The picture I posted was Icelandic svið. I don't know what their stance on real potatoes is, but it looks like a school dinner!

I use the term "school dinner" in its English sense i.e a form of culinary punishment administered to children for the crime of being young.

@Anduin "That mash potato looks awful!"

Yeah, the particular ones on the picture looks bad, but it is actually "raspeball", which is potato-based

Potato based? As in, not all potato? A bit like Mr. Potato head is plastic...

Cool name though... May have a Paladin called Raspeball adventurin along the sword coast very soon...

*mumbles where the hell is this thread going it is outta control*

@Moomintroll Oi! British School Dinners may have been normal food, extra baked to remove all traces of goodness and vitamins, specially treated to remove all taste, with special spices added to give extra blandness...

But all was forgiven because of this... Remember this... Aaaah the memories....

    image

Aaah... Pink custard... The most chemically enhanced food group on the planet...

EDIT: Forgot to put that <img src= . . . stuff on my post to show the image... sigh... This is the first picture you get when typing school dinner puddings on google images...

@Moomitroll, when I lived in Iceland half a year they also made their own sort of raspeball.

LMFAO! Hope other Norwegians read that post :D
Raspeball can be translated pretty straighforwardly to Rasped Ball (so maybe a... high pitched voiceset for the paladin would be appropriate?). Raspeball is also called Komle in some places in Norway.

Raspeball is made from potatoes and different types of flour. Pic of proper looking raspeball and (Norwegian) recipie can be found here: http://krydder.org/2009/03/raspeballer-komle/

Omg !! We got a Norwegian on the board !!! RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN !!!
  • AnduinAnduin Member Posts: 5,745
@Aristillius You are a mega source of names!

Komle, to me sounds like a very nice half-orc lady who just needs a cuddle...

That her name originates from a potatoe and flour based recipe just adds to her charm...

Looking back on my own post... Does the custard look like it has been photo shopped on?

No worries @lordkim, I'm quarter Danish so I wont eat you.
  • AnduinAnduin Member Posts: 5,745
@Lordkim What kind of food is your name based on?
  • lordkimlordkim Member Posts: 1,063
@Aristillius, ohh then i will worry less :P
@Anduin, what dude ?? My life is based on redwine and danish beers ;)

Im guessing... Perhaps cookies? Lord pies? Or simply beer.

Edit: Ah, ninja'd, seems my guess was not too far off tho.

    @Anduin
My lasting memory of school dinner is that one day the dinner ladies cataclysmically introduced some kind of orange cauliflower cheese, it was like the riot scene from Spartacus. I remain distrustful of Red Leicester to this day, though I do now love cauliflower cheese.

Seeing all these scandinavian delicacies makes me see my childhood pickyness for the pathetic characteristic it was.

Unfortunately I have to work that day. That still won't stop me from essentially spending 8 hours theory-crafting, creating backstory for, and rerolling my character.

I spend a lot of time in Edinburgh and I worked on the Isle of Skye for two months and the food in both places was excellent. Fresh, local produce.

I work 9-5, but when I get home I will be "working" on the computer, or that's what my wife will hear at least.

Hopefully get some "alone time" in the basement for a majority of the night. Kids will probably say otherwise.

It still has an eye!!!!! OMG!

The eye is the best part!
And you rarly eat the brain as much, it tastes mostly like (any other part of) sheep =)

@Anduin "That mash potato looks awful!"

Yeah, the particular ones on the picture looks bad, but it is actually "raspeball", which is potato-based, tastes awesome usually we have them with sausage (made from sheep) and bacon. The ones on the picture doesnt actually look home-made. An aquired taste i might add...

And Ill probably make lasagne on the release day =)
Why oh why would you eat an eye!?
When you bite it, does it explode in your mouth like a grape?
    *shudders*

@Kristie83 hehe, naw, it has a kind of mussel consistency the times Ive tried it. And I dont *really* think it is the best part, but the people who love smalahove always says so (part of the gimmick I guess).

Tastes okey - if you dont think too much about the eye part ;)

I don't think I could get past that...

So do random fights break out over this whole eye thing? I'm assuming there are two, but like at a party are people getting into brawls over it? :D

Haha :D *imagines a fight over a dead sheep's eye* probably a fight to the death in hardcore smalahove circles?
I guess if you are a guest, or if it is your first time you are awarded the eye =)

To be fair from a health standpoint so long as its properly prepared its probably better for you than eating cow liver (I'm just using this as an example of something some of us eat in North America). I can't say I've ever tried it though lol.

Darn...now I have a craving for liver and onions... mmmmm.

Yeah, I really wasn't thinking about how healthy it may or may not be, I'll eat my veggies if I want to be healthy, lol! :P Now you made me want liver and onions...Everyone thinks I'm weird because I like it. Even as a kid, I often ordered it in restaurants...

That would be the same as 8pm in London, England or -7 GMT.
