"Oh, thank you, self-proclaimed Omni-present authority figure," Jaheira snorted, for she didn't care a whit about a scream or two. After all, what could be more natural than an unsolicited response to nature's mysteries? Not that she minded them, at least when they were that small. "Of course, there was this one time, when my Khalid and I went to clear the spiders from a home near Beregost... They were a bit larger than these." And just as susceptible to the whack of a club!
*watches rear to defend against any creatures coming to investigate 3 girls screaming their heads off (and to stay as far away from the critters as possible)*
Will you 3 pipe down, you will draw attention to us. They're just harmless spiders (I hope).
Alora isn't screaming. She's dancing a tarantella (a dance that mimics someone stamping on tarantulas) but that's the only noise she is making.
Jaheira paid more attention to the spiders, mostly to see if they're of a variety that she recognizes. Contrary to common belief, she realized, many spiders were harmless, and even beneficial. Perhaps these are similar.
Then, again, some were of enormous size, and were toxic, to boot. If this was such a species, then they'd only found the babies. The parents, therefore, were nearby, and dangerous!
"Thank you, Arkanis." Ajantis nods, having lowered his shield to the floor to free one hand for spider sweeping purposes. He keeps his sword at the ready and glances frequently toward the room.
"I know these insects are part of nature's design, and no doubt necessary, but why must they be so crawly?"

OOC: It is Anomen. He will blame the girl for everything and anything that goes wrong within the party.
Hoping she wouldn't panic Aerie and Neera any more (her ears could not bear it), Jaheira tapped Alora's shoulder and beckoned her away from the tiny beasties. "These spiders grow larger. Much larger." As in dog-sized, if they were lucky.
OOC: kcwise's real life reaction to a swarm of spiders - AAAIIIEEE!!!!!!! GET THEM OFF OF ME!!!! GET THEM OFF OF MEE!!!!!! *begins the running, jumping, falling anti-spider slap dance*
These adult Spiders are probably Malamute sized. But you're lucky… they could have been Giant Spiders that are 8-12 feet in diameter (!). These ones are about half that. So, say, poodle size.
Following the relatively tiny (dollar-sized) spiders are three larger ones and some the size of dinner plates. Even with half the party seemingly freaking out and screaming their heads off, you win initiative. Actions?
OOC: Just an aside. Spiders freak me out as well. If spiders this large existed, I would be getting the Hell out of Dodge ASAP. As in "All my NO."
Neera hides behind Anomen since he's offering to be hid behind. If any move around Anomen Neera will smack the beast with her staff. "Anomen, do that heroic thing you do sometimes with the saving and stuff!"
Minsc missed. Anomen misses. Arkanis hits and chops a spider nearly in half. Neera misses. Alora hits one spider with a glancing blow, and Ajantis finishes it off. Jaheira misses.
The remaining Spider bits Alora on the ankle. She doesn't make her save, and feels violently ill, like she is about to die from vomiting herself inside out. She is messily sick everywhere (talk about your projectile vomiting!). This distracts everyone so much that the spider gains initiative. It goes after Anomen and bites his mace hand. He also fails his save and follows Alora in losing his lunch. Oops hides under Neera's hair, pressing his face into Neera's neck. He doesn't want to be vomited on!
Minsc whips around with his two-handed sword and cuts the spider into bits. Green, messy bits. This only further sickens Alora and Anomen. Between the rest of you, you smash the dinner-plate-sized spiders. Alora and Anomen finally run out of stuff to sick up and are stricken with dry heaves for another 10 minutes. The sound of two people trying to vomit when there is nothing left to come up is… disgusting. Finally, though, they recover, feeling weak and exhausted. This is now a very messy corridor.
Alora is fervently wishing that she hadn't eaten so much hard candy and tells herself she will never eat sweets again (before having a comforting piece of candy).
Neera will try and clean off any vomit that may have gotten on to her and pet Oops to comfort the adorable little guy. She'll then go to Anomen once he's recovered. "Hey, good job out there. Sorry I missed the spider. But at least we're mostly alright, right? I would offer something to help clean you off but I'm afraid I don't really have anything on me."
OOC: Unless I do have like some sort of extra cloth on me to use In which change the dialogue to she helps him clean himself off. I should probably keep my inventory better. I think all I have is my staff, my clothes, a shiny teal rock that glows like a torch, and Oops. We're not cleaning vomit with Oops, though.
Once Alora has recovered from her stomach pyrotechnics she will carefully explore the room the spiders she was in. She will keep a careful eye out for any eight-legged freaks that may be lurking in the webs.
While she was generally one with all things natural, vomit was not something she'd ever enjoyed. Fighting a strong urge to sympathy puke, she couldn't even take some small pleasure in Anomen's difficulties. "Spiders," she grumbled, although her problem was more with the toxin than the lovely creations, themselves.
You go back and head North. After about 70', the space opens up around into a huge L-shaped space. It may once have been a garden, but the other growth has been taken over by molds and fungi run riot in a variety of colors and shapes. Three containers in the north, east and west overflow with fungal matter in a variety of colors and shapes, puffballs, mushrooms, platter and shelf-shaped growth are everywhere, and the air dances with spores of all sorts. Having overgrown the planters, they have grown over the floor, walls, and even the ceiling.
The only thing that is even recognizable is a wall carving with the "Z&R" logo on it. It appears to have been pitted by the growth, with strangely regular depressions in the letters, except for one part of the "Z", which is bulbous instead.
Upon breathing the spore-filled air, Aerie covered her nose and mouth with her hand, then glanced at Jaheira. "Gods... I-Is it safe to be here, Jaheira? These fungi aren't poisonous, are they?"

Arkanis helps Ajantis to sweep off the spiders, while glancing at the room with wary gaze.

Calm down little friends! What evil are you running away from?

Arkanis charges the spiders behind the protection of his shield.

"Nobody talks about this sort of thing in the bardic tales."
