@skini82 Unfortunately, there isn't. We can just hope that one day they will release a patch for DVD version as well, but I doubt it.
That's not good...
I know they are continuing to look at this. I am not sure what the hold up is, maybe trying to get one or two more patches out so they can package all up into a big patch set to post as an .iso maybe?
why an iso? why anything complicated? it's the same damn files. any modder can create a patch, and those jokers can't WHY?!?!?
I don't have any special insight into it other than as a long time software support engineer IRL. I mentioned an .iso format since it can be easily burned to a DVD, or just right click it in Windows 10 and mount and it shows up as a new drive letter E: or F: or whatever. Also, patches which are planned to be mass distributed via DVD are always complicated and are never simple due to the absolutely pressing need to get it right. It is too expensive to make a mistake.
I don't think it is a technical issue, I think they are either waiting for one more patch so as to put out a very stable version on DVD for you folks, or maybe there is a legal issue with the company they contracted with to do the original DVD releases.
I don't believe for one second that Beamdog is trying to screw anyone over or intended to put you (or them!) into a position like this. Or that they would have let this drag out if the solution were really that simple. There is probably something else we are unaware of influencing this process.
Update: I would actually bet on them trying to get the updates right, especially for multiplayer. I was reading some threads in the troubleshooting forum last night and I think they have identified the main trigger for the multiplayer problems as containers, especially when held by characters in certain positions in the order. I don't see a public bug report filed for it yet but it seems that multiplayer is the last "big" bug in the system after 2.2 was released. There was still a few smaller issues but not too much left.
How exactly do I update the EE version of BG1? I have the dreaded 2.0 patch installed and I am getting no options to update to 2.2. Do I have to manually download the patch somewhere?

It came up for me after a few seconds when I started the launcher, an Apply Updates button showed up and the play button got moved to the right. Is this the Beamdog client or the PC client? I have the PC client. Try the little button in the lower right and do a Reset Registration maybe.
When an iOS version will be updated? Will it be ever? You could give us any clue regarding the future, as right now it is hard to make a decision what platforms seem “stable” for the future updates and new games.
If there are no plans for iOS update, just tell us.
iOS, Mac and Android will come when prime bugs in PC are eliminated. 2.2 was a big step, maybe we'll have 2.3 yet. Then putting the bug fixes to the other platforms will take place, and then the tedious submitting to the app stores starts and will take its time again. Ios is especially bad here with apple's gate keeping, so it makes no sense to rush a patch to the store if chances are high the next patch is ready before the old one is released yet. That's how apple wants to have it, and if users still buy and use this platform, they must be doing something right obviously. Beamdog can't do much about this situation. As a developer I can say there is no rapid release our agile development if the app store is between dev and user.
If you do not feel comfortable with the App Store than why publish the game there in the first place? The current version is 1.3 from 10 Feb 2015 – a lot of time since the last update.
I understand the complexity of maintaining various versions, ports and distribution channels, but if you decide to be on the App Store (or any other store), you should be prepared to maintain it. So please spare the “bad Apple platform rant” as nobody forces anyone to be there. And yes, it sucks for most of the time, but iOS gamer are nor the ones to blame – and somehow punish, by lack of updates. ;-)
Apart from all above, an information for us, the App Store customers, who participated in the success of the BG come back by spending our money (I have bought all the additional stuff for both BG 1 an 2), would be welcome – just to let us know what to expect.

How do you install apps that aren't published in the app store on an unjailbroken device?
It will be maintained, this was announced several times, but with the vague plan to fix things first where fixes are fast, then port them to the slow platforms and then distribute it there. Last time it took unbelievable 15 month until 1.3 reached the app store after released on the direct platforms. it won't take that long anymore, i'm rather sure about that. But the pace the platform allows is just slooooow – it's not criticism, it's just describing facts, but as apple is the sole controller of that eco system, it's only apple who is criticised if things are bad.
Standalone direct distribution is just more agile and we had 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 within a bit more than a month – this may be frustrating for users who are tied to a slower platform (i'm using 1.3 on android yet besides 2.2 on Windows), but it's more like a plus for the faster platforms, no lack of support on the slower ones.
Why go to appstore if not feeling comfortable? to look for new audience for a game, and the hope it's not that bad actually to support. after all, this was rather successful if i read beamdog right, especially android was a surprise sales wise. it may still turn out to be a drag process wise later.
To clarify, it took 15 months for the critical 1.2 patches to reach the app store, rolled in as part of the 1.3 update. The 1.3 update itself took only 10-12 weeks to reach the app store, and that seemed mostly playing catch-up with updated App store requirements since the last time they had submitted.
BeamDog's policy is now to not comment on future patches, other than the immediate one in progress (which is still not for the App store). They don't want to accidentally commit to something that they fail to deliver, and so disappoint us. No matter how much they say something is not a firm delivery deadline, there are always folks who will troll around newsgroups and forums and say they lied and failed to deliver on a promise...
And yes, this means that they are in the position of not being able to commit to delivering a patch in less than 15 months for fear of running late. Better to live with the concern that they are not able to deliver a patch in any timeline at all (although I have not directly asked if they can commit to delivering in under a decade yet - for some questions, the answer ceases to matter )
Does the game load sound files differently now compared to the way it did in the 1.3 version? I've never used to get lag with sound playing before, but since 2.0 it seems to be a common occurrence for me. It mostly happens with inventory and character selection sounds, for example while looting and when issuing orders to party members.
Sound lag while looting also seems to cause the looted items to disappear occasionally. E.g. the looted item is no longer in the container, nor is it in the inventory, it's just gone.
Updates are patches, so one can't break the other. On the other hand, if you have mods, there's a chance a patch/update will break them. Your best bet is to start with a clean uninstall and install. Keep your saved games, of course. They should work again once you've reinstalled the updated game and your mods. Some mods may need to be updated as well, but that's not likely with the latest patch.
All dialogue for me now has "Invalid ######" instead of text (the ###### are actual numbers like the poster above me show).
Steam version 2.2.66.0
EDIT: I've read that updates break patches. Is there a way to continue my game with the new patch at all, or am I forced to restart from scratch?
Usually that dialogue problem means you need to restart from scratch from my experience, but sometimes you can get lucky and jackjack's approach can work.
I must concur to the consensus, and - unfortunately - even with the same mods reinstalled clean, sometimes the Invalid or corrupted dialogue stuff comes up. I've been successful restarting with mods which probably shouldn't work (like DSOTSC or DH) that had terrible garbled strings when old saves were ported. Currently on my newest play through (because my old ones didn't port well) everything is working and even being properly affected by portrait enhancing mods and SCS/IWDification/Anthology tweaks.
The last update has seriously stabilized my gaming experience, though sound sets can still be a bit dicey - especially if not done through Weidu...
I meant the patch broke my mods. Thanks for the suggestions. If I have to restart, I guess I'll probably skip this game entirely (my general backlog is too big to be fiddling).
I'll try to disable/re-enable the mods first however.
Updates are patches, so one can't break the other.
They certainly can. There's a whole area of software development about patches breaking the software, including previous patches: Regression testing.
In software development a modified version of Murphy's law applies: "Everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Plus, a few things that cannot possibly go wrong at all, in any situation, no matter what, will still go wrong anyway".
@Alonso I saw a nice talk at the ACCU conference a few years ago by Roger Orr that I am sure you would have enjoyed, about writing "better bugs". The most effective bugs are those that escape past all your testing, but show up on first contact with the customer... Sadly, before they were video taping the sessions.
