Can anyone with a bit more knowledge of D&D explain why the liches in this game are dressed like they are ready to smoke weed and drink herbal tea?

Even undead gotta bone, people.
I never realized liches were so fashion-conscious. No wonder that lich in Watcher's Keep was so concerned about his slippers!

The hat I justified as being inspired by the Mul or Untheric folks, the crypts beneath the Grave District are clearly Mul inspired. They liked highish hats back then for royalty.
Fashion is one thing... Practicality is another. As anyone who owns a horse and cart will know. Black carts show dirt. As do white. So... a colourful cloak or beige bandages are a real necessity to hide the dust of millenia.
Secondly... With immortality comes time to chill... Time to light the braziers in the dungeon to create the correct mood lighting... Time to... Well do whatever we darn please.
If I want to wear slippers in a red bathrobe while reading my favourite demonic lexicon... I ruddy well can!
As for herbal tea? Aaagh! Wet stuff! If the undead decided to drink personalised flavoured rotting bacterial incubating drinks... Well... Their would be... Uhm... More ghosts...
As for smoking... Fire and undead do not mix, plus the lack of neural receptors make it a waste of time. However, anything that kills you and dries you out, coating your lungs in preserving tar, at the same time is good! Hope to see you in a fashionable catacomb soon!
Methinks they're gangster, not hipster.
But now we gotta mock their fashion sense as well:(
But if you wish to refresh your memory banks @tresset t...
