding-thread-a-simple-mod-and-console-commands/?p=1659710
Well that kinda sucks,
I wonder if I install it and then a patch uninstalls it, would it break my game?
And this is probably how Imoen feels when she's left on the Lion's Way by CHARNAME.
*reinstalls PoE*
Talisman of the Unconquerable will now give a 1.25 Focus multiplier instead of .25.

Just now, I came across this awesome fanart and felt overwhelmed by a sudden urge to share the find.
