Edwin kills the iron statue. As it crumbles to the ground, Tiax's mace falls free. Edwin sneers at the warriors. "How often will I be forced to save your bacon?"
Okay, the books all seem to be research material, and not very interesting otherwise. Same with the scrolls. Outside the door is a 50' long corridor running east-west. You are 10' from the western (left) end of the corridor. !0' to the northwest is a door. There is another door 10' to the northeast (right), and a third at the extreme northeastern end of the corridor, 40' from you.
Arkanis gets back all but one hp. Tiax is still down 2. The first room appears to be empty. It is 10' wide (east-west) by 20' north-south. At the back of the room, there is a door to the east.
In the room beyond, you walk into what looks like a bedroom. A plain bed and a huge wooden desk dominate this spartanly furnished bedchamber. A broom lies in one corner near a pile of dirt. A tattered pair of silk bedroom slippers lie on the floor near the bed. A small nightstand has been overturned. While you watch, a small black kitten races out from under the bed, bats one of the slippers around, then runs back under the bed. The kitten reminds you of Neera's Oops.
"It's a cute little kitty cat!" Alora gets on her hands and knees to look under the bed and tries to entice the kitten to come out by offering it chocolate cake.
"Here kitty kitty, here kitty kitty." Alora does her best to look friendly and non-threatening (having a dead cockatrice on top her head might not be helping with this).
