I didn't know about the keybinds. Think you're right about servers though. I remember there only being two options. It must have been during installation.
@Shandyr , yes, thank you, I found the keybinding options. My problem isn't movement. I put that on the arrow keys on the right side of the keyboard, and that's where I need it.
My problem is attacking, and interacting with objects in the environment. There's no option to rebind those, and other needed functions. "F" to interact is especially inconvenient. If I could move it to the enter key, or the space key, that would make it playable for me. (Why space for jump? I want jump somewhere else too.)
I usually bind my combat rotations to the num pad keys. There's no way to do that here. I can bind all kinds of functions to home, end, page up, page down, and delete keys in most games. Not with this one.
Neverwinter Online is just not playable to me without much more extensive key rebinding functions. I've never seen a game before where I couldn't develop my own control scheme and enjoy it just fine. I don't know why they forced so many important game functions to such weird keys. I mean, I understand the default control scheme - it's for people who like the WASD system. But every other WASD game I've played has total key rebinding available for people who don't like WASD. This game forces its defaults, except for those few camera functions in the menus you point out. That's what I don't understand. Would it be *that* costly for them to include better customization for the controls?
I'm really sorry to let you down like this. It looks like a great game that I'd love to play. But I just don't do WASD, and it's going to wind up stressing me out if I have to control a game with my left hand like that. Not being able to click on stuff in the environment, or even on things like inventory and character sheet, make me feel like I'm in a world where my hands are tied, or being paralyzed. It makes me feel anxious and frustrated. Those are not the emotions I play a game to feel.
Thanks for letting me rant about it a bit. I'll shut up now and let everybody talk about and enjoy the game.
Well, I feel really stupid now. You know what the problem was? My middle-aged eyesight. The scroll bar on that keybinding window was so small, I couldn't see it, without being told to squint and look for it, so I thought the top of that window was all there was. Derp.
I've now managed to put my controls where I need them to be able to play.
@Shandyr , thank you so much for being patient with me. I did all that whining and bee-atching over a non-existent problem. You are a saint. You should be in tech support or something. (BTW, your patience tells me that you are a most excellent tutor of students. You don't give yourself enough credit on that. )
A lot of the interface elements are too tiny for me to see the key references easily, but I can see them now if I squint really hard.
So, I guess I'll spend the next several hours leveling and figuring out the game.
@Shandyr , Is there a way for us to friend request each other in the game so we can talk in a private channel?
Also, it would be very helpful if you could give us a list of slash commands that might help us find and talk to each other in the game. Another helpful thing would be to keep a list of forum members who are playing the game currently.
Do we send friend requests by character name or account name? My account name is the same as here, belgarathmth.
I beat the boss in the Neverwinter starting area. It was quite exciting. I love my cleric so far.
Glad you're enjoying it so far @BelgarathMTH . You need to use your character name and your handle which is whatever it is after the '@' symbol after your character name e.g. mine is ArcadiaMoonshadow@sparkleav#3418 (I still don't know if there's a space between my first and last name when you search players). You basically send them an friend request, I'm not sure if the person has to be online for you to find them in the people search though. Actually being in the same instance as your friends is a lot tougher as @Shandyr and I found out earlier
Edit: Easiest and quickest way to find your handle is if you right click on your portrait in-game.
I just created a chat channel called Social and only allowed social chat in there, i.e guild stuffs and friends, there's a whole bunch of check boxes. Makes it easier to see what people are saying without the rest of the in-game chat drowning it out. I just right-clicked on your name and selected 'Tell' but chat commands will be even better. I'll take a look at that link now
Edit: The only thing I can't see on there is if you want to send a message to just one person, using /Tell (/t) or /Whisper (/w) do you have to type in the whole name or does it fill in automatically if they're a friend? Our names are long, not very practical if you have to type it out every time. Will have to try it out.
@Vallmyr , could you please share your game handle(s) so I can send you a friend request? It should look like "CharacterName@Vallmyr#****" , assuming you used "Vallmyr" as your account name. If not, it'll be your account name after the @ .

Might buy the Knight of the Feywild pack for the Sylph companion and Unicorn mount if I keep playing this like a month from now
Edit: Also after playing the NWN OC and NWN2 OC seeing Neverwinter is great. Might be my favorite city.
Edit the second: Just had a chat with another Drow NPC about how the Underdark sucks, awesome XD

My character is a human cleric named Todangelus.
