I am too tired to check if someone posted these already but I want to finish this stupid topic once and for all:
(While Edwin is a woman) Minsc: Boo does not understand. It is not as though the scoundrel will be missed, but where has Edwin gone and who is this woman who wears his clothes? Edwin: I will not be scrutinized for the sake of your rodent! Mind your own concerns, you stone-headed oaf! Minsc: Such a temperament! Fire in her belly and not afraid to spit in the eye! It reminds me of the fighting women of my homeland! Ah sweet lady, you bring me tears. Edwin: Tears indeed! Stand away lest I bring you a fireball as well! (Such suffering I must endure! The pain behind my eyes does grow steadily!)
(While Edwin is a woman) Edwin: What!? Why do you stare at me so, barbarian!? Minsc: You bear handsome features, though they are familiar, too. Edwin’s sister perhaps? Aye, Boo sees the resemblance? You are his superior in your manner though. Edwin: I AM Edwin you fool! Can you not comprehend this!? Minsc: I don’t do well with the philosophical. You are Edwin? Ah, like Minsc is Boo and Boo is Minsc because we carry each other within. Do you like hamsters? Boo likes you. Edwin: If you do not wish to be the proud owner of a very small rug you will get that hamster away from me. Minsc: I see more and more of Edwin in your tone, though you are still better than he. Boo will forgive you, for now. Edwin: (I will kill ALL of them. Slowly. With ... with HOT pokey things and ... and coals and ... and prods. Yessss, prods. Many, many prods.) Minsc: I think she warms to our company, Boo. See how she looks longingly?
And again:
Viconia: Minsc, that tattoo on your face. Does it have tribal significance or did some nursery’s fingerpainting class assault you with blue pastels? Minsc: I do not like the tone of your voice, dark elf! The face I have is the face the ladies love! Boo love’s Minsc’s face, too. Don’t you, Boo?
So he is not gay, never was, just simply... well... not too smart!
I view Minsc's relationship with Dynaheir as being akin to a retainer to a great and noble lady- he protects her, she helps him learn herbcraft (directly spoken of in BG2 dialogue with Aerie). I don't think he'd connect with Dynaheir in that way, because, as a wychlaran, she is as above him in status as a noblewoman is to her devoted bodyguard. Even if they had to share a bed for warmth (to survive, let's say), he'd keep her as warm as possible, but hold her in a non-sexual way as not to make her uncomfortable.
Actually I think this debate cannot end until we reach the conclusion that everyone is free to interprete Minsc in his or her own playthrough the way he has most fun with.
As long as people will interprete Minsc in one and only one way and act like there is no other way of interpretation this debate will go on.
"So he is not gay, never was, just simply... well... not too smart! " That for example is your interpretation of Minsc.
Whilst I'm quite happy for people to avoid reaching conclusions on anything to avoid hurting each others feelings, and you are welcome to reach the conclusion that Minsc hitting on a lady is a sign that he's secretly packing steel for Edwin and it's just coming out when he meets Edwin's hot sister, I'm inclined to say that Minsc's love of the ladies *is* rather well portrayed in those examples (and the fact that Edwina, being from the same geographical region as he, is showing some qualities he appreciates that just aren't present in Sword Coast girls), his love of quiet walks on the beach with Ajantis is not nearly so well documented in canon.
@Shandyr No, not that I am aware of. The wikia mentions... (ugh) Abdel Adrian, so it may be the Phillip Athans (gag) book that is considered "Canon". Even though they use the game picture of Minsc (in the book, Minsc has long, red hair and a beard of the same, and would rather work at an inn than adventure.)
At any time I state "you are", please feel free to substitute "one is". However what you are claiming is basically an empty statement; one is always free to conclude what they wish from the evidence presented to them, as life is a transient illusory state shaped by the prejudices inherent in our own minds, suggesting people are somehow bound to reach the same conclusions based on the same evidence would be the same as denying human nature. Relativism is inevitable, but at the same time it is neither helpful, nor particularly interesting in comparison to consensus.
Now, as per your question, if you were to play Fighters in your playthrough never equipping anything but Clubs, Staves, Hammers and Flails, would the Fighter class share the same weapon restrictions as clerics do? You might claim that, for your particular playthrough, that was the case, however I am doubtful that many would accept the validity of the statement for the game or the class in general; most would point out that Fighters can use any weapon, and show evidence of themselves using said weapons in-game.
In this case however, one could presumably point to Fighter/Clerics, and say that at least sometimes, Fighters cannot use every weapon.
In a similar way, claiming that Minsc does not love the ladies because in your campaign you did not trigger the scenes that are present in-game is liable for the exact same treatment it has already received; someone will point out all the places where he suggests otherwise.
However, unlike the Fighter/Cleric example, there is no counterpoint, at no time, unless the player outright mods their game to make it so, does Minsc suggest that he and Khallid drop their respective beards and go grab dinner, or tell Haer'Dalis to stop hitting on his witch when there's a real man standing right there for him.
It's fun to take a closer look at his lines (and like Quartz said, see how many of them are crazy-go-nuts), it's fun to explore the possibility (and see how secure the man is to make that "Flowers" comment), but whilst we can all agree that he's a hunky love machine, one doesn't have to be a party-pooper to note that yeah, he's probably at most bisexual, given the content in-game.
If someone's feelings are somehow hurt that their personal fanon in-game (I shall ignore the idea of canon across the D&D universe as irrelevant and stick with the games for now, because we all know the books are terrible), then I would suggest that this is indicative of a deeper, more serious issue and would sincerely recommend they seek counselling for their future psychological well-being.
Pretty moot debate. The player is obviously also free to interpret Minsc as a pedophile (omg, look at how eager he is to help the little boy from Imnesvale) or whatever else the game doesn't directly express that he isn't, for all that will change.
Our PC = gay. Ok i can accept that. Forgotten realms have gay people. True. But at the end of ToB you become a god. Never heard of gay gods. So lets see what you will you think to do about that when it comes to there. bb

Ah, so Edwin is into hot pokey prods! Clearly Edwin is gay then.
No, but even as a man, he would still be interested in hot pokey prods. Clearly as Edwina, he is still Edwin trapped in a womans body, so her actions still reflect upon Edwin as a male.
This forum has way too many threads about homosexuality. Sure you can talk about whatever pleases you, but I get a feeling that these threads are fueled by the wrong reasons, mostly people fighting over their own vision of the story. My suggestion is find a more interesting topic, the game is huge and hundreds of messages are being wasted discussing the most basic instict.
I'am betting you guys dont read those gossip crap mags in real life so dont turn this forum into one... Should probably have said this on the other topic, but would get even more flamed...
This is a ridiculous post. However, since I too am killing time I will respond to it.
People have hidden things in their special brown place for hundreds, nay thousands, of years. Roman legionnaires were famous for hiding valuables there when captured in war. Jews and other minorities did it in WW2 so they could keep their valued possessions in the camps, and modern day prisoners of all sexualities utilize this method for purposes of smuggling contraband, usually drugs, into prison.
Your assumption that Minsc may be gay because he may have (probably did) hidden Boo in his chocolate hidey-hole illustrates both your homophobia, as well as your general naiveté.
That being said, does it really matter? Whether Minsc is gay or not, he’s the most bad-ass, slightly daft, hamster-loving, Greatsword swinging, seven foot tall Ranger (I haven’t played in a VERY long time, but if memory serves me, he WAS a Ranger…) around.
