@Harpagornis Do you (or somebody else :P) know whether the Root of the Problem club works vs Big B? As far as i read you can get the club in a druid related quest in SoD and the +3 enchantment is supposed to work on anything but humans and animals. Since the "monster" tag is neither a race nor class I can't look it up in EE-Keeper.
Thinking about dualing a swashbuckler at level 6 into a cleric, but the only weapon they can spec in is clubs.
Perth the Adept wasn't so adept of attacking me, got his book of spells which may come useful. Apparently LoB makes some npc's pretty slow reacting to assassinations
I'm in the dream right now, but Sarevok doesn't follow me inside, and he can't be killed, what to do?
@semiticgod Thanks, don't know what's wrong with this install. First had to create Neera for the cutscene in Bridge District, then Rasaad and now Sarevok. These have never happened me before.
Got into the Asylum and found Bag of... Imoen and sent her on her merry way. Man Bag of Holding, surely the most important item in the game, after Boots of Speed perhaps. Ploughed through the dungeon, Test Kobolds provided another need for Throwing Axe, isn't it game breaking if you don't have ranged weaponry onhand?
Finally confronted Irenicus, again much improved Irenicus. Tried just straight on onslaught, but got my ass quickly handed by Fallen Planetar, went invisible and kited it until it got unsummoned. At the same time rest of my help got massacred. Waited rest of his summons to dissappear and just Gww'd Irenicus down. Thought great, got him in first try. Not so fast. Murderers quickly surrounded me, couldn't move so I went invisible, healed and tried to fight them all at once. Could've probably succeeded, except my evil twin who was parked in a corner duration of the fight quickly joined and I got killed. Man I would hate stuff like this to happen in no-reload run. Anyway second try and this time I was prepared for the invisible murderers who didn't have help from my evil twin.
City of Caverns, nothing really interesting here except some items, which concluded chapter 4.
I read somewhere that EE fixed the Equalizer offhand damage bonus to mainhand, is this true?
@histamiini While I can't guarantee Equalizer didn't get fixed I'm quite certain it didn't, since it improved my damage on quite a few test builds. It was all purely from my perception tho, never did proper tests.
Chapter 17 Underdark, wasted Balor with no resistance, but couldn't free Vithal because no freedom spell, is there anything for Cavalier? Used Mindflayers to clear almost all Beholders in the Beholder dungeon, then killed them. Hivemother Imprisoned me once, but not twice. Elder Orbs succumbed under Simul and Gww. Bumbed intelligence to 25 in the Mindflayer dungeon, and was doing very well without any of my powers. Then before the last door it spawned huge horde enemies. Dispersed them throughout the dungeon and hunted them one by one. The Master Brain room, alerted the mob and used the corridor and door as a chokepoint to melee everything one by one.
Did all the mundane task in Ust Natha. Was able to tank all the Kuo Toans in Kuo Toan dungeon, there were lot of them. Needed one rest and Simul against Prince because he had so high regen. Demon Knights were pretty tough and had to use all my powers against them. All in all, killed and looted everything in Underdark and hit Cavalier max level 34.
Chapter 18 Went to start a buying spree in the Adventurers Mart. It was good to be back, except Kruin and his band spawned inside and raped everything there. This wont do so I had to load again, but this time I dispersed them throughout the Promenade and hunted them all with the help of the guards. It was funny when I went invisible, the guards just kept meleeing the Githanki and they didn't react in any way. Easy peasy.
Was missing the last item on Crom Fayer, so why don't get that off from the schedule? Oh yeah why not. Well one thing, you can't. How in earth is one supposed to beat this dungeon? 5 Mindflayers teleport constantly on to you, devour 25 Int like in few seconds, Imprison you and so on. And they aren't even interested in summons, but just teleport onto you. And if that wasn't tough enough, how about twice the Flayers in the last room? Well forget this.
Or not. Put on Spell Turning and quickly looted everything in the table, and ran like crazy slaloming huge horde of enemies out of there, and quickly out of sewers as they followed me there.
Has anybody beat everything in that dungeon? Seems like hardest place yet.
Hello again dear challengers! I havent been here for some time so i am very happy to get up to date again. As my health dropped near to 0 in the last week i had to take a total break. No internet. No gaming. No everything. Just surviving. With new life running through my veins i will try to rejoin the challenge - well - i already did. But thats for later!
Some points after reading through the posts:
- Easiest way to solve Tenyas´s quest: Kill Tanner, get the Bowl with a Morningstar +1 and bring it to Tenya. No fight, no risk.
- Regarding Amelyssan: Would i have known more about this fight i might have picked several Stunning Blows instead of GWW as its the only option to stop her onslaught. Your damage calculation looks nice @histamiini but dont forget that you have to kill EVERYONE else before you can even touch Amelyssan. Not to forget: In my installation the SCS+LoB scripts sometimes go crazy. In one battle for instance Abazigal will do more or less nothing while in the next one he hunted me down like crazy, hit like a truck and also uses his magic (Time Stop!!). Its also essential to neutralize Sendai at all cost with a PfM-scroll otherwise she will heal everyone to full health again and again. I still hate this fight as a Barbarian. Maybe a well prepared Cavalier has better chances here. Bringing everyone close to 0 and then kill them fast one after another will be your only chance to stop Amelyssan doing her dirty stuff. If she manages to call several demon waves or get in a well timed Time Stop it might be over very quickly. Some demons (forgot which one) are able to gate in more demons so it happened to me more than one time that an army of 50+ demons were hunting me - which trapped me down at some point.
- Dont take any risks of getting Potions of Heroism. In late SoD you will get dozens Potions of Power in the Crusader Attacks and - if you wait some time - after the Siege of Dragonspear. In one run i was close to 100 Potions of Power after waiting for nearly 30 minutes during the Siege. What an overkill.
- Yes, the Root of the Problem Club can damage Big B @Victor_Creed_SFV!
- The Mindflayer Dungeons? I usually skip them! No risk, no death!
Okay, so far for that part. The last week in hindsight has pushed me trying out another char thats fits perfectly into this episode: Bringing the power of renewal into the sick lands Sir Marcas, the Human Priest of Lathander has started his journey. As i was healthy enough to play a bit in the last two days he already has beaten Sarevok and is ready to start SoD. With his Skeleton Warriors and Lathanders Boon he washed away most opposition while the rest was either charmed or - like Sarevok - burned down with Wand of Heaven. If he survives SoD i might dual class him to Fighter in SoA pretty much like Eklun the Totemic Druid. But first: Lets get some good shots at Korlasz!
Damn Chromatic Demon was tough, fight lasted like 15 minutes and had to use both RoR's. Did most damage with his cold form with Stonefire Axe and OGL, but ofcourse he had his slime form most of the time which I had least things to damage. I'm fairly sure that computer was doing this on purpose and cheating the random function.
Well, well - that was a perfect start into SoD and - once more - i can state: The Priest of Lathander really rocks this challenge so far! Up to six Skeleton Warriors take away any harm from the Priest while also doing a lot of damage. Too much for most opponents. Together with Holy Might + Boon of Lathander he has 2 APR and hits for 17-20 damage per sling shot - not bad. But back to Korlasz.
The route through the catacombs was easy:
1. Used Sanctuary and sneaked to the door hiding Porios. Opened it and once invisibility dropped the talking immediately triggered. Peaced him up and soaked some nice XP. 2. Went downstairs and buffed up with PfU and Sanctuary. Sneaked to the door mechanism that opens the path to Korlasz and charmed the Assassin out of invisibilty on first try. 3. Together with his new friend Sir Marcas moved on - time for preparation. Five Skeleton Warriors and the Assassin were placed around Korlasz so the Mage was not able to move in any direction. 4. Buffed up with Haste, Holy Might & Boon of Lathander (3 APR!) and started the onslaught. As Korlasz was unable to keep her defenses up fast enough her HP dropped down quite fast so the only thing Sir Marcas had to watch out were the backstabbing Shadow Dancers. Shortly after the fight was over.
Korlasz dropped to injured and the surrender talking triggered. Good! Time to take all the precious loot and move on to the city of Baldurs Gate once more! Not to forget: Here is a picture which shows that in the end ALL Skeleton Warriors were still up. Only the charmed Assassin went down to his friends - too bad. Level 9 reached.
P.S. Keep going @histamiini! The Axe of Unyielding for instances - if you can get it - is worth some pain!
Is there any way of finding what stats the mage Tiefling who's with Aesgareth has? I'm trying to kill Aesgareth but this mage lmao, he has Improved Alacrity, like 3 Time Stop contingency and does also everything else. I tried Charm and Mental Domination on him and didn't work.
CTRL Q does nothing for me. Anyway found him with NearInfinity, he has save vs. spell 4 and vs. breath 7, which should give me chance to charm with Nymph cloak correct? Also Aesgareth has save vs. spell 6 so I should be able to Mental Dominate him, but this doesn't work before I've exhausted his dialogue line correct? Atleast I got through his MR and Saves couple times, but nothing happened.
Aesgareth. After some tries and fails, finally got this. First charmed the cleric Tiefling with Nymph's Cloak, got him to other side of the cave and murdered him 1on1. Then charmed the thief and killed him. Then charmed the mage and tried to take him 1on1 but couldn't no matter what I tried, everyone always joined the battle. So I made the mage attack Aesgareth, and he got quickly killed. Then I lured the couple Fell Cat's to other side of the cave and killed them. Lastly used Deva and Simul to kill Aesgareth and last of his fighters. That was fun fight. I'm going to take the Warder's Signet and 10 hp (first time ever) from the Deck of Many Things.
Sir Marcas took it really slow in the city of Baldurs Gate cause he not only wanted to solve all quests but also get enough gold for the upcoming challenges. Whenever fighting was necessary the Skeleton Warriors once more proved their value so Sir Marcas was never in any kind of danger. The only thing that was annoying like always: Killstealing Corwin. I dont like this girl...
Mentionable items aquired: - Shield of Egons (Tun Undead level +2) - Ring of Protection +2 (always welcome) - Lons Amulet (more hits, more damage) - 80x Oil of Speed (thanks Imoen!) - Spectacles of Spectacles (you know them)
After getting all supplies Sir Marcas left Baldurs Gate with 300k+ XP and nearly 50k gold. But even more important is that his courage and an unbreakable faith will guide him on his journey. Lets see if its enough!
P.S. Yeah, keep going @histamiini. Will Sir Vanderley reach the Evil One? Will he even be able to beat it? We will see!
LoB monsters get +12 to all their levels. You're not gonna turn any undead until Shadows of Amn, and even then it's a tall order. A Shadow is level 17 in LoB mode; a vampire is level 21-24; and liches are level 30-47.
I was already planning an evil strategy for the Crusader Attacks and - yeah - that was my own downfall. With the mind already moving to the future Sir Marcas died a very unexpected death even though he was nearly fullly buffed: Immune to Fire, Electricity, Charm, Leveldrain, Death effects, Maze while also shielded with 75% MR he defeated Tsolak the Vampire and was hunting him down to his cave. But on the way into his lair something really weird happened:
I knew that there are several traps but in the past they never ever hit that hard. 98 Damage? Game over!
What a painful loss - still cant believe it. I had activated this trap so often in the past and it was never going past 80 damage - which Sir Marcas would have survived. The moment i really started to like the Cleric class even more death was only one step away. After several seconds of silence i was thinking about a restart but - for whatever reason - couldnt motivate myself.
Therefore i asked my old friend @Vynn which character he is playing right now. His answer made me smile: A Fighter/Cleric! Really? As he is also doing no-reload only i decided to join his cause. Or with other words: In the next days we will try playing Xaghul, the Dwarven Fighter/Cleric together. Right now he is heading towards the final conflicts with Slythe and Cythandria coming next. Skeleton Warriors ready! Time for some slaughtering...
@Harpagornis There can only be one Sir trecking towards Throne of Bhaal.
After defeating Aesgareth, I quickly hit'n'run Ka'Rashur for his gem, then tried the same for Tahazzar, Not so fast. Damn that took a lot of tries. Finally after killing him, were I able to tank the mob long enough to get freedom with both RoR's. But what was the hardest room in the Maze? Not Aesgareth, not Ka'Rashur, not Tahazzar, not even the Demon Wraith (although only bothered with it once), but the freaking room with the obelix in the center. Haha there's like 10 enemies there who summon like another 20, then several of them launch cloud attacks so the roomis completely packed with enemies and gas. When I entered in there I was like, nope see ya. I would like to see somebody tackle that room.
Machine of Lum the Mad. Bumped INT to 25 and lowered my saves with Invulnerability potion. Grinder my way through Mindflayer dungeon, was even able to tank 10 Mindflayers/Ulitharids and kill 5 of them, before I escaped to outside to rest and save. Then took the rest of them. Didn't bother with the Vampiric Ulitharids but just took the potion and ran out of the room before the doors closed. Githyanki encampment consisted the same formula, lure some of the opponents in the main room and kill some of them. Go outside, rest, invisibility, in, summon and kill. The last battle with Rock and Garock were probably the easiest one. Got the Axe of Unyelding and stat boosts from the machine.
I'll still try to get those nice Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization from the Final Seal level before moving towards Bodhi.
Nice progress @histamiini - keep going! The upgraded AoU will work great later on in ToB!
I have taken a look at the Priest of Tyr. Holy cow! This one looks incredible strong once higher levels are reached. I somewhere read a post from @semiticgod where he calculated that the highest backstab damage comes from Priest of Tyr -> Thief. But what about dualing him to Fighter?
I tested a bit and with Sling of Everard, Draw upon Holy Might, Righteous Magic, Aid, Gauntlets of Weapon Mastery, Divine Favor and GWW he dealt 10x37=370 damage per round. Not that bad...
What wonders me about Divine Favor: It stacks. Too bad its two rounds so only one cast before GWW madness. Its also capped at +6 hit & damage even though there is nothing mentioned like this in the description.
Dualing the Priest at level 22 would gain him Deva and 8x Fighter HLA´s. Energy Blades also work with Divine Favor but i am not sure if its worth another level. Has anyone played the Priest of Tyr extensively and can give me some advice? Maybe @semiticgod?
P.S. I realized that Divine Favor also boosts the hit chance of Harm. I like that!
@Harpagornis, a Priest of Tyr is better suited for parties imo. The exaltation ability frees disabled companions, so that doesn't really help for a solo character, except for summons. The Divine Favor ability has a very short duration. It's a nice boost for GWW madness as you say, though Righteous Magic and Duhm work just fine for that. Divine Favor does seem nice for landing a Harm, but then as a Cleric of Tyr/Fighter you shouldn't have much difficulty landing Harms anyway.
For Cleric duals to Thief, Lathander seems the best kit, because of the extra attacks. Helm works pretty well too thanks to the Seeking Sword. You can't cast while using the sword, but if you've dualled into Thief you may not be casting that much during battle in the first place.
For Cleric duals to Fighter, a case could be made for Talos as the preferable kit because of the defensive properties of their Storm Shield ability (100% resistance to fire, cold, lightning, and normal missiles). The extra attacks and thac0 boosts of Tyr, Helm and Lathander aren't as appealing because you'll have plenty of that as a warrior anyway.
Good luck with your next attempt. I kind feel like rejoining the challenge, but have no idea what class to go with.
Comments
I think R/C is really strong without them, especially being able to combine skeletons with Druid summons would be a bit much.
Do you (or somebody else :P) know whether the Root of the Problem club works vs Big B?
