@ShYariv Correct! It is Bessie the cow who belongs to Drush the ogre mage! Bessie is always in the ruined tower but Drush only appears when you are on the quest. The sword Belm (the sharp thing) can be found in one of the cow's haystacks (food) there. Drush trades the gong (which he was using as a shovel) for a Wand of Frost (the stick). I imagine the cow may have been feeling strange due to the trouble with the local druids telling the animals to attack Trademeet. As for the messes and the bad smell, well, that should be obvious now...
