[HOW TO] Install mods on iOS devices (NO Jailbreak)

    @argent77 I ran your utility with option 7 Override files only and I got this output:

    Now if I had chosen instead All game files it copies, converts and compresses every PVRTC file it can find in any mod and puts them into my override folder. So my question is... did this install actually do anything, and if not do I need to convert every single PVRTC file in the game directory? I am going to move this load order over and see if it works before doing a full convert.

    This is my load order, I am just playing through BG:EE for now. I have BG2:EE installed, but want to finish this one before I go find all the mods for the next game.

    That's alright if there are no matching PVRZ files in the override folder. Only very few mods install PVRZ files that have to be converted for iOS.

    However, NTotSC appears to biff its own content (see data/NTotSC.bif), which complicates the matter. Not only does the converter ignore biffed content (unless "All game files" is selected), it is also much more difficult to transfer biff archives to iOS. You would have to import "data/NTotSC.bif" as well as update the chitin.key on iOS to reference NTotSC.bif content. I don't think there is an easy way to solve it short of modifying the installation script of NTotSC.

    Yeah, just played up to Ulgoths Beard and got an insta crash when I tried to get to the Northern Coast. If I do have it use All Game Files, and import my data folder, how do I update the chitin.key to reference NTotSC? Do I need to run the converter after pulling in NTosTC's files but before running the actual install? If I just import the data and chitin.key are they already modified by the NTosTC install? I'll poke around with this a little bit, but am not sure on how to update chitin.key to reflect the NTotSC.bif. Is it a simple process?

    Dealing with biff archives and converting PVRZ files are two separate issues. PVRZ file conversion can be done with the "All game files" option, but from what I've seen this isn't really needed for NTotSC.

    I don't know if there is a way to transfer biffed content to iOS. Handling biff files is somewhat complicated even for modders. You could ask the author of NTotSC to remove biff creation from their mod. Biffing isn't really needed for EE games anyway.

    So... I was able to import my data folder, but the chitin.key caused the game to crash on start. I tried to zip, than rename to chitin.bg1data. I am pretty sure that just created a folder called chitin with chitin.key inside of it. So I than tried chitin.key.bg1data and had the same crash, probably also created a folder called chitin.key with the chitin.key inside of it. I really don't want to jailbreak my IPad but it is looking like I may have to so I can see what is going on in there. Although if we can just have the mod authors get rid of biffing than you may want to reach out to @jastey and @Red_Carnelian since I am using their DSotSC and NSotSC mods:

    In other news my load order is working very well except for the quickstride from Might and Guile isn't playing nice with Monastic Orders... probably because it is looking for monks when they are now rogues. Also Faith and Powers sphere system with Monastic Orders multiclass monk/priest isn't able to find any eligible gods to choose from. I saw that there are some thief/cleric combinations so I am not really sure why its not seeing them. May be the multiclass order thief/cleric vs cleric/thief. What do you think @subtledoctor ?

    Also, I toyed with adding your conversion utility to the mod itself - it could convert the PVRZ files on the fly at install-time with a little conditional check whether it is going into an iOS game.

    Don't think this is a good idea, as it would increase mods by additional 20 MB. Download size still matters for some people. It should be enough to run the conversion once at the end of mod installation (provided all files are present in the override folder).

    Removing the biffing part from mods like NTotSC, or making it optional, would be a more reasonable solution for everyone.

    Using chitin.key from your desktop game won't work. This file references game resources within biff archives (using relative paths and file offsets). I'm certain that biff file configuration of mobile games differ from desktop games. You would have to update the chitin.key on your iOS device.

    I didn't touch the biffing in NTotSC because I'm not really firm with it.
    If I remove biffing, I guess I'd need to copy all the area files to the override instead to NTotSC/biff?

    EDIT: Due to handling reasons, this means I would remove biffing for BG:EE and EET but leave it as standard for BGT.

    Keep in mind that Divine Remix has some known bugs:
    • the component "Install Nightcloak of Shar Kit for Viconia" doesn't not work as intended.
    • Some Ranger kits are missing their special abilities -> have a look at this post for a workaround.
    • Right after installing Divine Remix, you may want to install this hotfix -> it contains additional fixes to some other kits.

    @argent77 I don't actually own the desktop version, I have actually been using the Baldur's Gate 2.4.71.ipa from my itunes folder for everything. I unpack it, mod it, install the original .ipa onto my ipad and than copy over the modded override, lang, and worldmap folders, so I really don't see how the chitin.key is any different on the ipad, unless the mods I am installing are making changes to the chitin.key file. Although if NTotSC is biffing files than I assume its updating the chitin.key file to reflect those changes.

    Ok, got some stuff going this weekend but I am going to try and solve this chitin.key import. I was certainly able to import the data file without bg crashing, so its just the chitin.key to figure out. I'll let you guys know if I can get anything to work.

    Edit: Imported Chitin.key and data directory without crash, story moding up to new content to see if it still crashes... fingers crossed.

    Still crashed, it is more than likely not seeing the chitin.key when I imported it as chitin.key.bg1data without zipping it.

    Newest version works. I installed DSOTCBGEE, than NTOTSC and ran A7 texture converter and it all works now. New char went straight to Ulgoths and spoke to Yness for the quest. Cleared field of the Dead and did a little exploring of the Northern Wood and Wood of the Dead with no issues. Went to the Northern Coast and was able to explore the fisherman village and the fire salamander areas no problem. When I follow the path up towards Olivia the druid it would consistently crash. I rested than walked up the trail and it did not crash so there may be a random encounter issue causing the crash. @Luke93 @subtledoctor @jastey @argent77 congratulations new areas are now available on IPad because of your hard work. Thank you.

    @jastey The same crash occurred in the northern woods at between hours 12 and 3 when I entered at the bottom left corner of the map. When I reloaded and traveled back there I was able to explore the whole map. So it has to be something that is a random percent thing.

    The uninstall and reinstall of Monastic orders was from me applying @subtledoctor 's faith and powers compatibility code to the cleric/broken one monk kit, I gave it the spheres of an Acolyte of Ilmater, so it should be an interesting playthrough.

    So SoD is out, and its a stand alone game.

    2) if I wanna use the items from Thalantyr item upgrade, I should install that as well in SoD,
    3) and how about SCS? My install on Bg1 didnt work, so I expect that the wrong version was used.

    I guess the safest way is to await the 2.5 patches, await the updates on the said mods, and install? That way the version of the game is the same?

    1. you first need to download the .ipa file from iTunes.
    2. Rename that .ipa extension to .zip, and then unzip the app. You will have a folder with the app inside it. You can get to the game folder (where chitin.key is) and from there install weidu mods normally (it's always the same procedure....)

    1. CD tweaks is compatible with SoD.
    2. I'm not sure about this.... I think it is sufficient to copy the items added by the mod into the override folder of SoD....

    Hey guys can anyone help me with this? I have the mods and everything set up but I don’t know how to get the mods on the iPad. Do I only use the override folder. Do I use the weidu installer ever. Some mods don’t have an override folder. Can you maybe show me an example of your directories so I understand.......

    To be more clear most guides for weidu are for OS X I’m not sure how to use it for iPad. Ie when to launch the setup files for each mod etc etc. it says that the mods come with weidu I really am just lost on this part.

    Hey man thank you so much for the response. I guess my question is where do I place the Weidu installer in the game file. I don’t have a resources file on my IOs version. I just need to know how to get the ball rolling and I think I understand the rest.

    Whenever I use your easy weidu installer says it needs to be in the game folder but when I put it in that folder it still says that.
