"As long as you lead up the stairs, I'm amiable. I do not trust those stairs...In fact, perhaps we should tie ourselves off to one another? Ask me if I'm being overly cautious."
OOC: Gotta retrieve my Maise from the great outdoors. Otherwise she might get carried away and beat up all the cats in the neighbourhood and leave nothing for tomorrow.
"I can dance on the head of a pin as well." Yoshimo pulls the dead knight's rope from his pack. "I'm willing. Let's go up the main hall stairs, and if it will make you feel better, yes, I'll lead." He loops the rope around his waist and then ties off the other members of the group.
Okay. You head slowly up the stairs, testing each step before you put your weight on it, and then testing the next. You make it to the top of the stairs without incident, hugging the wall and keeping away from the mostly missing bannister. From here, you can see that, similar to the ground floor, three passageways lead east, west and north.
Yoshimo unties everyone and stows the rope in his pack. He looks around and shrugs. "West?" he suggests. "Something major happened up here in the east wing, and I'd rather clear the other two halls first."
You head west through the hallway surrounding the open area of the foyer Yoshimo crosses over, but the floor makes crackling noises about halfway across the floor. Xan crosses after him, and the floor makes cracking, popping noises. Minsc tries to run across, but his greater weight, and the vibrations caused by the running, cause the floor to give way. In a momant, Minsc falls through the floor and back to the ground floor. He's badly bruised from hitting the floor, scratched and hurt from the broken boards, but he'll live (6 points damage). However, there is now a gap in the floor of about 8' between Yoshimo and Xan and the rest of the party.
Well, there is the railing, but I don't think you are going to trust that. There is a door to the south down the Western hallway about 15 or so feet. You could tie a rope to the doorknob.
"I'd suggest climbing from the bottom floor up---crossing a make-shift rope bridge sounds like a poor idea" Tamoko says, eyeing her platemail and smiling ruefully. "Lower down a rope to us and we'll try climbing up."
OOC: Aka, the heavier yet not as strong people (Tamoko) get pulled up with the combined strength of the others. Or something. Yes?
Yoshimo ties off the rope to the doorknob and yanks as hard as he can, leaning his body weight against the rope to test the doorknob's willingness to stay put vs. a human's willingness to tear it out.
"It would be better to haul up someone like Mazzy first," Xan says. 'She weighs less. The more people we have hauling, the easier it will be to hoist the heavier people."
He frowns at the doorknob. "Yes, I agree that coming up from beneath is a better plan. I also agree that bringing Mazzy up first is the wisest course. Xan, if we leave the rope anchored as it is and both pull the rope up to assist our companions in joining us, hopefully, there won't be a lot of stress on our doorknob."
"My superior intellect grows restless with all this grunt work. Let me inspect the phial found in the desk while the more muscle bound members of the party haul each other about."
One moment, he was walking with the smaller ones, trying to think of why any man-witch would use color spray on a lady (and equally why Kivan and Tamoko wanted to share more of this story together), when his brain moved onto more important things. Like Full Plate, and Packing Steel. Important things, not color spray and magic. What did he learn to say from Boo? Eem-press-eev. Man witches wanted it to be called that word, but Minsc was the most impressive of alllllllllllllllllll...
Heroically, and largely, Minsc found himself crashing through the floor. The landing did hurt, but nowhere near as much as the tiny warrior, Mazzy, would feel. There were benefits to hugeness, namely in the butt-kicking category. "You're right, Boo," Minsc muttered. "Hamster squeaks are good. Floor squeaks tell us there is evil afoot!"
"Shall I bookmark this for you? He's just cast color spray on the busty wench and she's been dazed at the..." Smirking, Tamoko places the romance in her pack alongside poetry.
"I did not know color spray included the color white."
After his successful climb, Minsc wonders at why it takes so much effort to enable one man to climb. "Why red in the face?" he wonders aloud. "Perhaps you need more exercise with sword!" Which reminded him of something. "Sometimes, Boo needs his exercise. If he does not, he will bite us all in hard to reach places!"
Full of himself for the moment, he reminsced, "Ah, the Wisdom of Boo. Heroes, space and legends." He'd forgotten something again - an important fourth thing. "And swords! Swords for everyone!"
Unable to decide which path is better, Minsc moves to the northwest corner to ponder the wisest move. "Which is better, Boo? Aw, he is sleeping. Waking him earns hamster bites, so Minsc will let him sleep."

Edwin holds a slender hand out to Yoshimo.
