Andromeda won't acknowledge choices from the original trilogy.
It doesn't matter which colour-coded ending you picked when you were chatting to the ghost kid at the end of Mass Effect 3, as your ending choice won't carry across to Mass Effect: Andromeda. It is in an entirely new galaxy, after all.
It does sound like there will be some nods to the original trilogy, however.
"It's important for us to have elements from the Trilogy for fans to have in the background," Mass Effect creative Mac Walters explained. "Ultimately this is intended to be a fresh story, but we want to have things for people to find and go 'oh, I remember that character'.
"There's a coalition [of Milky Way races]. We needed to find a way to make sure certain species you're familiar with come along with you on your journey to meet new ones. As in the tradition of Mass Effect, there will be certain people working together happily, and certain people working together less happily."
According to BioWare creative director Mac Walters, main characters in Andromeda will be brother and sister.
"We're seeing our male character, at E3 we got to see our female character. A little surprise here: These two are actually brother and sister.
“They both exist in the game world at the same time. If you're playing as the female Ryder, your brother is out there somewhere in the universe.”
"The character we saw two E3s ago, the N7, is actually your father. So we have got the full Ryder family revealed. We'll do names and things in the future."
Considering the massive implications of choosing the 'future' at the end of ME3, I still find it difficult to understand how that choice won't affect the new game, even though it's in a new galaxy. They have stated the protagonist is human thus he and she must come from Earth, which must be affected by the the choice.
I can understand, to some degree, why they did what they did but I had hoped that they shouldn't. Would preferred it if they would just choose one which thereafter became canon (and not the green one, even though I liked that choice).
I'm assuming that the Andromada expedition was a sleeper "ark" dispatched during the reaper invasion - i.e before the end of ME3. Thus, even though it is chronologically later, no one would know what happened back in the Milky Way.
Ok, so I watched some video of "what do we know so far about Andromeda" and you are prolly correct about the whole arc-thing. Feels a bit.. over-done to me.
I feel like they missed an opportunity by not adding more playable races, too much work I guess.. I'm not sure how the whole sibling will work out either, family stuff feels like a big anchor on the whole RP feel with your main character. I guess it depends on how intrusive it is.
I dunno.. I actually kinda liked the way they portraited the humans as the biggest assholes in the known universe. Humans came in late to the party, bullied their way in and wanted to take control of everything. It felt kinda like I would imagine humans acting if we actually did encounter other races. So it kinda makes sense Shephard was human.
Andromeda on the other hand, is a whole other story and making it humancentric was unnecessary. It was a blank slate, they could do whatever they wanted and still they force us into the role as a human. This time around I would indeed have enjoyed playing something else, like a Turian or maybe even a Volus.
Yes! I can play all ME trilogy on my Xone. Been waiting for that. I also have EA Vault so I don't have to disc switch... I wonder if my DLCs transfer over too... only one way to find out.
I just hope it is designed for PC gamers, as well.
On those grounds, I will not be pre-ordering this, or the next Dragon Age title. I'll feel, I admit, worse to be let down on Dragon Age but fair bit ill for Mass Effect too!
Looks good! The main char looks a bit.. standard though. At least I'm guessing that the white, young, slightly bearded, brown haired, average dude is the main protagonist.

Well, I imagine you can customise your appearance like the other ME games. We know you can be female (as the sister of the male protagonist). But it would be nice if the default look wasn't quite so WASPish for a change.
Can't say I'm up-to-date with information of this coming game. But since that one clip @Shandyr posted talked about three arcs with three different species, does that mean that players can finally play non-humans in the Mass Effect franchise?
If true, that would make it indeed a must-buy for me! If not, then meh...

Edit: Maybe a Hanar to top it off?
