Jan examines the stuffed griffin quite thoroughly, only to come to the conclusion, that the feathers are not the color he would like most and besides that, the whole thing is too big for his little nephew anyway. He thanks the owner of the shop for this demonstration and goes outside.
"I wonder, where our leader went. She must have been frightened by the griffin so much, she is hiding somewhere now." - says Jan out loud.
He also thinks to himself, that this is all very strange. Adventureres were needed here to solve the conflict with the druids and get rid of some monsters. But this castle looks just like one big fair. Hopefully Alora is allright.
Alora suddenly realises that she is all on her own? Shouldn't a party follow their leader? She goes back upstairs to gather her troops.
While heading up the stairs she starts musing that all the really good parties have super cool names like Gretek and his Maulers of the Undermountain and maybe things would go better if her party had a super cool name.
She muses on a few ideas (Alora's Band of Merry Fools? Alora and the Underlings?) until she hits on Alora's Marauders. Now that has a ring to it!
She hurries upstairs to tell her party their new name.
This is so exciting! They will be able to have secret code words that no one else will know. And she will make special badges for them to wear so people will know who they are. And they will need a club house where they can have important, secret meetings.
Arkanis look at the room with the label "The Club. While he is thinking about entering, the other members of the party go in the other shops, only Anomen remaining with him. Arkanis turn to Anomen and raise an eyebrow, while nodding with his head in the Club's direction. But before they can start moving a very upsetted Alora runs out from the Bazaar and go down on the staircase leading to the lower level. Arkanis turns with a sigh, and go after Alora. He is halfway down on the staircase, when the still giddy-paced halfling girl bump into him. Arkanis look at Alora questioningly.
Arkanis I've had a great idea. We're going to be called Alora's Marauders! Then everyone will know who we are. It will be like a secret society or something. Come on! Let's go an tell the others!
Suddenly… (OOC: Life has new meaning to me…. Sorry! Sorry! I'll behave!)
There is a scream from outside. Jaheira and Khalid have the clearest view through the door to the Herbalist's shop. A large group of rats has appeared in the corridor. Just normal rats, though they appear to be growing larger and more monstrous in size at a rapid rate….
OOC: 10 Giant rats have appeared. Party has initiative. Alora hears the screams but will take 2 rounds to get there, because she is downstairs at the present time.
OOC: am I close enough to any of our fighters to actually hide behind them? If I cannot cast and retreat, I'll just cast sleep. LadyRhian, did you just level up? Also, you probably have Jans AC wrong. He doesn't wear his leather armor right now.
Arkanis hear the uproar from upstairs and runs beside Alora. When he's up he swiftly surveys the battle and try to attack at the best position (where he can takes the attention of most rats).
Being afforded an excellent view of the outside area, Jaheira caught sight of the vermin at once. Unnatural, disease-ridden pests that they were, she decided to allow nature to flow through her: to inspire a rapid growth of clinging, and tangling, vines. This should slow the swarm of rats (they looked to be near a dozen in the chaos, if not more). Even better, it would help keep them corralled, and less able to overwhelm those in the party who were less inclined toward the combat arts.
"Praeses, Alia, Fero," Jaheira cried out, speaking the words of enchantment for alteration magic.
Jaheira casts Entangle
OOC: I loathe this spell, as it messes up my own party more than the monsters, and lasts forever! However, I used it twice during my first ever play of Baldur's Gate. First was in Nashkell, when the annoying dude followed me (Hey-a!) and paused everything a gazillion times. Entangled Noober and left him there. The second was when we were suddenly deemed the enemy in the city of Baldur's Gate. It stopped the guards and let us slip away...
*edit to add OOC nonsense for anybody interested *
OOC nonsense is a must in this forum OOC Am I even close to this fight? Last time Minsc was throwing some priests that were harassing Aerie away from her
@mlnevese - you're just inside a shop and everything between you and the door has been knocked down, or pushed aside. Evil, meet your sword. Sword, meet evil!
@reedmilfam You hear the screams. Everyone does. You can reach the rats this round if you run. Same with you @Nonnahswriter.
@cyberhawk These are giant rats. They are actually a pretty common animal/monster in the Realms. They are usually about 3' long and attacks with their teeth, which do about the same damage as a dagger. Some of them do carry disease- you're too far away to tell if any of these do from where you are.
OOC: What's our initiative? We've already got a Sleep spell and an Entangle cast, and Aerie's sure as heck not gonna charge into melee combat. She'll run outside to see what's going on, but her action after that would be determined by what's already happened by the time she gets out there.
"Thank you, Minsc," Aerie huffed as she dusted off her robes. But she couldn't relax for long--screaming erupted from the courtyard outside. Never one to stand idly by when someone was in trouble, Aerie gasped and grabbed Minsc's arm.
"Oh no. Screaming, Minsc! We have to help!"
And without waiting for his reply--because she was most certain he would follow her anywhere if it involved kicking Evil's face in--she began dragging him outside.
@nonnahswriter DM's love it when characters don't coordinate their attacks. Because it causes so much lovely, lovely chaos! ;) This is gonna be a cluster (fill in the blank here) so far. ::Sigh.:: Oh well, so much the better to learn tactics and coordination *before* you enter the dungeon!
@reedmilfam Sorry, I meant @minevese. Same goes for @scriver, though. If Jaheira *does* want to enter melee combat, it's going to take either of them to run to get there.

Players love it when DM divides us and springs surprises. Sarcasm aside, I think it's great - we're running in from all sides with no coordination because we're not together to coordinate. It's why I chose a cc option to start - give us time to regroup, etc. Seemed a good plan. Didn't mean to make it hard

My thinking is that the spells hit while people are on their way in. My guess is that Entangle is going to actually make a mess of things, but it was the only way I could see to keep the rats in one place for easy sniping and elimination. Kill de rats!
OOC: *goes into the other thread to remind herself what spells she had prepared*
Ah-ha! I did have Sanctuary memorized! I am awesome!!
Ahem. Anyway. Aerie's going to cast Sanctuary on herself, since she's the careful sort and she has no idea what she might be facing once she's outside.
Comments
She then starts to look around the underground area she is in. Is there anything else here apart from the door store?
OOC: I forgot to ask. How many hit points do I have?
